Placing the hose by the outlet to remove air is probably the most helpful tip I've seen and I've watched a number of videos. Most people submerge the hose head a few times until there's no water drawing back into the pool, but there could still potentially be air trapped inside. Great stuff man!
Thanks a lot for the video. My valve system at the pump is a little different than yours but I got the main ideal from your video. Also, I thought about trying something as I was watching you fill the vacuum hose by submerging it in the pool and I that was once I had the vacuum connected to the pole and the hose in the water all but the one end that goes in the skimmer. I used a water hose and filled the hose completely with water from the garden hose and connected to the skimmer and it began vacuuming immediately. Thanks for your video! Not only did I learn something it made me think about another way of getting water in the vacuum hose. Thanks again!
Thanks for the video. Just moved to a house with a pool and had no idea what the piece was until I saw this video. I thought I was going to have to get in my pool to vacuum it with the stingray looking vacuum!

I like to add a canister with a fine mesh filter in the hose before it connects to the suction. That way you collect the dirt and throw it out, instead of sending it all to your filter.
one of the best things they have is a leaf canister, you know it not going to the pump or well the big ass pieces, also check out vac mates if you pool don't have a vacuum port, they don't work on all skimmers though
Another quick way to not have to blow out the hose is feed the hose down under the water as you feed it into the pool. Then then you get to the skimmer end you'll already have your water filled into the hose.
it's not hard to find out if suction is there or not, Some skimmers have 2 holes or pipe in them, one is to the main drain and one is to the pump, normally closet to the pump is the one, you can find out if you have suction by putting your hand over the hose quickly don't hold it there you will lose prime or stick your finger in there it's not going to suck ya in I promise lol, If you have no suction check the skimmer see if you have the hose attached to the right pipe first if only one pipe or is connected to pipes with no suction then go to your pool equipment normally a jandy valve will be installed on it, one to the main drain and one to the skimmer box, open the skimmer box one more as it's a valve so it may be only a quarter on for example turn it more to open it up more, watch your pump to make sure you don't loose prime, don't do it quick either do it slow on the jandy valve just watch the pump make sure it's priming
alot easier if you attach to your vacuum head then feed the suction line into the pool trying to stay vertical with the wall when it is almost fully submerged you will see water comming out of hose before its fully submerged. plus your vacuum head hose wont be all tangled.
We just had a new liner installed in our 65000 gal inground pool. The reason is because our elete Dolphin robotic vacuum destroyed our previous liner. You mentioned using a robotic one. Our liner was 20 yrs old but now we don't feel safe using the Dolphin Robotic Vzcuum. Please give us your opinion whether to just clean maually or not. The Dolphin was new last year.
Hi Robotic cleaners should not mark up the liner. You can check with the manufacturer and see if it's compatible with liners. I would also check your chlorine levels. High levels can make it easier to damage liners and most importantly it's very bad for our health. You should be between 1ppm and 3ppm but try and keepnit closer to 1ppm

Also, since the pool has jets of water returning, I press the end of the hose into one of those with my hand. The water jet goes into the hose and you can see the bubbles of the air in the hose coming out the other end, where the vacuum head is. Once the air bubbles stop, the hose is full of water, and ready to plug into the skimmer suction. That way you don't put the pump to cavitate sucking air. And dude: Untangle (unroll) that hose before throwing it in the pool!
many watching this video might want to leave some suction on the main drainm to keep the pump from starving for water and burning out.. and turn your multiport valve to waste, which takes the crap you vaccuum up from going through your filter and gunking it up.. or going through it and back into the pool.
The main drain needs to be on for circulation, without that you will have a green pool eventually never fully shut it off you need it, chances are you will lose prime on your pump if you try, you may not it does depend on the system but forgetting to turn the valve can leave you with a green pool
This might be a dumb question. I have just a simple above ground, vinyl lined pool. We have a walnut tree that sprinkles green dust in the pool and we’re looking into buying this vacuum. Won’t it just circulate through if I hook it up to our skimmer basket?
Depends on the fineness of the dust and the type of filter you have. I think even cartridge filters should clean it out. Even more so if you have a DE filter.
Matt, Great video. Our pool (home we bought recently) has two skimmer openings. The openings are threaded. There are no caps to thread in either of the two skimmer openings. Hence, I need to cap off one so I can get suction through the other opening where the vacuum hose will be attached. I will assume that either opening can be used once one or the other is capped. I assume that I can get a replacement cap at a pool supply? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
Ok I agree with you leaving in filter position when vacuuming but a friend who has 10k smaller pool than me said I need to use backwash position when vacuuming pool is this correct??
Yes, to a degree not the backwash or rinse setting you will drain your pool out through the hose or pipe or where ever it goes normally a yard or a clean out, what you're trying to do is bypass the filter all together during vacuum that way your filter don't get clogged as quick, bad filter as well equals green pool
Good advice bro!... just wut I was looking for...one thing tho....u still have some air cuz the hose tip u sunk is at higher level than the vacuum...next time place vacuum above level than hose end to get all air out 😉
What about the setting at the valve? Filtration or waste setting? When I’m opening the pool it’s filthy at the bottom and my pumps skimmer has to be changed every 5 minutes. Wish it held more debris.
Filteration and waste and rinse settings and what not are on DE Filters and Sand Filters and other filters I may not be aware of I live in AZ so thats what we use here, for the skimmer box and main drain pipe find your pump look at the plumbing of it, anything that is in front of the basket aka the front not the back where the motor is at, that pipe is normally the skimmer and drain suction pipe, again this does depend on the setup as every single pool is different, some may have one pipe only most will have 2 or more anything coming from the out on the filter is the return, so if you see pipes in front of the pump, that is suction sections, anything that comes out of the pump is the return
i dont understand why there isnt a cheap electric manual pool cleaner in 2021?!!!i mean seriosly.NOT the robotic expensive ones but a simple electric manual with a handle just like a normal vacuum.ITS that so hard to build???!!!
Hey I vacuum pool and it's clean... after filter runs at night I notice dirt comes right back in the pool, re circulated from, the filter/pump... what can possibly be the cause of this? It is a cartridge filter system
You don't NEED a valve. You pull out the skimmer basket and the ;diverter beneath it - you will see two holes. The center hole is where you insert the vacuum hose.
@@creativepoolsspas2424 maybe, I just got this job, im new at this. Is there like a rule on the way to vacuum, should i do it like I if i was cutting grass? Or randomly vacuum untill I see its decently cleaned? Any tips?
