Licypriya Kangujam, 12, is one of the youngest climate activists globally. She is from Manipur. On December 11, she had stormed on to the stage of UN Climate Conference (COP28) in Dubai with a poster reading " End fossil fuel, save our planet and our future". For Manipur, she is now the new face of revolt. Licypriya claims she had also raised the issue of Manipur on UN platform and alleges that in Dubai she had tried approaching PM Narendra Modi to highlight the situation of her homeland and ask questions but she was stopped. "PM Modi ignored me, I kept calling him. His security blocked me. My PM should listen to a 12 year old girl. He turned his face away from me", she says. Disturbed with the developments back home in Manipur, Licypriya says she is committed to fight and raise the issue of Manipur in every platform possible for the sake of the future of the children of this land. She also hopes she will be able to go to Churachandpur someday and meet the young victims of violence in that part of the state.
