Something that wasn't mentioned about the Glider Mantle: This mantle is the best way to give EVERY weapon EVERYWHERE the chance to mount a monster, thanks to the clutch claw. Which makes it in Iceborne a lot better, even without the upgrade. When you use the claw on a monster and jump off, you can perform an aerial attack ASAP to deal mounting damage.
One interesting idea that I read a few days ago is: if you have a weapon with hidden para/sleep/poison, you can use the Apothecary mantle with Free Element slotted in. This way, whenever the mantle is off you have Non-Elemental Boost, but when you put it on you can paralyze/poison the monster or put it to sleep.
Intriguing, but you couldn't fully release the element that way, and even with the apothecary mantle it would probably be weaker than the weapon with 3 levels of Free element. Still intriguing though
@LoCi Yeah, I looked it up and it seems like this mantle has a lvl3 slot and a lvl2 slot, so you could get Free Element 1 + a para/sleep/poison deco. I haven’t tested this strategy myself yet, but I’m sure that if you get a lot of attacks in while the mantle is on, it should be enough for at least 1 proc, specially if the monster is weak to the status you’re using. And if you’re using sleep or poison, you can take the mantle off manually as soon as it procs to immediately get NEB back and start the cooldown sooner so that you can put it back on sooner.
@@LemonRush7777 Yeh release jewels don't exactly fall from the sky, I've had several combinations since IB dropped though. Getting the most mileage out of offensive guard/release jewels currently
Mantle decos sure make things interesting. Glider is super strong now, who'da thunk it. At the end of the day, if you really value the power from rocksteady/impact/evasion/temporal in that opening
most importantly, you can maximize the uptime of roleplaying Batman in Monster Hunter, AND it's lore-compliant since you can think of Tool Specialist as Batman's utility belt
ha... remember those days when we were waiting for mhw to launch n only saw the trailer about mantles? i was like HOLY SHIT U CAN FLY N GLIDE AROUND TO MOUNT MONSTER!!! IM SO HYPE TO USE IT.... n after the game was launch... i probably only used once or twice just to get up where kirin was sleeping...
I actually made a set for this already as soon as I got that Shara Armor because I thought "SHIT I have to make this happen =D" All 5 pieces of Shara Ishvalda Armor and the Shara Longsword and upgraded glider mantle (more on that below). With jewels it has the following skills: Crit Eye +6 (+ 7 with active mantle) Health Boost +3 Recovery up +3 Crit Boost +3 Weakness Exploit +3 Handicraft +3 (from charm. still don't have the upgrade materials for +4 charm) Partbreaker +3 Coalescence +3 Defense Boost +2 Attack Boost +1 (just a random deko have nothing better, like Agitator or whatever else -_-') Protective Polish +1 (Airborne +1 with active mantle) I really love this set! fully upgraded without augmentation (don't have materials for that yet) and with the Defense increasing Items in your inventory (Forgot their names) you have over 900 defense without buffs so it can tank quite a lot! The best thing is the glider mantle though! Not only can you fit two Lvl. 4 jewels in there, but when you use it (or any other mantle) it will trigger the set Bonus of the Shara Set: While wearing a mantle, you gain Tremor Resistance Lv3, Earplugs Lv5, max Windproof, and Flinch Free! And the Glider mantle holds on for 180 Seconds, so 3 full minutes, and it is a fix time that won't be decreased by getting hit or anything! Furthermore, it only has a cooldown of 120 seconds, so it can be used rather quickly again too! And in the meantime, while waiting for this mantle to recover, you can use a different mantle if you want! And coalescenes make this set also benefit from negative Effects, for when you recover them (which is more often than not really easy to do) you gain a nice Attack + 18, Element attack power +90, and Status buildup +15% while it is active (which is, IIRC, 45 seconds from the moment you recover from a negative ailment). It is really fun to use and I woud suggest people to try it out =D It is also visually one of the best looking armors, so no need for a Layered at all ;)
@@meathir4921 Xproof mantles give you blight resistance as well, but their protection is limited. Glider with two protection jewels doesn't protect you from blights, but you can "spam" the glider mantle. So I'd say pack both for the hunt.
@@meathir4921 I dunno the specific math, but I'm pretty sure that's the case. Xproof vs blights, Glider vs spam. With the Glider Mantle I could survive Teostra's downward flamethrower, that one where he stands in his hind legs to do. At point blank, no dodging. But I still caught fire.
@@meathir4921 Yep, so unless your base armor has negative elemental resist to the specific element, glider with elemental res deco can basically be turned into a second proof mantle.
