Introduction to the Manjushri Heart Mantra
Bodhisattva Manjushri embodies the ultimate wisdom of Buddhas and bodhisattvas from the ten directions. According to Mahayana scriptures, Manjushri attained Buddhahood long ago, and his blessings for sentient beings are beyond comprehension. Sincerely invoking Manjushri is akin to summoning the collective blessings of all Buddhas and blending them into one's mindstream.
Reciting the Manjushri heart mantra, 'Om A Ra Pa Cha Na Dhih,' constantly awakens our inner wisdom, both spiritually and in the worldly sense. The former enables us to realize the supreme emptiness and the unconditional great compassion; the latter helps us understand the principles of cause and effect and how to interact with others. Furthermore, reciting this mantra can significantly enhance the academic pursuits of children and students at all levels.
His Holiness Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche had a deep connection with Bodhisattva Manjushri from a very young age. When he was born, he immediately uttered the Manjushri mantra 'Om A Ra Pa Cha Na Dhih' as soon as he touched the ground. At age six, he stumbled upon Manjushri's Lion Roar Practice in a pile of stones. Through dedicated practice, he began to experience numerous signs of accomplishment. In 1987, His Holiness led a group of four disciples on a pilgrimage to Wutai Mountain. There, at the sacred site of Bodhisattva Manjushri, he vowed to propagate the sutra and tantra teachings tirelessly. From then on, almost all of his monastic and lay disciples have pledged to recite the Manjushri mantra one hundred million times.
