Juan Pablo Quiñonez spent 78 days alone in the wilderness to win half a million dollars as the last person standing on the game show “Alone.” As Mark Neufeld reports, the money will help Quiñonez build a new homestead with his fiancé.
He was incredibly smart and strategic the entire time. So happy he won. He deserved it for preparing and executing so well. The top 3 were all so good. 👏👏👏
I just finished this series last night. I think Mr. Quinonez had an edge on this competition due to his earlier 6 month off-the-grid trek with partner Jennifer. Being the first on Alone to forego and maintain a fire in camp and then "solve" his food problem by fasting were leaps of faith that came from experience whereas I'm willing to bet most viewers (like me) thought he was making big mistakes. And kudos to Jennifer Ford for being the emotional inspiration that was equally critical. We need more like these two people. It was heartbreaking to see Karie tap out but she's certainly a survivor whose lessons and resilience won't be lost on anyone who watched.
So happy he won. I was rooting for him since he started talking about drinking olive oil daily and when he made his chimney out of cans. I knew he had some tricks up his sleeve but i didn’t know how many and that he basically has the stoic philosophy. Was happy like i won when he won. And to top it off, in his own words he’s the “first non-white to win.”
he also is the only contestant in season 9 to pick a bow saw, a 30 inch collapsible one. Much more energy efficient even than the japanese pullsaws that seem popular to take on the show, especially for firewood.
Congrats Juan Pablo. I loved following you on this challenge. Love your unique approach including to pause eating and fires when it made sense and to drink unheated water. So proud of you! Thanks for all the interviews you've done with Woniya and others. Wishing you all the best moving forward. 💗
I enjoyed watching this show but most of the contestants in the show with their lack of sense of urgency and logics is what annoys me. For example, most contestants in the show claimed to be a self sufficient survivalist who's had a harsh life and will use this opportunity to its fullest.....but after they get drop off, most of them didn't start to hunt until 5-8 days after. All they did is build a shelter and sat around their camp waiting for animals to come to them..and their idea of food is forage for berries. You're not gonna last long mostly sitting around the camp fire and forage for berries and sea weeds. I'm not a survivalist and even I know: #1 - find a place suitable for shelter and build shelter. #2 - scope the area for food. #3 : hunt/fish. #4 - don't just get 1 fish or 1 squirrel for one meal. Try to hunt as many food sources as possible as means for storing so you may be able to have food to last for a long time. Most of these contestants only accomplished step 1 and 2. And they sat by their campfire complaining about being hungry? The few contestants that lasted the longest or ended up winning the prize are the ones that actually followed step1 to step4.
@@justbe1451 Im just glad that annoying Karie Lee didn't win. I had to skip every scene she was in cause of all the cringe. I would have found the show much more entertaining if one of the contestants tried to summon Satan on Devils night to propel them to victory.
You've got some growing up to do. Canada is blessed to have a man like Juan win alone. He will be a asset to his community and his wife. Best wishes Juan.
