This video shows the experimental software I built which makes it possible to control a 10 Watt laser cutter by drawing on a tablet. What can go wrong? Although I couldn't think of a productive use for it, It turned out to be more fun than I expected! Due to the hazard this comes with and the early development phase of this software I am not going to share it freely. You can contact me directly if you would like to try it out for yourself, but it's at your own risk!
The second halve of the video shows a more productive use in which I make a fitting packaging using packaging. I use the slicer for Fusion360 to make the cardboard slices, but it's also possible to use BlendScript which I don't have experience with.
I've used the Pergear LaserStorm S10 which does a very decent job. I do recommend to add a base place and some fume extraction as I've shown in the video.
Please use my referral link if you want one yourself: amzn.to/3kgX2a2 and you can get $70,- discount plus a $50,- coupon when using the promo code QWMXTKDD
Other interesting options for this laser cutter are the air assist pump: amzn.to/3kgX2a2 and a honeycomb working table amzn.to/3kgX2a2 Disclaimer though: I don't have experience with these two products.
I also recommend using better safety goggles, these are ones I used jtechphotonics.com/?product=l...

To better deal with the smoke, get an aluminium honeycomb bed and vacuum from underneath (vacuuming from the back and the sides also helps). To get better laser performance, make an air assist (normally DIY is with an aquarium pump). It also helps in keeping the lens clean. If you're using LightBurn, you can add an webcam for precision engraving.

I suggest you try using the sheet metal function of fusion to create a foldable cardboard insert to cradle the extruder. Then convert that into flat pattern and export that DXF for your laser. Will be much less cardboard waste, faster production and cheaper because of both previous reasons.

If that's a true 10W output then you have a tool that is very versatile. A 20W 🤯😱 quad diode just hit the market. I didn't see it mentioned in the video, but it looks like you may have done "a bit" of research on laser cutting/engraving. May I suggest checking out Laser Everything and The Louisiana Hobby Guy for more tips and ideas? So can you cut 3D printed SLA resin with your laser? Then you could laser mark or post process parts.....like serialization or automated support removal. THAT would be sweet! Industrially, if you could automatically remove supports, that is worth money.
@properprinting
@properprinting 2 года назад
That'd be interesting, I have no idea how well that'd work. I have to investigate if there'll be any toxic fumes coming off though
@SeanTaffert
@SeanTaffert 2 года назад
@@properprinting If toxic fumes are the issue, then just cracking the seal of the resin bottle should be an issue too. I'm SURE there will be some nasty stuff from laser burning SLA resin... laser your name into a cabbage and tell me how that smells.
@properprinting
@properprinting 2 года назад
@@SeanTaffert I have to disagree on that one. Burning materials can release toxic fumes, PVC is a prime example of that. I'm not a chemist, but I'd not assume that something is safe to cut with a laser.
@mduckernz
@mduckernz 2 года назад
@@properprinting You are absolutely right about that. Heating materials to decomposition is effectively performing very dirty chemistry and can result in all sorts of very unusual products that may be super toxic. Especially so if you are burning with high frequency light like these diode lasers tend to as photochemistry also makes for even more unusual products!

Gcode G28 homes X Y and Z. i guess you are missing the Z axis (or homing switch for that matter). Recently had the same problem, I didn't want to change the gcode so I just shorted the z switch signal.
@properprinting

@@properprinting G28 should home. "virtual home" can be set with G92. if you want to go back to here (after moving) a G0 or G1 will take you there. But if you use a G28 afterwards it should go back to machine home. or marlin uses some G commands different?
