Hey Chris. This was actually a Sunday game. I went to the elimination final on the Saturday the day before between Canterbury and St George. I do recall channel nine and Ten both covered the Saturday and Sunday finals. During the season that is correct that channel nine did Saturday matches and channel ten did Sundays.That was a great final series.

Channel 10 did the grand final because Ray Warren was more popular with club matches than Darrell Eastlake does state of origin & Kangaroos matches.

Seems like 9 and Ten had the rights in 1983, and seems like they both broadcast the finals series and the GF

They had replay rights. And they covered Saturday afternoon footy.

@Laoma41 In 1982 Channel 10 broadcast the Saturday afternoon match on delay. Channel 7 were in their final year as main rights holders. Channel 10 broadcast the Grand Final on replay while it was shown live on 7. From 1983-1991 Channel 10 had the main rights.

@@normyzee Interesting funny how nine got the rights for Saturday afternoon for just one year, it's interesting the ABC got the rights for live coverage on Saturday afternoon, maybe from the mid 80s when I was interested in footy. I would have thought commercial tv would have got the rights. Perhaps it was for regional audiences as then only one commercial station serving outside of Sydney? Remember those big aerials in Newcastle?
