Manufacturer has BIG problems with these engine parts & could cost THOUSANDS! 

Why not re-clock the pressure plate and drill holes in proper position?

If it's at all possible, you'd be better off drilling new mounting holes on the flywheel to mount the clutch cover, keeping it all on center, of course. Just my opinion. Nice work, guys 👍👍👍

If the pressure plate isnt central, theres gonna be allsorts of issues, either scrap the flywheel or Redrill the holes. Pressure plates are usually on dowels for a reason, n it aint just about balance

As others have said having the pressure plate running off centre will be a disaster.

Redrill a set of holes in the flywheel, on-centre.

NOPE on the pressure plate "re-balance" scheme. You MUST have a dead-center contact to the release bearing, or you'll induce a horrible screeching noise from the fingers-to-pad surfaces, despite how you may lubricate them. Ask me how I know! Drill new holes or scrap 'em.

So those flywheels..I assume they are haviong them custom made to take a VW clutch and bolt up to a Subaru crank. If thaat is the case, they need to have a word with whoever made them to put the holes in the right place!

You could scribe the flywheel for the perfect center for the clutch, rotate the clutch 30 degrees (assuming it has 6 holes, adapt if different number of holes to end up in the middle between the old holes) and drill and tap new holes. Fill the old ones up with epoxy and you should be good?

@ 4:50 Why cant you just clock the clutch cover a few degrees, then mark, drill and tap new holes so that it is centered on the flywheel?

Do the flywheels properly and re drill and tap fresh holes and dowels in the right place,or throw them back to the customer to reject them back to their supplier,lashing things pretty much always comes back to bite you.

Why don’t you just drill new holes in the pressure plate?

Take the flywheels to an engineer who can drill and tap the holes concentric to the bore. Bodging it is not going to be any good.

Very interesting range of content in the video. Came across a M 13 x 1.5 thread only once before myself on a drive coupling for an alternator and dynamo tester, closest taps and dies I had to it was 1/4 BSPP which when you compare it to metric is 13.15 diameter by 1.33 pitch, I made the drive using the 1/4 BSPP and it worked, not ideal but after roughly 14 years use its still working.

Cheers Lee, on your Clutch Cover just index it centre with new holes and screw blanks into the old holes then balance. Some older Engines used to have balance strips on the Clutch covers if not out too much.

The engine with the dodgy block face is the DW10 Peugeot Citroen 2.0 and also used in Mondeo and Volvo, it's not the Puma which is the 2.2/2.4 with chain drive and tin timing cover powering Boxers, Relays and most rattley builders transits 😁👍 the panther is the ecoblue wet belt Ford 2.0 in transits rangers etc 👍 I know which one I'd sooner be working on 🤣

Surely pitching the new holes etc around 10 to 15 degrees away from the existing would leave the new holes in new metal to use (nowhere near the existing holes) Or am I missing something??

I don't know if you have the equipment to do it but could new new clutch holes be drilled centered properly on the flywheels? You could fill the old holes with ground off old bolts and that would make up for missing weight so they could be balanced again with little trouble.

You can't do that with those clutches. They will always judder. Plug the holes up...center the cover up on the flywheel and dowel with new offset bolts. Leaving it like that will tear the friction material up. Basic engineering this.

And that ingenium block and section of liner is why I don't like dry liners how can you guarantee that 100% of the liner is in contact with the block because if it isn't it will make hot spots.

Question: In the UK is "going up" to a place, the same as going north? Or can "going up to London" mean going south to London, from the town where you are based?

Funny situation with the clutches... has the customer just accepted they were made wrong and commissioned you to report and repair ? This needs to be fed back to the supplier for process and quality correction... hope the customer got a full refund !

Two wrongs don't make a right. Those flywheels need drilling and tapping correctly and the old holes plugging.

Where's the integrity gone? A eccentric pressure plate is going to cause an issue, no matter how good it's balanced. Those flywheels are scrap, either take the consult fee to let the customer the problem or charge accordingly if you can fix it. Letting the problem out the door is a bad look, as though you're after a quick buck.

I used to drill the clutch cover bolt holes to 14mm as that was the size of a tungsten hole punch i had . Then get some steel plate , drill 8mm holes in it and use the punch with the bearing press to make filling washers with off centre holes . Bolt the problematic cover onto the flywheel and centre it. Tac weld the washers , take it off , finish the welds and dress it . This would also work for the non centred thread issue here . It was amazing how smooth the engines were above 4000rpm

Well this a major concern, BMW, Mercedes, and all the Other are buy crapp parts from China, the Oil Pumps take out an engine within 80K, whereas they used last 330k back in the 80s.
