Surprisingly, I was on the Mannanan for the return journey to Liverpool this same day. The crossing was extremely rough, plus the ship was late. However we got there in the end. It’s a great ship, very comfy and spacious.
I have been on some horrendous crossings from the 1950s to the present day. The captains of the old steamers would go out in any weather. I have genuinely thought I was going to die on a couple of occasions it was that bad. The Manannan is not built for the most severe sea states in the Irish Sea. Although safe it would have been a bad crossing for the passengers and crew. I would have sat it out back in Liverpool.
