I believe that GRTA was taping into Purgatory. That’s what the elevator was traveling through. The sister wasn’t a simulation built from her brain but it was her sister. Even the dad says we don’t know how it works and asked how she was.

'The sister wasn’t a simulation built from her brain but it was her sister' that's really interesting! I just assumed it was a hallucination or simulation I hadn't considered it was actually her real spirit

Really like this theory. What are the reasons that you belive this is purgatory?
@MsJeanneMarie
@MsJeanneMarie 6 лет назад
That's an exciting and probable theory!
@Ston3dNinja13

She says, to the computer Gertie, aren’t you in control of this place and she replies not entirely. So maybe she made a purgatory like place or she is actually taping into purgatory and manipulating it to her will. An AI is god like so that maybe it can tap into the unseen world around us in unexpected ways. So between that, the sister acting like she was truly there and not just a replica, and the elevator scene where it shows the room of blood flowing up and that guy taking care of those animals could be a type of hell for them. Those are my points that made me think of purgatory when I watched it. And lastly I also like to think during the A and B trials she was putting them into alternative realities that exist where the people are who they are, truly.
@Ston3dNinja13
@Ston3dNinja13 6 лет назад
Jayson With a Y Gertie does leave with the sister almost like an Angel would be there to take her to heaven. Does the elevator go up when it closed?? Who’s to say an AI couldn’t eventually do Angel or God like things? That is the point of the crescendo of technology where humans become like robots and robots like humans. And at that point we will be able to manifest our thoughts into reality in unperceived ways.

The first word that comes to my mind after watching this whole thing is connection, not acceptance
@Anascissors
@Anascissors 5 лет назад
I think both would be equally true for the series. It was connection to me too, but now i' ve heard acceptance and it makes sense the same.

Actually his mother never smothered him. In fact exact opposite. His mother didnt love in her heart, so he wanted to search for love in the mind.

This is why I love this channel! I waited to watch this because I wanted to finish Maniac before I saw your review. And there are always things you bring to light that I missed or you have a very unique perspective that I love. I have BPD so watching someone go through the ABC pills and seeing how it manifested and how it affects their lives was really big for me. And the fact that even though they aren't cured at the end they can still live fulfilling worthful lives. And I feel for Owen too, sometimes i don't know if I can trust my memory or my ideas and people use that to edge their ideas into my head and get me to trust them over myself. And I like that it was open ended whether his reality was more valuable than others. And sometimes it is sometimes it's not. But it's important to even know that there isn't just 1 and you have options. Wow good review on this one can't wait for the next

Honestly, I saw this to be more about the hedgehog's dilemma. You see, during cold seasons, the hedgehog is freezing and so it Desires the body heat of other hedgehogs. Unforunatetly, its fatal quills prevent it from physically acting out the desire of connection. Owen has the ability to sense and perceive the world in unusual ways (schizophrenia) but he feels incredibly alone and "invisible" because he has had yet to meet someone with the capacity to truly listen to or understand him. Suddenly one day this woman he's seen in his personalized ads is in the same place as him and so he clings on to the desire of her warmth and how it's the universe's "pattern". Yes, they commence with a rocky start, but she ends up being the only mf he ever really fucked with and they drive to Salt Lake City together the end right? Well, no Before that, Owen checked himself into a mental institution bc he was too afraid of his delusional rejection. Someone finally meant something to him. She understood this mf. He loved her too much that he kept the distance bc he couldn't decipher the accepted reality from his own and he didn't want to get quillpaled. As well all know, however, his true soulmate jailbroke him from the hospital.

Reminded me a little of Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless mind, mixed with The Graduate. Its fascinating, funny but also strange. I LOVED the ending, but its not for everyone. The show definitely drags in the middle, and the hallucinations have a narrative lullness that will bore some audiences. Still, a fantastic show and its something fresh and different :)

I definitely got Eternal Sunshine vibes (especially with the scientists administering the procedure to be very bumbling and human and frail vs. evil geniuses I forgot to mention that in my review)

I like to think that annie and owen found help in connecting with each other. The beginning even said that we all want connections, despite the chaos of the universe.

