On January 16, 1913, the world-renowned mathematician G. H. Hardy received nine spectacular pages of mathematical theorems from an unknown, self-taught Indian student named Srinivasa Ramanujan.
“It was scarcely possible to believe,” said Hardy. “They must be true because, if they were not true, no one would have the imagination to invent them.”
Where does mathematical genius originate and what does it tell us about the human mind? Join us for “The Infinite Mind: Exploring Mathematical Genius,” as we explore these and related themes with mathematicians Manjul Bhargava and Steven Strogatz, together with Matt Brown, director of The Man Who Knew Infinity, a new film about Ramanujan to be released in April, starring Jeremy Irons and Dev Patel.

Quantum Mechanics is just the next logical step or at least one of the logical progressive steps. Because particle interconnectedness has multiple functions. 1. Increasing the puzzlement effect - Seen from design theory 2. New challenge for the gamer and gamifier. 3. Exciting new adventure to manipulate a new law or mechanic 4. A whole new space to exploit Qualia information codes with the goal to build new exciting mixture of experiences, life, stories, narratologies, epic adventures, human experiences and so on. 5. Conquering this universe. Or in Vedic knowledge, reconquering what already has been conquered but in a new light, finding with it golden nuggets of art of math that became art, or art that became mathematic, re-engineer universe. Find new ways to complexify new VR's for the next generation of universes. 6. Quantum Mechanics like any other new but tougher to solve puzzle/problem/challenge/opportunity is part of evolution or exciting new ways to cosmic orgasms.

Ramanujan is a simple story. The Brahmins in India are known to have been involved in maths, astronomy, learning, etc. since time immemorial. Example the Aryan AryaBhatta. Al-Biruni tells us that during his period Maths in India was top class. There is no white, brown, red, black, yellow, etc. race. We have the Aryans (Indo-Europeans), Semites, Turks, Negroid, Mongols, etc. The color changes due to climate. Southern Europeans Aryans, are dark like southern Iranians. Ramanujan by race was a pure Aryan since he was a Brahmin. This is the plain truth.

This interviewer is horrendous. She's so defensive of how bad she is it genuinely takes away from the interview. She gets things wrong CONSTANTLY, and has no ability to play off the answers she's getting from the people she is interviewing. Likewise, she denigrates the people she is interviewing rather than acknowledge when they correct her. IF she would actually listen to the answers she's being given this would have been such a better interview.

Universal consciousness, intelligent design and divine purpose are very difficult for most to understand. Science of the Standard Model shows how fine tuning the parameter space producing self-organizing property of matter, delivering life and consciousness, with perfection and with probability one, eliminating randomness and chance, like winning a series of lotteries (20-30) in a row, prolonging and protecting a species like us to evolve, implies universal consciousness and divine purpose, complimenting us with consciousness and intelligence enabling us to discover science/mathematics. Namagiri is Vishnu's consort enables Ramanujan (in his sleep) to acquire knowledge of mathematics used in string theory hundred years later, is after all, not surprising. Vishnu:Who is the cause of the evolution of the world (universe) and is the conjoined essence and object of meditative wisdom (third eye) and active virtue (karma). Universal consciousness has infused mathematical insight in many mathematicians, like Archimedes, Euclid, Newton, Euler, Riemann, Einstein, Wiles etc. What's special about Ramanujan is he practiced meditation (Vaishnav yoga) from childhood and was empowered to read 'god's mind'. If all students are given the right to meditate and if 1% achieve the level of his creativity, then we can build heaven on earth.

The irony is india doesn't produce these geniuses. In fact the indian school system is damaging the talent of potential geniuses, because of the robotic teaching in all subjects, not just in math. Thats a problem worldwide but its especially heavy in countrys like china and india with huge populations. Manjul Bhargava mentioned it all the time, I dont get it why people can be still proud of their country with all these critics from great minds, its like they want to be oblivious.

Why, in the film, was Ramanujan made to sit through an undergraduate course when it is not mentioned in the book. Why did he have to attend a course on Maxwell's equations?. The scene is only a few seconds but any maths graduate of my generation (I graduated 1969) would have recognised the symbols. I am sure he would also have found a way to incorporate the mathematics into his own work but there does not seem to be any evidence of this. However, I have to say I am being rather pedantic since I very much enjoyed the film. Professor Bhargava is quite critical of maths education. I feel that as well as the emphasis on rote learning, another one of the failures of most mathematics education at every level is the lack of context. In particular who devised the theorems we are taught, how and why? Did they have reservations? For example, why did Cantor go mad? How many undergraduates have heard that story? In this context, I find the youtube site is providing a useful resource for the curious student.

Is there any material available to know about this? I am reviewing my calculus course and came to know about Georg Cantor. To my utter dismay, I have never heard about Cantor or Abel. Prof Bhagava is not far from truth when he criticised the modern education system. The system needs to be completely overhauled, ASAP.

