Woooooooow!!!! You just took me out. This is a totally different perspective on Jacob, Leah and Rachel. I've always heard Rachel was THE choice and Leah, along with her father, stole what was Rachel's. HOWEVER!! Rachel was Jacob's choice, but Leah was THE FATHER'S choice (natural and spiritual). In addition, I recall reading that Rachel was not buried with Jacob, but Leah was, but I never put thought into why---the drama, the accusation, conflict. And you are right, there is nothing in scripture that says Leah was drama. She was compliant, submissive, peaceful and obviously, satisfying. Crazy! What a revelation!

Pastor Jerry Flowers said Leah was the promise, and I didn’t get it until this year when the Lord revealed it to!!! I was like WOW!!!

I had brought this message for youth day at my church while back. And I named my topic “Unwanted condition but a severing purpose” Leah had a unwanted condition but she serve her purpose. And this story had free me because I can relate to Leah. This story had help me to get heal and delivered from depression. Awesome job - Pastor Manny

This man is preaching so much truth!!!!! I surrendered to God and he gave me a husband I would've never looked twice at in that way! But I trusted God knew who he designed for me when I asked him to send 'the one' he has for me. I'm in love with a man who's in love with a woman that we're both in love with God first!

Loved the message! Just a little clarification though, Leah wasn't cockeyed or ugly. She was soft/gentle-eyed and lovely but Rachel was very beautiful.

Thank you LORD for using YOUR MAN OF GOD to show me “ME” and help me understand that there are seeds that I’ve sown to contribute to the state of my marriage. Shalom men of God (Pastors Robert Madu and Manny Arango) and many blessings to you all, to your beautiful wives and families (personal/ministry). I do come to you both in peace and in regard to the teaching of Genesis 29, starting with verse 17. No disrespect in any way to any of you, but this is one of the most misinterpreted verses of scripture along with a few others (verse 17). It is easy for us to teach what has been passed down unto us through the preaching and teaching of others, but it is vital and important for us to be careful with that method of movement. Because we can mislead people into embracing a form of thinking that is built to function around a religious mindset and one that supports a biased and partial insight on how we view the value of people who are created in the image of The LORD God. When The LORD describes any one in His kingdom through their physicality, He does so with an intimate language. The LORD described the beauty of Leah through the language and build of her eyes. The LORD is not confined to one level of language when speaking about the beauty in His own people. Verse 17 says that Leah was "tender eyed" not unattractive or ugly. To be tender eyed means to have eyes that are loving, caring, intimate, and delicate. This has nothing to do with a person having eyes that are lazy or misaligned. Leah was a very affectionate woman and it was visible in her eyes. Her eyes spoke of how she was a gentle and caring woman. She was compassionate and sensitive. Jacob did not pay attention to that because he was more in tune with the physical and external build of the woman. He was into Rachel because of her external beauty, not her internal beauty. And scripture states that The LORD saw that Leah was hated, which moved Him to open her womb. The LORD saw the biased behavior that was shown to Leah. Jacob did not see that the internal make up of the woman is much more important than the external. There is nothing wrong with a man wanting a woman who is beautiful. But the internal beauty will always outlast the external. Leah's eyes will still speak of the beauty of God's intimate love when Rachel's external beauty begins to fade. I bring an olive branch unto you men of The Most High God. I did not come here to offend you. But we do need to help each other when it comes to the interpretation of the scriptures. We can miss out on a lot of valid and life changing revelation when we do not help each other see God's beautiful breath (His Word) for what it truly is. Shalom unto you all and have a beautiful and peaceful week.

Thank you for this word! Many are stuck in criticism on missing the scripture but are you missing the message? Of course we should always go back to the word for ourselves, but what you take from the word one time you read it to what it will speak to you a second or third time can change. Gods word is always speaking always moving. This message just opened my eyes to a different perspective. I always viewed the story of Leah and Rachael from what the church has always preached and I believe God is showing us more than the traditional religious views that sometimes we need to break free from just like the Pharisees. In the end discernment and relationships with God is key to knowing what is for you to take out of this message and what is His truth. You may not agree with all he said or how he preached it but there definitely still is something to take from this message. Well I know for me God spoke and hit some points that I needed to acknowledge for myself.

