I am the original owner of a 1990 525i with the same color scheme as your car. It’s in mint condition with everything working except two bulbs in the AC vent and controls. I had the door panels reupholstered in leather and a host of other things. I love driving the car plus many good memories with my late wife.

That's really cool, I hope you keep it forever. These cars really do end up meaning more than the sum of their parts.

Best E34 review on YT. Everything you say is totally on spot. For me, the E34 is one of my all time favourite cars of all times. Back in the late 80s and 90s, there were tons of them on the road here in Austria, and my best friend owned one. I missed the time to buy one back when they were cheap. Now good E34s are quite rare and aren't cheap anymore. Maybe I will find one for myself pretty soon. I own a '88 E30 convertible, so a nice E34 next to it would look good in my driveway.

I have '92 520i and I absolutely love it and feel every same feelings you told in this video :) Currently I'm working on the restoration of the car top the bottom, started from body and paint (working on some rust issue), then rework all the electricity/wires and new sound system(i will update the inside of the original system), leather restoration etc.

I agree with all of this! I miss my e34, I had a 520, which was a bit underpowered, followed by two 525s. By the time I sold my last one (about 13 years ago, yikes) rust was starting to be a problem for many here in the UK, especially on the sills in my case.

Nice video, supremely eloquent soliloquy dude. I totally agree with everything you've said about the e34 being beautifully tuned and giving you a feeling that it's an extension of your senses, complimenting your driving by answering to your every input. Hell I change gear on my m50 e34 even when I don't need to, just to feel that gear lever slide slickly and satisfyingly up and down the range matched to that gloriously silky 24valve 6 pot. Along with that cushioned buttery ride, it's an awesome place to be, controlled yet supple.

Got my first E34 around 2019, was an M50B20 NV, after it I got a TDS M51 wagon, then a M20B20 and now I also got another M20B20 that is pretty mint in the chassie and interior, just needing some maintenance parts changed. These cars can get pretty addicting with their looks, build quality, ease of maintenance and last but definitely not least, their driving characteristics. Soft but connected and talkative, luxuries but precise. And it might carry some weight, but compared to an E32 735i I often drive that I have in the family, does the E34 sure feel very light, and an E34 is no large nor heavy car by today's standards.
@MyersMotors
@MyersMotors 2 года назад
You're spot on. I think they're severely underrated, but I guess I shouldn't complain about that because it keeps prices somewhat more reasonable. It's definitely hard to buy just one though!

Great review and I totally agree with you. An E34 is what driving is/was all about: mechanical, pure, rear wheel drive, manual and a normally aspirated I6…..doesn’t get much better in my opinion. I recently bought a ‘91 Alpina B10 3.5 in excellent condition and it is a dream to drive. Best decision in a long time.

I had a 1990 525i 5 speed. Paid 900 bucks for it off of ebay lol. Had to replace a lot of the brake components and the slave cylinder for the clutch, but after that, lasted me a fun 5 years. I bought it with 210,000 miles.

Try and drive the IX version of that with m-tech version with lowered suspension. It has rack and pinion sterring awesome drive. Put some Bilstein shocks and boy, what a drive. I remember driving between Bologna and Innsbruck along side a mustang by the time we got to 230km/h the back of the mustang was twitching while the beemer was still smooth and steady to 245 where i stopped with the mustang in the mirror. In that part of Italy caltex sells 100 octane fuel, boy does that quiten up an engine

The E39 and E38 have flat, harder seat bottoms, compared to a E34/E32. Very few know this. Test drove a E38 750iL w/ only 82K, and got back in my E34 w/ 160K at the time, and it was more padded and comfortable - crazy to believe I know. Does your `95 have a LSD? That's unusual w/ a late 525i.
@MyersMotors
@MyersMotors 2 года назад
You're 100% correct, barring maybe the sport seats in my experience. I think the leather is a higher quality in the older cars as well, although I've found it's definitely not as durable and requires closer attention with age. Both my E34s have LSDs, yes. The 95 has one because it came with the cold weather package alongside ASC. Definitely noticable in the snow.

IMHO, although I love the 7 Series, the 5 Series is the better car overall. And I love all the buttons in the 80s/90s cars.

That exact car was my first BMW and my favorite to this day. My next was a '99 540M. It felt like a tank in comparison; in a bad way... It felt heavy and numb and was much harder to see out of. I miss my 95 525i. It was a total POS with no AC, faded paint and leaked about a quart of oil a week, but I loved how light it felt and the great visibility out from the low belt line. I currently have an '09 M Roadster in the garage, but I'd GLADLY trade it for a sorted e34 manual. (Want to trade?)
@A1DJPaul
@A1DJPaul 2 года назад
525's are Very Fast, You just don;t feel like you are travelling Fast due to the ride & build Quality. Also, Hold your revs over 4,000 rpm to get the best out of the engine & available power. The M50 engine is a different animal if you hold your gears & change up at 6,500 rpm. ( maybe US cars have a different set up for Emissions ? ) A Good 525 M50 should not lack speed or acceleration. Even the UK 520i is Fairly Quick, ( UK 520i has the identical M50 engine 1994cc , 6 in line, & is more than adequate performance. )
@MyersMotors
@MyersMotors 2 года назад
They definitely get out of their own way, don't get me wrong. It's a fantastic little motor perfectly suited to the car. I just get spoiled by cars with power north of 200hp and it changes my perspective on speed.
@A1DJPaul
@A1DJPaul 2 года назад
@@MyersMotors No Need for more than 200bhp. a Good 525i is the best car you will find. The 3.0 V8's & 4.0 V8's have serious engine problems in the cylinders. Most went back under Warranty for New Replacement Engines. Alusil / nicasil Boreliners etc.

@@MyersMotors Spares Breakers are also Rare here in the UK. A Lot of UK RHD Cars were Bought up & shipped to the Middle East countries , Iraq, Iran etc. In the UK they Rust due to winter salt on the roads & damp Climate. Once overseas they Last forever. & Labour is cheap to repair them & Keep them running. The Trade was buying them & shipping them in Bulk overseas. They were even Buying up all the PARTS Car for export.

@MyersMotors
@MyersMotors 2 года назад
Awesome! They're really solid, reliable little cars, my only advice is don't overheat the motor! As you may know, the only downside to these cars is the plastic cooling system components. They usually last about 100k miles. If you're worried about them failing, just go ahead and install a new water pump with a metal impeller and maybe a metal thermostat housing, the rest of the system is usually plenty fine. Do the thermostat while you're in there. If you overheat the motor, you will blow a head gasket and you will crack the head, which for most people means the car is done. Just treat the car right, change the oil regularly, and it'll last for ever.
