Hi My shifter does not change gears sfoftly In Every gear is hard to get in Its manual gearbox At Run engine is also hard Like when engine is off So have u got any idea whats the issue may be?
"Rug"!!!! Holy moly. After multiple repairs for mucho $$$ -- cable, slave & master cylinder -- you're the first mechanic to mention pedal range restriction from a rug. Just removed the factory-installed rug. Problem solved. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
This is by far the best explanation / training video I’ve ever watched on RU-vid and I use RU-vid all the time. This guy is top notch on so many levels.
Agree great video but can you please help me? Scion tc won’t go into gear while running replaced the slave bled lines clutch seems fine just need to know if it’s clutch or shifter? When vehicle is running and I try to put it into gear there’s no grinding just won’t go just at a loss…
You solved my problem. It was hard to get into 1st and becoming dangerous. The issue was simple. My service guy couldn't see anything wrong with the clutch. Got it cleaned and took it for a drive while the mats were still drying off with no problem. It was the mat going under up through the clutch preventing my foot from getting it all the way in. Thanks a million buddy.
IT WAS THE RUG! Factory carpet had folded in on itself. You are awesome. Ive heard of that before and thisnis the first time ive experienced it! Thank you for the video!
Wow, great information, simply explained...I was having shifting issues and to my surprise it was a rubber floor mat that was an obstruction which he mentioned. I was happy it was such a simple thing and he nailed it as far as trouble shooting. Thanks man, liked and subscribed
Have a toyota truck. When the vehicle is moving it cannot shift from 3rd back to second. Once the vehicle stops completely it will pop into second. Would this be a synchro problem?
Try double declutch. This is clutch in, shift to neutral, let clutch out and rev engine slightly then push clutch in and try the downshift. If it goes in OK then it could be the synchros or clutch adjustment. I would check clutch first as it probably this that is the problem.
Master cylinders can fail without leaking , they can bleed fluid back into the reservoir and give the same symptoms of hard to select gears and over time the ingagement point gets lower and lower to the floor as the seals continue to fail.
IF YOUR SHIFTER FEELS LIKE YOUR SHIFTING THROUGH CEMENT WHEN CAR IS HOT MAKE SURE THE SHIFTER CABLES ARE NOT RUBBING OR TOO CLOSE TO EXAUST COMPONENTS. MY CASE WAS MISSING HEAT SHEILDING THAT ALLOWED THE CABLES TO SAG ON THE DOWN PIPE. CHEERS
1992 chevy k1500 nv4500, sloppy shifter, If anyone has a sloppy shifter, pull the shifter stub out and use a prybar to push the two pins back inward on the tower, I used wire to wrap it and keep them from backing out, my shifter is 100% better, took me a minute to figure it out, I was bout ready to just sell the truck before this.
Thanks for the information, T.Cross Volkswagen shortly can not go in first gear, but still, a new car will take to manufacture for service paying insurance monthly
My car has an issue shifting into reverse, sometimes it feels like it is stuck on something? then sometimes it will shift into reverse. What should I do?
Man! Thank you. You're probably the nicest person that I have ever watched on RU-vid as far as car repair goes. My wife's Jette 5speed manual mk4 1.9 tdi has issues with shifting. We did auto to manual swap, then replaced the transmission again for a good one but here and there shift stick gets stiff and it is very difficult to engage or disengage. Or to change the gear. I have to force it very strongly to do make it move. Clutch is brand new, the clutch pedal goes down extremely easy like I have never had with any other car - maybe there's the connection to the problem? I am puzzled on this where to look and what to fix...
@luboshcamber1992 hi did you solve the problem as I have just had a new clutch installed but suspecting the clutch disk was put in the wrong way which gives all symptoms you've described. Is the clutch h still working or did it fail?
Tow days ago my car won’t go into all gears when starting machine when off then all gears was okay. then i replacement clutch and pressure plate it’s solve that problem but now won’t go just into reverse gear and little hard I first gear so what will the problem can you help me?? Opel astra 2005 manual
Thank you for this video! It helped me understand how both clutches & transmissions function, and function together. It also helped me understand what issue I might be having Thank you very much. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Please help. My mechanic just changed my mercedese a150 clutch disc. Now when I clutched down completely, the gear cannot select. Unless i clutch half way. And the clutch pedal is so hard
Hi I have a 2018 hyundai tucson manual transmission, had the clutch changed 4 months ago due to really low biting point, this last week it now keeps getting stuck in reverse gear, and I can't get 2nd gear, just grinds if you try to put it into 2nd, any advice please?