Love the show and insightful review. Please pardon my few corrections. I think the tall about the Gnostic gospels is something his character would have said, so it's fine, and it makes his point, but it isn't actually literally true. Nicea disagree not vote on the bible. That's not what it was about. We have records of what Nicea was about and that wasn't it. The New Testament cannon was have now was established pretty early on. Different takes on the cannon excluded different books we have now, like James, but included the book of jubilees which we don't, but isn't at all gnostic or a gospel. But most takes on the cannon are nearly identical to wgat we now have. Thomas, Judas, Mary, none of these were ever accepted by a major connected church as cannon in the first 2 centuries. The gnostics didn't operate as part of the church, and debated with the church over whether Jesus was physically real, whether it's ok to have sex, and other very weird fringy topics that differ sharply with most of scripture and judeochristian tradition. It's generally agreed upon by most scholars on the subject that the "gospels" from the gnostic scriptures, mostly from Egypt, were second and third century creations that don't sound like 1st century Jewish writings, but they fit the genre of "pseudepigrapha", texts writen under the pen names of older famous people for prestige, but not actually written by them. A non-gnostic example is Enoch 1, another is the book of Abraham. But a gnostic example is Enoch 2, written much later and super trippy, and Judas. Thomas might be legit, but isn't a gospel. The early church leaders knew about it but didn't feel it was authoritative scripture as it kind of rambles, isn't about the gospel and it might not have even been a finished work, it's pretty short. The gnostic love it though as it seems to have wording that implies their more pantheistic acetic view of spirituality. It fits the show so it's cool. But it's good to know the truth too.

Great review. I like your point about the technology and how it’s portrayed making us think more about the technology that we have available to and openly accept within our society. Very interesting!

I believe that Annie and Owen are soul mates and that's why/how they always found one another and experienced 100's of lifetimes together, most often as life-long companions i.e. Husband and wife. I love it so much!❤️ There are so many references both to the narrative itself as well as nods to other shows/movies and works of art. This show was brilliant and refreshing. Perfection in acting, cinematography, atmosphere, writing and much more- and I cannot wait to watch it again (super high replay value) and see all the references and clues left by the writers and directors. Look for the nod to True Detective in the last episode. 😉❤️

G Master Did you binge the whole series too? I'd love to know your thoughts as most of my friends aren't into the same stuff as me. What silver thing? There's so much going on that I may have missed something. I'm sure I missed a lot, actually! The soulmate theory just came about bc I'm a hopeless romantic even though I can't stand roms and rom coms or a any similar genre in any medium.

G Master I enjoyed all the episodes but I did notice how some were better than others; with an episode or two kinda getting you from here to there and are required for the story telling but not as much fun as some of the more odd-ball, beautifully whacky or action driven scenes. I meant to include this in my previous comment. Sorry bout dat, friend! ❤️

G Master I wanna hear all your theories! Film as a medium in general (and all forms of storytelling) fascinates me and I love any time that I get to learn new perspectives and differing opinions. I'm glad you're sharing yours with me! I'm sorry I'm just now responding- been one of those days. I'm responding as I read, dear one. Can't wait to continue our conversation. ❤️

G Master I think you make some fine points- and your English is great. I find it incredibly sophisticated when someone speaks several languages; it's quite impressive! That movie you speak of... It seems so familiar to me (but I often have dreams of this nature) and I love the concept so I'm going to go on a search for it. Hopefully I'll find it by the time you and I get back on here tomorrow. Where are you from and where do you live now if you don't mind my asking? I'm from the USA in the state of Alabama (yeah yeah I know it gets a bad rap and sometimes for good reason lol but I promise there are some cool people down here like me hahaha; you just gotta know where to find them) and I live there now but want to move out west sometime soon. I've traveled all over the United States and the world as well before I got sick and was in a coma. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w5sIjpNKGc4.html