Ramanujan had Goddess speak through him- the Divine mother of Intuition - its a difficult concept for a Westerner to grasp but for us in India- intelligence ends where intuition begins. And that intuition controls the intelligence in us , just like the intelligence controls the mind in us and the mind controls the physical in us. It's just that we haven't yet been able to pole vault ourselves beyond from just being intelligent. Ans we don't accept anything beyond that barrier. Unfortunate.

there is only one correct way to say the name ramanujan. while it's not difficult to do so, it can be somewhat difficult to represent its pronunciation unambiguously in english script. not surprisingly, tamil has its own script, as does nearly every south indian language; that script is radically different from that of english. every tamil sound cannot be represented perfectly in english script. for a non-tamilian to pronounce the name ramanujan correctly, s/he might listen to a tamilian say it, and become familiar with it. here, the problem arises mainly because there is no way to differentiate between *long* and *short* vowel sounds in english script as there is in tamil script. if one codes the long 'a' as 'A' (as in the words 'park' and 'far,' the short 'a' as 'a' (without change, as in 'arise' and 'abet'), and the short 'u' as 'u' (without change, as in 'put'), a proper coding of ramanujan's name in english writing would be: rAmAnujan. while incorrect pronunciation can be jarring, tamilians and other indians should take heart; according to my informal observations over many years, the frequency of mispronunciation of non-western names in the u.s. appears to be negatively correlated with the per-capita gdp of the country of origin of the name.

All is mind. There is nothing but mind. The mind is infinite, creative and eternal. The mind never shuts off, even in sleep and at death. You can not experience non-existence. Try it. Imagine it, if you will. You will still exist while you perform this experiment. You are eternal always, but you experience yourself through the finite which is neither a mirror nor a projection, by the way. The finite is a boundary. A hard fast boundary. The finite is a subset within the infinite in which contrast and choice create boundaries. You do not stuff the infinite into the finite. The finite is an experience inside of the mind. The eternal at play. Playing with contrast by placing boundaries and applying meanings. You can even create a game inside of your mind in which you imagine that you are outside of your mind. You then experience life happening to you. Things which are separate from you. Meaning is thrust upon you. You believe that you have fallen and you must pay a karmic debt. That you are a soul, or perhaps a spirit which is forced to learn lessons and grow through struggle. You can even believe that you are unworthy. Yet, you have enormous value. You possess a certificate of authentication, as all things of value do as well. Your unique thumbprint and DNA sequence is your certificate of authenticity. You are a one of a kind and priceless. Your natural authentic self. Feel that. All that is experienced is imagined from care. You were made from care. And it is care which holds you in focus for the purpose of experiencing this timebound meaningful experience in a finite world inside of your mind. If you don't mind then it don't matter. But if you care, and it matters much to you, then it will become an experience in matter. It is this care that is the force that shapes your world. If you care. If someone cares for you. If you want to experience peace, create a boundary for peace inside your infinite mind, give it the meaning of peace, give it space, allow it to just be. Care about peace. If you want to experience abundance, create a boundary for abundance inside your infinite mind, give it the meaning of abundance, give it space, allow it to just be. Care about abundance. If you want to experience a healthy body, create a boundary for health inside your infinite mind, give it the meaning of vibrant health, give it space, allow it to be. Care about abundance. If you want to experience care, create a boundary for care inside your infinite mind, give it the meaning of great care, give it space, allow it to be

This might be a stupid question but... many of us who have studied science would agree that isaac newton is much more brilliant than all of us, even scientists agree with it. But even a 15-18yr student in this time knows more than newton did, we know all his laws of motion and even extra stuff he didnt/couldnt explain(eg wave nature of light). This is why it is said that IQ increases noticeably each generation... so by this analogy could we also say that people like manjul bhargawa... may indeed due to being 2 generations later to ramanujan is better / more intelligent than him?

there's a difference between inventing the laws of classical mechanics and learning about it...people do the latter while newton did the former...so "even a 15-18yr student in this time knows more than newton did, we know all his laws of motion and even extra stuff he didnt/couldnt explain" is a BS statement

@Ultimate Game not really, mathematics(therefore physics) is an invention. It's how humans perceive and predict nature. A hypothetical alien species may perceive nature some other way. There's no predefined law/rule that u can *discover*.

The silly way the moderator butchers pronunciation of the names of Srinivasa Ramanujan and Manjul Bhargava is quite jarring to note in an otherwise pleasant interaction. I wonder why she didnt spend a mere 5 minutes before the event to just practice how to correctly pronounce the names.

note how Manjul Bhargava makes his appearance @7:13 why do I say that? keep listening ... he then suggests that prime numbers are the atoms of the 'number theory' world. did you know that 137 is a most meaningful coincidence? a synchronicity in fact 137 is the 33rd prime number it is the KEY to merging religion and science i.e. why did the ancients encode 137 meter, 13.7 meter, 137 feet, 137 cm, into significant temples which in fact are markers? and why did science follow and from another POV turn 137/1 upside down and make the number 1/137 mystical?

Archangel Raphael Please do not bring religion here....science is based on rationality and logic backed by experimental or observational evidence..science is self correcting and nothing ever is considered gospel truth that is out of scruitiny.. religion is founded on irrationality, blind faith..

lol lol lol too funny another human who fails to recognize science has become the new religion by building on/stealing the GENIUS of god fearing men. NOTHING gives me more pleasure than using your IGNORANCE to make my point. I shall use what inspired {god?} Newton, Leibnitz, Euler, Kepler, Einstein, and Srinivasa Ramanujan to SLAY your ignorant POV don't be insulted by the word IGNORANT, it means ewe are unaware. EWE means ye end up being a sheeple to science due to your ignorance. GO AHEAD pick your favorite scientist and I will show HOW WRONG YOU ARE about the nonsense YOU promote