My clutch is not disengaging when the clutch pedal is pushed in. Was working fine when I parked the 2004 amazda 3 last month. What could the problem be???
I'm using a Nissan np300.. recently its so hard in gear shifting.. sometimes it doesn't even shift the gear at all..what might be the issue? Is it maybe the same issues you've mentioned above??
My Mechanic re-did my Head Gasket on my Z28 6-speed it won't get into 2nd🚫 he's going too take gearbox off great Transmission place next block he deals with, he believes it's the teeth in 2nd..what do you think ??
The gear 2 and 4 wouldn't work, but after shifting gears repeatedly it got fixed, I don't know how. Now it works but I am not sure what caused the problem
Insignia VXR 2010 400 HK 4X4. Had some issues getting into 5th ones in a while + hard to get into 1 after reversing. Was a simple linkage adjustment. Actuallt very easy is some good videos around guys if everything else is ok this is differently worth doing especially of car has +80.000 km
Have problem when shifting into 5th gear it sometimes grinds if i push to far right. Also 3 times reverse wouldnt engage. The reverse camera came on but the car stayed in neutral. 2018 Dacia Sondero Stepway
Have strong smell when parked.... It smells like house gas ..... I checked but found no gearbox oil leaks..... Also shifting difficult especially 1st, 2nd and 3rd.... 4th and 5th goes in little better ..... Reverse is also very smooth when shifting in it but hard when removing from reverse to 1st.....new flywheel, Clutch, pressure plate and release bearing fitted few weeks back then it was all good for a while and start doing again now.... Also whining noise while driving but when i put in neutral while driving the noise stops
Hello i had same problem with the guys in the comment. When car is on cant shift and when is off can shift gear without problem. And after 2 days it works for a while and goes back. And when i hit brake pedal i hear whoosing sound. Idk if it has any connection.my car is c4 picasso 2007.
My car won't go into gears when the engine is turned on, but when the engine is off it goes to every gear without even pressing the clutch pedal. Some mechanic told me to replace a clutch kit but I just want to know if is possible to replace the slave cylinder only?
Well, at least now I have an idea what could be the issue of my Skoda Octavia 2 (2008). Tho I saw this too late as my clutch is probably burned. It actually happend today. I was going to work, the car barelly shifted into gears. While on the road the car stopped going into gears, saw smoke coming out of the hood and a strong smell of clutch fluid going straight into my nose. I quickly got in a sade place on the side of the road and shut it down. That scared me really badly.
I have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata, when I press the clutch for 1st gear it for some reason gets stuck and I loose clutch pressure, and I'll wait a second and the pressure comes back. Someone said to check the fluid for the clutch on the fire wall but I can't see it and I looked very hard for it can you help me please thank you
Excellent video, I have a problem with my manual transmission hard to shift. First was shifting between first and second gear vice versa were hard to shift some times, after a while the problem decrease, after some times get stuck in third gear for a while that happens a couple of times and now when a try to change between four and third gear sometimes is not possible to get the shift, I have to take to the second and then change into the third, any advice or suggestion I beginning to think that maybe is the shift cable.
Very nice video thanks. I have a 93 Toyota T100 5 speed that is a bit hard to get into gear, there's resistance when changing gears, its pretty stiff, not 'slippery' or smooth. The action on the clutch pedal seems good, have changed the master cylinder and gear box fluid out recently, do you think it might be the clutch? Gear box?
Hi guys, I have manual transmission car. I am having trouble shifting into any gear only when it is driven for sometime. Once it is cooldown it shift just fine. Clutch don't sink, it is stiff. No leakage in master or slave cylinder. No issue with shifter linkage as it shif just fine when it is cold. Now what am left with is either clutch if am right. Or could it be air in clutch but like i said, clutch padle don't sink. Any advice guys? Or bad transmission oil.
Can anyone give me any advice on what could be wrong with my Nisan qashqai clutch is fine but all off a sudden I couldn’t get third gear and it made a loud noise I started heading home and it just got worse I now can’t get any gear and neutral seems to be more forward than normal please help any ideas is there a cable or anything that can cause this
This morning I couldn't get into 5th gear or 6th, then while parked and going into reverse it was stiff! I don't usually drive or used my car since I work closer to home now. So not sure what's happening but I noticed that since Christmas the clutch would squeak when Pressing down on the pedal. The clutch was replaced back in August 2020 so it should still be fine? The mechanic I spoke to said that it was an old clutch that would need to be replaced but I told him it's barely 4 years old how's that. He tried to say after 2 years should be changed lol Nah not going back there again. Need to figure out what's wrong, before taking it in... This video was very informative but unfortunately I don't have anywhere where I could lift the car up and try to have a look?
