Thank you Mansour. Thank you Yasmin. @Woundedpeacechick 1 minute ago I spent ten years making friendships with and speaking up for Palestinians, as an American raised Jew, living in Israel for more than 20 years. After October 7th I started feeling extremely hurt and disappointed by my friends whom I spoke up for, for so long because of their inability to see the Palestinian part in this whole situation, even after what just happened. Also a denial of a lot of things that happened that day. It’s really healing and hopeful for me to listen to your dialogues with people willing to say the truth. No culture or country is perfect or without sin. I believe that we need to have peace and the only way we will get there is if both sides are willing to take responsibility for their part and be honest about it. I think Muslims cultures have a long way to go with this but you are both doing great work in paving the way. Thank you so much.

I truly respect those who have been able to change their minds from radical Islamic ideology to a more sane and humane way of thinking. I understand the dangers but to stop harming others means you stop harming yourself. I hope all these people continue to help others escape the ideology which causes so much suffering in the world.

Every large population group ought to have two directions to look in - outward and inward - whites, blacks, browns, religions etc.

Jihad verses will NOT go away as long as they are in the Koran. Extremism will go on as long as people read this book.

It's sad even today it's still about "white" and non-white people. Do you realize we are all from the same human race that happen to come in shades of brown?

Yasmine, regarding your comment about cherry picking from Islam, with the example you gave about apostasy, with one verse saying that apostates must be executed (which is the law in 13 Muslim majority countries to date) and another verse saying "there is no compulsion in religion": From what I know, there is a doctrine in Islam called abrogation, which is meant to deal with conflicting verses, and the rule is that the verse revealed later in Mohammed's life takes precedence over the earlier verses. In the case of the verses on apostasy, the one calling for the death of apostates was revealed later, and so this is explains the legal death penalty for those who leave Islam (and the "honour" killings carried out by family and the community in nations where it is not enforced by law.) The more peaceful and tolerant verses in the Quran are the ones revealed earlier to Mohammed while he was still in Mecca, when he did not have any real power and only a few followers. After he fled to Medina and gained political power and a larger following, the later verses that come from that period are the violent and intolerant ones, and because of abrogation (mentioned in the Quran) it is these ones that are most often followed. While the peaceful earlier Meccan verses are convenient to be used by Islamic apologists who want to portray Islam as a peaceful benign, misunderstood religion. This is my understanding, but I'd like to hear what you think because you know Islam better than I do. All the best to you, keep up your work!