Pastor Manny and Social Dallas y'all have guts! This message was controversial and disruptive (in a good way) because it knocked against years of religious indoctrination to see and think about this story in a particular way; and while true, there is the other side that really I have NEVER heard anyone preach about. Pastor Manny's discourse was practical, real and true. Thanks for this thought provoking perspective....I'll have to listen again and chew on this some more 😊

Just jumping in with some extra bible facts: Rachel didn't steal the idols because she wanted to worship them. (only). In that area idols were the same as a will, meaning when Laban passed away she could go and claim everything as she had the will and rights to his property. (This is why Laban was so upset). Also - it showed that Rachel placed more confidence in Her natural father and not so much in the God of Jacob. (meaning she just wanted a backup plan).

One more intimate thing if it's ok. If there are those who are struggling to believe the truth about Leah. We have to remember that in scripture it also states how The LORD is not partial to others (Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11). And for Him to shame or describe the physical appearance of Leah in an undesirable way would be a demonstration of showing partiality; which would make The LORD a hypocrite in His stature when we know He is not a hypocrite. But we can become hypocrites if not careful. To shame the appearance of Leah would be a demonstration of The LORD giving an "okay" for people to show biased behavior towards others. He is love, which means that such behavior would go against His character and holiness, which also means it goes against our design and kingdom build as well. Amen 🙏

It's really important to preach or teach from the Bible what theological scholars have already agreed on. As boring as it may be , the privilege of carrying the Word to the people is the most serious of all the callings and one has to be very disciplined and careful about it. Better to say less than to say more than the text really supports.

Overall, the message is very good. We need to understand that Destiny is only used once in scripture (Isaiah 65:11) and it isn't spoken of well. In fact, those who follow Destiny (Is 65:12-14... he's talking to God's people here) will be brought down. Too often, we turn the spotlight off of God and onto our selves... what are the specific plans He created for us, our purpose and destiny. Purpose is used the same as destiny. If it's studied out, it means "Welfare, well-being, etc." rather than some prestigious assignment. Our spotlights should be on Him and only Him. We serve His purposes, for His good pleasure (Is 53;10, Phil 2:13). And that plan can change from day to day. This 'plan,' a destiny, a purpose, is not one mapped out for us individually because that would mean we have no free will, and we do. And, let me tell you, those who do have a true calling will tell you it is not fun. It's a hard, hard, walk. The Moses', Daniels, and Paul's, will tell you it's not about the walk here on earth, a walk they often despaired in because it was so difficult, it's all about the goal of honoring our God, our Jesus, here on earth so that we are able to honor Him there in eternity.

I'm not sure making Rachel look bad and calling her names is what the Bible truly says about her....but I guess that's this Pastor's interpretation of the text.

“And he charged them, and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people: bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a buryingplace. There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife; and there I buried Leah.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭49‬:‭29‬-‭31‬ ‭KJV‬‬ With all due respect, this scripture would suggest that Jacob simply requested to be buried at the gravesite that he purchased for his family. And Genesis 35:1 and the actual verses where Rachel died Genesis 35:16-19 shows that Jacob was in the middle of traveling when Rachel died which would suggest that is why she was not buried in the family tomb.

I think that Jacob was deceived with Leah because he and his mother stole Esau's first born right. And Leah was older than Rachel. And Laban said that it is not a custom for the younger sibling to marry before the older one. But it ended up as a good thing because Esau sold his birth right and Leah was a good wife, and maybe a better wife than Rachel.

This is so untrue. Leah was unattractive and no man wanted her. Laban had to use trickery to get her married off. The patriarchs wives Sarah and Rebekah were beautiful. So all of a sudden God decides to give Jacob a gal who fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch coming down? A gal that he would mistreat throughout life and treat her and her children as second class family members and refer the Benjamin (he thought the sole survivor of his second marriage) as “the only child of my beloved wife Rachael”? We get it……..there are homely girls in the church and it’s hard for them to get dates let alone marry them off. This situation was a hot mess of human error that God accomplished His perfect will in spite of. Rachel was the one Jacob loved. Leah was uninteresting.

