Kicking off the build documentary and highlighting the manual rack conversion for the Forged Performance Drag R35 Nissan GT-R.
In the never ending pursuit of saving weight and simplifying the car I reached out to our partners at T1 Race Development who supplied the parts necessary to do this manual steering rack conversion. For those of you that have removed your power steering on your R35 GT-R you know that the steering wheel is very difficult to turn at low speeds and is a little too responsive for a car that has slicks on all 4 corners. By switching to this manual drag rack it slows down the ratio by almost double and allows for more car control on the launch when things are most hectic. The driver doesn't have to focus so much on clean precise movements of the steering wheel and can me a little more aggressive in their steering inputs while not disturbing the stability of the car and allowing it to tack more in a straight line.
I had to modify the light weight racing front subframe to properly mount the manual steering rack and take multiple measurements to ensure that the rack was properly mounted in the same location as the OEM R35 GT-R steering rack. This also required extensive modifications to the OEM steering shaft to mate the knuckle to manual rack connection.