I've been using the glider for a couple weeks now, I found being able to glide after a clutch dismount and spam mounting attacks really nice as a CB main. It gives me the chance to score a knockdown while a monster's enraged which is quite valuable now people seem to be running agitator more. I use one of the level 4 slots for Flight/Physique as +30% attack is too good... now if only I had a maintenance jewel+, or ideally a Hard maintenance jewel if such a thing exists.
So, something that I thought of the other day that's specifically useful to bow users in multi-player, if you bring apothecary and stick either sleepcoat functionality or paracoat depending on the bow you have into the mantle, you basically get an extra free status or two every hunt. Not sure if it's worth doing over the glider/resistance combo for the extra Stam surge or constitution, but something to consider.
@@semiawesomatic6064 Hardly, just manage your stamina and don't use all of it if you see or think an attack you really need to avoid is coming. Better yet practice keeping at least a single evasion worth of stamina at all times just for that. Its common knowledge that any game that uses stamina for evasion like monster hunter or the soulsborne games you never use all of your stamina. For the matter I specifically mentioned a CC build in multiplayer your goal with that won't be DPS it'll be keeping the monster controlled so the other weapons can hit it as hard and fast as they can. You can afford a lower DPS build for CC and don't don't even need to manage stamina as well because its likely the monster will change targets after attacking.
you'd basicly be giving up 30 seconds of rocksteady for 5 mins of 2 agitater and w/e else you want in the other mantle possibly max out your crit chance if your low on affinity
Why are there dislikes on this video? Why are there dislikes on any of the Monster Hunter Math vids? Did you click on the video and expect no math? Did you not want things explained to you concisely? 🤷♂️
Derelict Dingo There are always dumbasses who have no idea whats going on and dislike the video and go away i guess. Or maybe some people genuinely disagree and show it by disliking the video 🤷🏻♂️
Glider Mantle with Shara armor bonus: full windproof, full earplugs, full tremor resistance ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Also, mount monster and aerial attack skill(30% attack in air).
I made the glider mantle upgrade just today, and i've been having fun with it. It's nice for a support build that benefit from having lots of skills, nice for bow and bowguns as well.
I noticed the glider mantles quick recharge time my first day playing iceborne, and pretty much main it assuming I'm not doing some odd combo fight(i.e. optional quest level 150 fighting namielle and kirin where i alternated thunder and water mantle to not die, sweat baby jeeezuz) i like what they did, because lets be honest, most of us put on temporal mantle and went into "it's lazy damage time" mode. i tried using temporal after getting it's upgraded version yesterday, and got hit a couple of times and it already lost it's evade. I determined having some water mantle against temepred namielle is better than the 10 seconds of "yooouuu caaaaan't caaaatch meeeee" i get from temporal. good job with the balancing capcom ayyyyyee.
@@procow2274 Yah lol I was thinking the same thing. My temporal seems to last for a while but that's because I still attempt to dodge which will give you more uptime in the mantels decos as well. I bow main tho
That's because temporal mantle was absolutely broken and made every other mantle a joke in comparison. They rebalanced it by making it last 30 seconds longer, but you lose 20 seconds of duration every time you get hit, effectively giving you
I usually use Glider + Elemental mantle for maximum blight and status defense. With 2 tool specialist on the elemental mantles with whatever is most useful for a particular monster on the Glider mantle.
I'm loving my frost sheath-crit draw GS set with glider uptime, I clutch onto the monster, drop, charge slash and repeat until I mount it (30% dmg because of frost sheath + 30% dmg because of airborne deco + 100% crit and crit boost and purple sharpness = good deeps)
imagine GS aerial as strong as in the base game with those aerial skills and buffs :D I will try this set for sure, but farming those velk. materials will take a while thanks a lot m8
JinJinx and Tuna [Monster Hunter Math] THANK YOU. I knew I wasn’t the only one.. like what if the kill screen isn’t blurry asf and you have a sick pose?! You want that expired ass mantle on? Amateur hour!
Finally remembered to go back and smash Sharas face in to finish my set. Thank you kind sir for your hard work and blessed numbers. If you can keep it active the assassins hood can work wonders also. 6:24 for standard mantle improvements 8:12 for 100% uptimes 10:10 for individual mantle optimal savings. I'm not a fan of this table as your core comparison, it compares combined mantles with stand-alone and the % can be misleading. as you neatly stated, what matters is uptime vs recharge. extrapolated additional data (for build decisions) uptime/base/TS3 -TS1 180/120/84 glide -12 360/180/126 hood -18 60-120-180/210/147 apo-immu-res (168/189 TS2/TS1) -21 90-120/300/210 eva-drag -30 90/360/252 imp-rock-gold-vit -36 for the most part glider will combine with almost anything for massive uptime. imp-rock-gold-vit should generally be treated as one-shot/utility skills with a 36-180 second no-mantle cost for the utility (the cost is off-set/delayed depending on build/mantle replacement). Hood can allow for better uptime margins than glider but that's based on keeping it active and the higher base-recharge.
