I did the same job for 4 years in Germany, all my colleagues had surgeries, either on the knees or on the spine, every time I remember those difficult years, I praise God that I got out of there without surgery.
@@Shooting_Stuff You don't know anything about America, other than sitting in an air-conditioned car, air-conditioned house, and air-conditioned office. Go out and walk on the road, and you will see how bad the America really is.
30 meters of this passed through my car in 1995 causing my serious injury, having my right leg almost cut. The fact that I'm still living is a miracle!
@@eileenj7144I'm assuming it was at an end point. They're supposed to have guards to prevent that but I've seen a lot that don't have them. Usually after an accident the city is too greedy to fix it quickly. There's a man on RU-vid that goes around pointing out improperly installed ones too.
A guardrail saved my life along with 3 friends back in college. We had been playing paintball out in the woods around Monticello for a one credit class at UVA. I’m serious! It was a great day but in the final game these guys were coming up a hill and I was fending them off with blanks since I was out of paintballs. They eventually figure it out and charged up the hill and my bandana had come off and a shot caught me right in the middle of my forehead. My vision turned red and I thought it was blood but it wasn’t. Anyway, as we were driving back down to UVA, I must’ve passed out. I woke up with my friend in the front seat shaking me. I became conscious as we flew down the road and were about to take a slight drop and a sharp left hand curve was at the bottom. On the other side of the guardrail below, I saw that it was a sheer cliff down into a gorge. I only had a second to react, but I hit the brakes, went over the drop and within a few seconds I turned the wheel left and we began literally riding that guardrail all of the way around the length of the curve. I did everything i could to hang onto the road and I have one flash memory of my friend leaning over towards me with the look of absolute terror on his face and him trying to be away from the closed window with that strong guardrail right against the door as the loudest & craziest noise was screeching through the car. Somehow, I managed to maintain control and the curve ended and the two guys in the back jumped out hollering about how we just cheated death. I saw the entire right side of my white 87 prelude was now permanently gashed. In a daze i looked under and saw the muffler hanging down and pushed it up with my index finger which was a really stupid move! The severe pain really snapped me out of it. After some testing, we eventually all got in and drove back to UVA. So that was great. Anyway, that entire long length of Virginia guardrail saved our lives! Great work out there, guys!
@@professorfinnih Thanks! After it happened, I was able to move on fine. I’ve driven around the world and been a limousine driver. It’s just become another chapter in one of the autobiographies that I finally decided to write. I’ve got about 15 legit near death experiences in there.
@@mattsapero1896 15 whoa that’s a lot. You’re as tough as nails. Can’t imagine going through that twice . All the best man and congrats on the upcoming book
I used to work extremely hard like this and my body started breaking down with lots of pain and consequently too many pain killers. Then I got smart and bought an excavator and tractor with hydraulic controls. Best move I ever made and the best tools I ever owned. Work smart, not hard and dangerous! Good luck.😊
That’s probably not America. The rest of the world can’t afford equipment like we can. I’ve seen people do some pretty crazy stuff to get a job done while living in Brasil. A little ingenuity and a lot of brute strength is usually what it takes.
@@snappingturtle4726 I was gonna say the same thing. And depending on which country, they may not be able to get that type of equipment directly because of US sanctions.
All people do is give these kinds of people equipment and they always destroy it because they just don't have basic thinking skills. That's why you see them hauling things so insanely overloaded. Not everyone is equal
Man, seeing them do this work really shows how much effort goes into keeping us safe on the road. Gotta appreciate the teamwork too! Let's not forget, every installment has a story behind it, and these guys are part of it. 💪🚧
When I hear rich guys talk about the "hard work" they put in building their fortunes, I think about guys (and gals) like this who break their backs on a daily basis for crap money. This is what real hard work looks like.
I don't see feminist or "modern women" seeking to gain equality here...stay single men, work hard, play hard...do what you want, when you want with who you want...and remember, supporting three ladies who give you immense pleasure, is still far cheaper than having one wife...think it through guys...just saying...
@@successportal4527 trust me, my friend, you will never have to worry about supporting a wife. Your level of misogyny will keep self-respecting women far, far away.
If it was installed correctly. I very much doubt this is correct installation. The amount of tension energy that has stored up can't be good for a crash. Would like to get SteveTheGuardrailGuy's opinion though

Except there a guy who goes around and checks these all the time cause one was installed wrong and it killed his daughter in a motor vehicle accident. And what he says and notices about 98% of them is them being installed like this..... There not supposed to be under stress and or fastened all the way. That's what the spaced thing there getting hung up on is for there supposed to have play to absorb the impact. Technically not at all the right way to install them.

I love when prejudice people who have never seen real work assume that Americans don't know the meaning of it. Granted most illegal immigrants I've worked with work harder than most Americans I've worked with, and have stronger family values, integrity, and morals than the typical modern American. However, despite them having a low opinion of Americans I earn their respect because I know how to work and I'll keep up with any crew, from anywhere, all day any day. I'll do the job of 3-5 all day long without slowing down because that's how I was raised. The biggest difference I've noticed is that these people don't always have a choice, whereas Americans usually only work this hard by choice rather than from necessity. There are plenty of arrogant Americans who think they know the meaning of "working your ass off" when in reality a very small percent of them do, but that mentality isn't only limited to Americans. Hell, I was always told that wildland firefighting was supposed to be one of the toughest jobs out there until I actually tried it and realized it's nothing compared to how I was raised to work. Regardless of your opinions towards Americans, there are still plenty who know the meaning of hard work. I actually moved to the UK and can say that finding people who actually know how to work hard is MUCH harder to find than where I'm from.
@@MidnightToker420 I didn't read past the part in the beginning where you assumed I was a beaner Glad my comment got to you though 😏😉 Maybe I'll read it later