I just got my first new car. It's a 24 Honda Civic Hatch 2.0 6speed. I'm curious about how stiff and hard it is to shift. I've only owned used Manuals and they all shifted smoothly like butter. Is it because it's new? Or is it the car? I can't seem to find any info online about new standard transmissions being hard to engage. Thanks all and wonderful video!
I drive a manual Scion XB 2008. I've put 220,000 miles on it, never changed the transmission fluid or clutch. Is it overdue? Once in a blue moon, it's hard to go into 3rd gear. Only happens a few times a year. How often should clutches be replaced in general? Great video and explanations by the way.
I have question for u about my 98 honda civic Manuel. So I was driving some last week at night an I hit something heard a loud pop underneath my car, now when I'm driving it has a problem going into 4th an 5th gear, not sure if transmission is going out or if it's the clutch or fly wheel.
I have this problem on my vauxhall zafira tourer ive had a new clutch fitted and fly wheel. The car was fine for a day. And now the gears get stick and wont change can you please help and advise what can it be.
Pretty positive it’s my throw out bearing but the car will go into all gears while off but once I start and press the clutch it won’t do anything doesn’t even act like the clutch is engaged
My manual transmission is easy to shift gear on the first hour of usage. After that it becomes difficult (almost impossible) to shift gears. The next day, it's the same problem - easy to shift for the first hour, then difficult to shift afterwards. Is this a mechanical problem or an oil problem?
Thank you so much for this video. I am curious however if you know about non synchronous transmissions as used in medium and heavy duty trucks? I just started driving an Eaton 8LL manual in my quad axle mack dump truck at work and it's been grinding like crazy, and during the day it gets harder to shift, not easy like it used to be where it could mesh together as it should. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My mechanic just put in a new reconditioned gearbox in my vw polo 1.4. Now sometimes 2nd gear does not go in the first time. I must try a couple of times or put extra force. Why would this happen?
My 2020 plate I've had for a month has struggled to go into first gear sometimes! It feels like it's blocked, so I've had to bring it out, put it in again and again until it goes in! Then another time I'm stopped and had gear in neutral....I've went into 1st gear and it's not fully engaged with clutch all the way down and jumped back out....another time it fully went in and went to accelerate and made a gear crunching noise, then had to bring out and put in......and finally in 4th gear I can see the gear bobbing back and forwards when engaging and disengaging the accelerator! I've had a vauxhall viva without any issues with the gears and my partner had a Corsa for 11 year with no major issues either! May I ask what do you think the main problem is???
Hi MechanicBase (or anyone else that can possibly help). Im going to apoligize now for the legnth of my question but hopefully ive got all the info in there for the mechanic geniuses here that we all love. I feel I may be on the right path with troubleshooting my issue but any help/advice would be much appreciated. I have a 1990 Toyota hilux RWD - 4Y carby petrol that was used as a daily driver. Roughly 18 months ago it was taken off the road to have some maintenance done - new carby, new head gaskets and some body work, but nothing that would disturb the gearbox as the engine was left in the body during this time. Finally fired it back up and got it running smooth the other weekend but for some reason now I cant get into gear with the engine running and the clutch pushed in. I can turn the engine off and put the truck into gear good as gold but when the motors running its feels like theres a wall or barrier preventing me from moving the stick fully into the gear slot. - still has normal play in the neutral area with motor running so you can line up the shifter to each position fine, but it wont actually slot into the position where 1st, 2nd or 3rd ect are. Closest it would get to actually going in would be reverse but it would start to grind/crunch at a certain point and im not keen on forcing it in lol. Being so long ago its hard to tell but the Clutch pedal could perhaps be a little less springy than before but it feels relatively normal to press and pedal returns just fine, However it is as if the clutch itself isnt doing anything. Therss no noise that comes with the clutch being pushed in either which i beleive you would normally hear if the release bearing was having issues. Everything sounds and feels normal and as it should. Ive also put the stick into gear with the engine switched off and then turned the ignition over to see if i would lurch foward with the clutch pedal pushed in and it did indeed. So this is where I stand... Does anyone know if its even possible that my clutch plate (which was working fine beforehand) could have somehow crapped itself while not in use for roughly 18 months or is this likely to be something else like the release bearing seizing or even something else thats less intrusive haha. Im probably clutching at straws here but if i can avoid having to take out the gearbox then im a happy man haha Again, Any advice is much appreciated.