In a normal run (where the monster move to other areas) there is no big need to tool specialist, because you will get like 8 minutes of mantles effects (using glider-element-glider in that order). You can change The order to element-glider to get 5 minutes, because The monster will eventually go to another area, giving you time to recharge the mantle. For arenas, its very good to have at least 1 lvl of tool specialist
It's also possible to use the Glider and Assassin Mantles with the Shara set bonus for effectively infinite Rocksteady effects, but this is a meme and the Shara set's skills are trash. But in theory you could use this to make a Lance build that never stops charging. Ever.
That feeling when you go and check your deco's knowing that your not going to have the ones you need and.... They're there. 2 tool specialist/challengers yay.
Glider and any elemental mantle is basically why I enjoy running full shara set. Gets me earplug and flinch free without having to slot them, and still get room for most offensive skills, ending up with more skills than whenever I try to put earplug 5 in any other set. Obviously not "meta", but not only do I benefit from great utility skills, I get to look divine!
As a PS4 player I can't say how much I wish I wasn't a broke college student and could play games on PC right now :< -For real though, I feel for ya. I can imagine it sucks seeing all these videos.
Correct me if i'm wrong but wouldn't Immunity mantle work as another combo option for glider as well? Has the same 210 base cooldown as elemental/bandit with a slightly lower duration of 120 seconds but since glider has a cooldown of 120 secs anyway it doesn't make a difference since you'll be switching to glider to get the better deco slots + Extra mount damage Also has a lvl3 + lvl2 slot giving better deco options than elemental/bandit and gives immunity to abnormal status, Meaning while up there's no Poison/Para/Sleep/Blast/Bleed/Def down/Miasma/Stun (Which also makes Thunderblight harmless in addition). The stun resistance plus it's versatility seems far more useful than using an elemental mantle that may not have any use against the monster your fighting.
For those wondering here is how to get all mantles and boosters. Do questline in vid for many (most ele, vit, chal, ghil, clean b, glide, ev, band, rs) Research Coral Pukei (water) Re SJho (Apoth) Re BV Vall (imm) Deliver Kushala and Teo wing (drag) Do Rathian optional that doesn't have speech bubble. Pink Power Grab I think. Unlocks Feisty Girl Talk. (heath b) Then MR quests 125 Impact 150 Temp 175 Aff Boost
Been using Glider/Ele Resist Mantle + Full Shara Set for a Meme Kinsect Only armor set with some hilariously effective results. Completing 20 minute investigations don't seem like a daunting task anymore.
It still has many uses. I use DB so I got use to dodging monster attacks pretty well at this point. Vitality mantle can be used to sustain certain skills like resentment, heroics, peek performance, crisis, agitator, max might, crit draw.... And yes you could always go back to camp and switch to something more fitting to the hunt.

The slots certainly breath new life into mantles. I'd pretty much settled on running one of the defensive mantles for the long uptime on skills. Rocksteady or Temporal works nicely for the other slot since it means that you can pretty much pull off a Clutch Claw Attack or Flinch Shot without having to worry about getting knocked off in the process. Glider Mantle fills much the same role by having a longer uptime, but without much added utility. Depending on the hunt, there's not much need for actual utility of the mantle itself, so the increased uptime is hands down more useful. I hadn't thought about it this deeply before, but I'll probably swap Glider Mantle into a few of my loadouts where the utility isn't very important.
I'm glad that mantle diversity is actually a thing now (this method is a great incentive IMO), and more extra slots for things like Gunlance (which will always appreciate more slots) is awesome. 90%+ uptime on up to 2 extra Level 1/2 Decos is a big quality of life improvement for Gunlance in particular, since that's any two of Guard Up, Protective Polish (which benefits from any bonus time via Tool Specialist), or Evade Extender/Window (generally solid Level 2 Decos for Gunlance), or even Level 1 Decorations (Health Boost/Guard/Elemental Attack Gem/Artillery if you have weird Deco RNG).
Glider + clutch claw = mount. Just release the hold of the clutch claw and you fall slower right next to the monster giving you enough time for a free swing in the air. Handy to get a mount after enraging a monster from a previous clutch claw yeet. Glider & impact mantles are What I use on my slugger build cuz I love controlling/dictating the fight. Yeet, K.O. mount wax & repeat until the monster is exhausted. Toss in traps & environmental hazards & you can pretty much script the entire fight in your favor for a super clean run. It's not max deeps but it is insane control.
