Sangeet Samraat Manna Dey's versatility in that he could sing any type of song with "bhaav" (emotion) and of course "sur" (melody) in any Indian language (he sang the Gujarati "Helo" bhajan dedicated to Ramdev Pir) effortlessly made him unique. This is apart from his intense early classical training under many Ustaad singers. All this and his great sense of humor that he got from his "guru" SD Burman. It might be a very long time (perhaps several centuries) before a singer of his caliber will emerge again in India.

আমার বর্তমান বয়স এখন সত্তর বছর কিন্তু কোনদিন মান্না দের গান সামনা সামনি কোন অনুষ্ঠানে শোনার সৌভাগ্য লাভ করতে পারিনি।এই দুঃখ চিরদিন রহে গেল কি আর করা যাবে । এই মহান শিল্পী কে আন্তরিক ভক্তি পূর্ণ প্রণাম জানিয়ে আজকের মতো লেখা থেকে বিদায় নিলাম।
মহান শিল্পী শ্র্রদ্ধেয় মান্নাবাবুর সংগীত পরিবেশন করেছিলেন হাওড়া জেলার শিবপুরে একটি জলসা অনুষ্টানে 1978 সালে। উক্ত অনুষ্ঠানে আমি দর্শক ও শ্রোতা হিসাবে উপস্থিত থাকার কারণে ঐ কিংবদন্তী শিল্পীর সংগীত সুধা শ্রবনে আমার হৃদয় এক অনাবিল ও অনির্বচনীয় আনন্দ লাভে পরিপূর্ণ হয়ে উঠেছিলো। রাত্রি 12 টা- 230 মি: পর্যন্ত রাধাকান্ত বাবুর তবলার বাদ্য ধ্বনি ও মধুর ছন্দ তৎসহ মান্না বাবুর গায়কী- সৌন্দর্যে ও মাধুর্যে অসাধারণ সুর মূর্ছনায় এক অপূর্ব নান্দনিক সুর লোকের অধিবাসী হয়ে ছিলাম। আমার কাছে রাধা কান্ত বাবু ও মান্না বাবুর এই যুগল বন্দী এক স্বর্ণালি ফ্রেমে বন্দী থাকা চিরকালের শ্রেষ্ট ছবি। সেই সব দিন আজ অতীতের গর্ভে বিলীন হয়ে গেছে। অতীত দিনের সেই স্বর্ণালি স্মৃতি আজও স্মৃতির মণি কোঠায় চির উজ্জ্বল হয়ে আছে।
আমার প্রিয় গায়ক ও প্রিয় গীতিকার কে একসাথে দেখে শুধু এটাই মনে হচ্ছে যদি একবার ওদের সামনা সামনি দর্শন করতে পারতাম,ওদের চরণে মাথা স্পর্শ করতে পারতাম,তাহলে নিজেকে ধন্য মনে করতাম।
