hey Zach and Chris, good to show the safety aspect in a video from experience and not from paper. What I haven't heard and it is important, if you work in or under a piece of equipment, always remove the key and put it in your pocket. This means that someone else can never accidentally start, activate or drive away with the piece of equipment. A small effort that comes with a lot of safety in return. The one thing zack didn't mention is ALWAYS remember H2S is heaver than air so when you open that fan door DO NOT BEND OVER and place your head down by that door because where is that door located the very lowest point .but other than that great vidio . I should say I work in the oilfields for 15 yrs so I'm very educated in H2S it's nothing to take for granted

This is a good video, and a lot of things that I think a lot of farmers and workers would benefit from to watch, a lot of these things are applicable to farmers all over the world, especially the safety with going into a tank or similar

I've done hauling shit & haulage for over 30 years it needed a refresher I have forgotten so always the short cut THANK YOU

Awesome information Chris ive hauled and spread liquid manure never realized how dangerous it is. I pulled a calf from the pit once and never thought that the fumes could kill me. Washed out our tank never thinking about the fumes inside when i went in. Thanks Chris have a good day.

I'm in the septic business.We deal with hydrogen sulfide but not as often as manure haulers.Cleaning out septic tanks that haven't been cleaned for years. I had a septic tank with a frozen lid.I heated the cover with a propane torch hooked to a 20 lb tank. Blew the cover twenty feet in the air and burnt my eyebrows.Now I pour water on a frozen cover and heat that,so flames don't ignite the tank when cover pops loose.The wingnuts on my manholes.I keep greased.They sell a wingnut with threaded stud eye bolt that has grease fittings.Easier to maintain.

Great video, thanks to Newton Ag and everyone involved, I was wondering if there was a safety program for you guys. All of the safety devices are great, the only thing I can think of maybe adding is wheel chocks if you have to work under the tilt frame along with those frame stands but if your in a field and its soft if the truck actually starts rolling it may push the wheel chocks in the ground so they would have to be a decent size but then that makes them harder to store on the truck. Nobody is ever too old to learn.

I've worked for utlx going in and out of tankcars for 40 plus yrs seen nitrogen blankets and hydrogen sulfide gas kill a lot of people in the industry it can happen so easily I was not happy when u cleaned your tank duffy. I'm glad you were at thistheres so many verables to tank entry and confined spaces. Let alone rescue

Safety is so important even in such a stickin job like handling and operating manure equipment. Zach showed several items I didn't know about and will dig in to. I know they cost $$$$, but I hope you invest in one of those oxygen meters duffy. Might save you or one of your helpers life.

Can never be safe enough around slurry, one aspect i would like to highlight is the initial agitation of the slurry in the pit. What was safe years ago, is now not safe because of higher horsepower tractors. I, in the late 1970s as young lad would give an entire Saturday morning mixing a slurry pit 60' x70' feet with a 70hp tractor. Any gas that came off the slurry had time to escape and dissipate. Now my nephews can mix this same pit in less than 30 minutes with a better adgitator and 250 pto hp. The affect of this is the same quantity of gas is realeased over a shorter time and the plume of gas has a higher concentration, with the result it can be lethal to people/ livestock further away downwind from the agitation pit. Thats my tuppence worth on slurry, keep up the videos, Chris

One important thing to remember when using a multi gas meters with a pump and sampling hose. You need to wait a strong second per foot of hose for the air sample to get to the meter before the meter can get a reading. Example, if your hose is 8', wait 8-10 seconds. Biggist mistake people make is take a reading, take a reading, take a reading and find no change. The air from the first reading has not had a chance to get to the meter yet. Take you time. Second mistake, let the meter fresh air clear before taking your next reading or shutting it off.

Don't forget the h2s and O2 meters have to calibrated routinely, possibly monthly! If it is not within the calibration date it may not give a true reading.

Great video. Is there an option to weld some heady duty “D” rings on the rear of the frame and to rear of the dump bed. Then use a heavy duty chain to secure the bed to the frame. I see them used on off road dump trucks when there doing same type maintenance under the dump bed.

We've had the yellow style of the dump bed jacks at our shop for quite a few years. You just need to bump the release cable and that could be the end of you. Building vs buying a quality safety Jack it will more than likely be certified.

A greaseless plate that goes between the fifth wheel and the plate on the trailer I pull a live bottom trailer grossing 117,000 every day full of blacktop and we going to corners and when you don't disconnect the truck from the trailer it's hard to grease the fifth wheel I put the plate on 2 years ago and I have not had a problem yet

So you can walk around the back just walk out far enough to be in the safe zone. Nobody mentioned that. You can go around a shorter way by going around back just make sure your at least 10’ away from the back of the truck box gate. It’s shorter and faster than going around the front and you are still safe.

Hey I can also tell you that you can remove the handle from your hoe and weld a piece of electrical conduit or any lightweight. Steel to it for a handle to make it 8’ 10’ 12’ and length you want to make your clean out hoe. I have a steel straight rake with a 9’ electrical conduit handle that I used for concrete and dirt work that I never broke the handle now I bent it several times and as long as you don’t link it you can gently bend it right back.

The large farm i help, they don't use sand because of plugging problems and it wares stuff out too fast. They also now use H and S live bottom silage bodies, me not knowing much and thinking they were slow like the front unloads, and a dump body would be faster! Boy was i wrong, dump is so slow and dangerous! Their manure tankers have no man holes in them, in my time there have not heard of any reason to get in them anyway! But we do need class on hooking up trailers properly!

I live in Alberta Canada fuck Trudeau, but H2 us is a instant killer. I’m sure if he googles and research he can find cheaper gas sniffers that you can actually wear on your chest. It’s up to you to research it and you can get plenty of them for way cheaper than what he saying that $1500 US. Your buddy is doing a really bad job off the pinchpoints on a hoisted dump truck or a green truck or a whatever this is where I go wrong with him because this it’s so simple to solve the pinpoint and he missed it. Trust me I got over 35 years of experience to run heavy equipment, and around all kinds of potential tragedies, which I prevented , just because I was paying attention