Temporal Mantel with Switch-Axe plus new claw mechanics is fucking amazing in my opinion. Once you charge the phail put on Temporal Mantle, use claw into discharge and repeat. Iceborne is one of the best DLC ever.
Running Nerg hammer with Shara full and having a lovely hunting life up in high Grinding Lands, laughing at roars, walking through storms and generally staying on my feet. I don't regret dropping my first five great spiritvein loldroprate gems on it.
Once in Base World I made a meme crit draw aerial GS set that abused a quirk where the Glider Mantle sheathes your Weapon automatically when airborne. It was shit for dps even before Aerial GS got nerfed but hey it was silly and that’s what counts.
This is the best new ever! I have all these tool specialist decos for lvl 4 and I love using that mantle for jumping attacks. Thank you, JinJinx and Tuna!
(Just gonna pretend someone saw my comment speculating this many videos ago) Finally a video that explains what my small voice could not. Glider is SS Tier in IB for slot uptime alone. The aerial memes makes it that much stronger. Happy Hunting!
Hi JinJinx, just want to check: If i play Lunastra Tool Specialist secret which gives 50% cooldown reduction on mantles, does this allow me to wear rocksteady / evasion mantle everytime? Evasion - 300 seconds / 150 seconds Rocksteady - 360 seconds / 180 seconds Considering Glider has 180 seconds usage, this will allow me to use both mantle after 150 / 180 seconds in Glider mantle right? I'm thinking if we have at least LV3 Tool Specialist in base armor the glider mantle will be usable as well after 90 seconds usage from evasion / rocksteady.
Ya, i prefer to just run complementary decos in the mantles. Stuff like divine blessing or recovery 2 on my rocksteady or slugger 2 on my impact, and i just make sure i take a mixed deco in my actual build so those skills are maxed while mantles are active, id rather i hyper focus the utility of the actually good mantles rather than use trash mantles as stat sticks (cloths?) that ill have to micromanage during a hunt so im not wasting deco uptime
I'm a degenerate with full Shara and keep 2 Tenderizers in each mantle to help round out all the offensive skills slotted into decos. Fuck roars, fuck tremors, fuck wind pressure, fuck flinching. Lol.
I personally use Glider/Immunity Mantle on my Namielle PEP CB set. I get 100% uptime and am able to fit extra skills that I normally couldn't because of Namielle's trash skills.
Damn I didn’t know the glider mantle recharge time was only 120 seconds. That’s how long the temporal mantle effect duration is. I can go glider, temporal, then glider with no waiting for recharge. First 8 mins of a fight with extra decos. What a game changer!
Question is, is having no mantle downtime and almost permanent deco slots worth not going for the other mantles (Rock, Impact, etc.)? Personally I like the comfiness that comes with Rocksteady/Goldy Mantles, since most monsters have the ability to wombo combo you from full health.
Do item prolonger work on mantle? I do it with glider and impact and find out glider get buffed from 3min to 4:30 min. Inpact however only last for its default duration.
Hey I know you guys are all about the min max and it helps me so much. I would like advice on the Ishvala Set and this mantles guide. I intend to run 5 piece of ishavala and use the most uptime mantles. Should I go alpha or beta on that set socketing for damage?
What i am using now is give Element Mantles +2 TS so i can buff the Glider Mantle with either +4 Element Res according to monster (like 2 gems of L.4 fire resistant) - literally it's like having another low-cost Element Mantle at disposal, isn't it?
Very interesting, I really need to look into playing about with that. Or just slot in hard defense jewels, cos I've got 2 and we know defense up is sooooo good ;)
Does a mantle have to be actually wrapped on your character for the gem slots to take effect, or do you get the gem slots skills just for the mantle being in your equiped items?
I'm still confused about how many points of tool specialist you really need and where to put it (gear, one mantle, both mantles?). Can you give some concrete examples for Glider/Bandit and Glider/Elemental with actual gems? Thanks
Hi I really appreciate all of the math and research you guys do to give us proper information! Could you give me a link to the album of all the combinations of Mantles? It's not in the description atm
I think you made a mistake. At 8:40 you say all elemental mantles get a level 2 and level 2 OR a level 2 and level 3. Which mantle has a level 2 AND level 3 slot with a 180 effect/210 CD?
I know I'm late to the party here, but forgive me, I'm a PC player. How good/bad is Glider + Vitality mantles then, seeing how Vitality is 120up/360down and its slots are levels 3 and 4 (compared to Glider's 180up/120down and 2 level 4 slots)? Though it's less uptime, I feel the decoration setup might be more worth. For reference, Bandit and the non-dragon X-proof mantles are 180up/210down with level 3 and 1 slots on Bandit, or 2 level 2's on X-Proof