I always thought it was God's fault not to be offensive on here. I grew up thinking it was. In my head I always thought well Rachel and Leah are siblings and they share the same parents. Any siblings would pretty much share some similar features here and there but bible describes them as being complete opposites. Bible describes Rachel as the modern day what would be a model beautiful in appearance and figure and her sister not really well we get the picture. If anything I tell myself, sure God did bless Leah and made up for the deep rejection she faced but isn't God the first to be at fault here because we all know he made the two sisters polar opposites Rachel was lovely and beautiful and Leah was that person that gets overshadowed and seen as the less then the one that gets compared to her sister. What did God expect? Pretty much this would happen and Leah knew this is the kind of treatment she would receive from people. She knew she wasn't pretty she knew she was the shadow of her sister and this is the expected reaction and treatment from her dad and people with the two women. Why couldn't God make her lovely not the same but beautiful but different surely I don't think she would have no one at least any wanting to marry her and see her for who she is so that she wouldn't have her be put in this deceptive scheme by her dad to get married with Jacob because no one wanted her. What did God expect. Did Leah ask to be a Leah she didnt. And yes he made up for it but he was the first responsible maybe he didn't have to do her in that way why should their be Leah's in this world they hurt bad nobody has to question their value or feel less than but reality is not all women are created the same. Some women are beautiful and attractive physically and can love Jesus and be beautiful on the inside to in their character they can have grace for all we know not only is Rachel very beautiful attractive, stunning but maybe she also has a stellar personality, there's women loving Jesus and just as attractive on the inside and then there's also people like me who are very ugly and unattractive for a woman and in all honesty I felt like I had no redeeming qualities I am also ugly if not more on the inside just as I am on the outside. The thing is we can't control this things and it hurts. Leah couldn't control that she had to be Leah eitherz more than anything I don't think it's just the fact that she was unloved, rejected, overshadowed, unheard of but also she didn't love herself at all and my prediction too that she didn't feel like she was a woman, didn't feel like she Could get herself to like her. I could be writing longer here but I think I'll stop here. Maybe I'm wrong for blaming God but that's how I feel" on this about a year ago but it was worse that time because I was dealing with something personal.

SAY all you want to but Leah WAS NOT a saint. Simply put, she was the woman that Jacob hated. We note this from the fact that even after bearing children (and Rachel having NONE) Jacob still had no affection for Leah. She kept naming her children in the hopes that Jacob would love her but it did not happen. When she got Reuben she hoped "my husband will love me" but that was not so. She got Simeon and stated that she was hated. By the time she got Levi she was still talking of her husband being joined to her. It was only when it came to Judah that she changed tune and said I will praise the Lord. Thereafter, she stopped bearing children. When Rachel gave her handmaid to Jacob and 2 sons were born what did Leah do? She chose to compete with Rachel and went ahead to give her handmaid to Jacob so the handmaid could bear children on her behalf. Later on she (Leah) gave birth to a daughter. Now ask yourself the following: What was the real reason Jacob hated Leah? After the death of Rachel. Jacob's affection was turned to Rachel's handmaid. Why did Jacob ignore Leah after Rachel died?

Rachael was not buried in the family plot because she died on the journey and by Gods law had to be speedily buried to avoid contamination and cleanliness which would be further explained in Mosaic law. In a modern context if Jacob were existing in today’s world Rachael’s body would probably be exhumed and transferred to the family plot at a later date but that was forbidden then. Leah was probably buried in the family plot somewhat out of convenience because Jacob and his family were near it at the time of her death. This sermon has so many assumptions. We really don’t get a clear picture of the characters of Rachael or Leah from the biblical description. Too often we resort to cliches “ Oh Rachael was beautiful so she must have been a bimbo and Leah being homely must have had a heart of gold….” Even though any of us could name more than a few homely gals who have nasty personalities as well as good looking girls who are kind hearted. This is feminist Christianity - “Come on guys…….give the ugly girls a chance!” When even the pastors preaching it know that it runs contrary to 1000’ of years of observed male sexual behavior.
