I own one in S90v. It is delightful to use - a knife that cuts! I am careful opening and closing it as I should be. It is a knife after all. Thanks for reviewing it.

Cool knife. Affordable slicer between Spyderco Paramilitary 2 and an Ontario Rat 2 D2. Tempting

I’ve 2 of these and they’re great! When I just want a simple, tough, legal cutter, this is it! For the UK, this is right on the max size for legal carry and with S90V for fifty quid, what’s not to like? See mine on my channel plus a comparison to the, in many ways similar, SOG Terminus.

I don’t know why I am so attached to this knife, it is totally out of my norm. I think I’m going to have to pick one up.

This knife is as brilliant as its brand name is silly (I mean, Manly, really...). Just received mine, also in desert camo, and I'm blown away. Very pleased indeed.

I did disassemble mine, it was a bear to get back together. One thing you have to be mindful of, not that it will have to be be sharpened much, but as the point area wears down, sliding ones hand from the clip area toward the front of the blade will result in catching your fingertip on the tip of the blade. This could present an issue when drawing the clipped knife out of slacks. I had the same issue with an Arno Bernard knife the cleanly sliced the inner lining of a pair of my good work slacks.

Unfortunately manlyusa isn't selling them any longer. Looks like they have them on Amazon. Looks like a great little slicer, although my quiet carry Waypoint isn't bad with the thin stock and hollow grind.

Manly knives are great. I wish they had more reviews for their fixed blades,I'm between Manly Drugar,Lionsteel M4 or Benchmade puukko 200,for my next knife. Im closing to the Manly Drugar more.

Does anyone know how this compares to the SOG terminus slip joint? Similar price point and both are legal in the UK. I'm guessing that the 'wasp' wins because of the s90v (The terminus has CTS-BD1)?

Hi, firstly a great vid. I notice in your preview photo the camo looks blackish. Is this simply a filter or have you dyed the scales? It looks good. I’ve just ordered one off the back of your review, thanks.

I hate those five blade stops it takes to open the blade!!! Personally the Spyderco UKPK in CPM S110V is still my favorite modern slip joint ever, and the best modern slip joint ever made in my opinion!!!

@ThomasConnolly
@ThomasConnolly 5 лет назад
@@bp-hx9ts The Spyderco UKPK has much better ergonomics including a full sized finger choil. Also the UKPK is a lot easier to open and close, but at the same time has a much better detent so the blade won't freely close to you while in use!!!

Thomas Connolly this is lighter I believe and it’s way thinner behind the edge they also most likely do a better heat treat
@ThomasConnolly
@ThomasConnolly 5 лет назад
@@bp-hx9ts Actually the Manly Wasp weighs 2.95oz and the Spyderco UKPK only weighs 1.90oz which is a full ounce lighter, also the heat treat on the CPM S110V that's on my UKPK is really good. The UKPK also has the much better wire pocket clip and the overall ergonomics gives you a very comfortable full four finger grip. The Spydie also give your an easy ability to open the UKPK one handed!!!

I was looking at it earlier but saw some reviews online showing the blade can hit the back spring. Is that an issue they fixed?

The back spring issue was fixed in two steps. First they removed material from the spring to get more clearance between it and the blade. That already fixed the problem for most users. You now had to compress the knife willingly by the tip area (more leverage) to get the blade in contact with the spring. A little later they added a stop pin on top of that. You can recognise those Gen3 models by that 3th pin if you look between the liners near the pivot screw.

Finally got one of these. The Wasp is a total disappointment. The fit and finish is awful, even compared to a $15 Case knife. The back is proud of the scales at the butt end and below near the blade. The butt end metal is 1/16" below the scales. There is really no excuse for this. The spring is overly strong. If you use a nail instead of a pinch to open you will break the nail, its that strong. The whole thing reeks of machine oil. It came with crud surrounding the screw holding the pocket clip. The pivot looks like a screw with a washer. (I assume a washer because its not centered around the screw head. The blade is sharp and slicey, and that's about its sole saving grace.
@TheAsgaard83
@TheAsgaard83 5 лет назад
Not a total disappointment for me but I can relate to some extent. Have had 2 already and both came with fit and finish issues. I know it is not expensive for the steel you're getting but it is embarrassing that such knife has worse fit and finish than some Chinese crap. I completely agree about your comparison to a Case. Myself, I own a sodbuster bought for 7 British pounds and this cheap knife looks better and smother than the Wasp. Let me start: My first one - 1st pivot not flushed evenly, the rest of the knife looked good and symmetric though a bit crude inside. The second one...well, pivot screw better but still not entirely perfect, back spring sticking out above scales (not on the entire length), the blade above the spring at the contact point when opened, the contact point itself a bit uneven, a small gap between the blade and the scale on 1 side but on the other no gap at all when opened. What's more, few rough grind marks at the back of the blade close the pivot and the entire inside of the back spring. Interestingly, I broke the tip off on the 2018 model (no stop pin) the first day when trying assemble the knife back. I was pushing the tip into the wooden cutting board while trying to align the hole and the pivot screw (absolutely futile exercise - do the pivot first then add the spring, which is still hard but achievable). Some weird lateral stress at some point? Took so little force that now I realized you can easily damage even super steel if there is just not enough material at the tip. On the positive side - like the looks and handling, perfect centering when closed. Nicley finished scales with good traction. I don't mind the stiff action but it is 2 handed and much slower than UKPK, no comparison. The best thing, however, is that this little thing is scaringly sharp, outperforming all my other knives, even my Spyderco UKPK. Have 4 Benchmades, 2 Spydercos and few others and none of them slices as well as this knife. Maybe, at some point I will send it to Manly for tune up of some cosmetic defects but I at the moment I'm giving it a chance as is due to its slicing capability. It is a keeper.
@Squivels
@Squivels 5 лет назад
The spring is so strong I decided to just cut some material away, the action is now fine (a little weak now perhaps whoops) but under the scales was black gunk and a little rust, happy with it now but eh, if I'd have known the work I'd have to have put in to fix it, I'd have just spent more in the first place.

I think “manly” is just a family name. They’re made in Bulgaria, so I don’t think they were necessarily trying to appeal to English speaking men by calling it Manly.
