Hundreds of locals in Churachandpur took to the streets in protest, this time against the brutal killing of a youth identified as David Thiek at Langza village earlier in the week. The rally was held amid the army's efforts to dismantle village defence bunkers set up by locals in different parts of the state.
The rally, led from the front by village defence volunteers, many of whom turned up in black fatigues and bullet-proof vests, concluded at the Wall of Remembrance. According to reports, no less than 2,000 village defence volunteers participated in the rally.
Locals once again paid their tributes to the symbolic coffins laid down to commemorate those who have lost their lives.
The protesters also sang solemn songs in memory of the deceased.
Slogans were also raised by protesters who sought the Central government's intervention in resolving the deadly conflict.
