After searching tirelessly, I finally found the information I needed about the pedal on the Ludwig Universals. Thank you for the detailed description! Most videos are of newer or professional models - us band directors don't have that stuff at our middle schools!!! Thank you for the practical and very useful information!!!
Your channel is criminally underrated! I just got some cheap Ludwig Universals but they are definitely fixer-uppers. All of your videos are super helpful and are going to be super helpful in the near future! Thank you so much for making these videos!
Right to keep the pedal from jumping down in pitch, left to keep the pedal from jumping up in pitch. Only do this after balancing and tuning the heads, making sure they are in the proper range. Pro tip-it’s easier to turn the knob to the right if the pedal is set to the highest pitch, rather than the lowest pitch.
Generally during a repair, I keep the drum at its lowest pitch. This aids in removing heads, if needed, and at the least removes tension from the head.
Setting a 32” to a low C, especially a high quality drum, with a good head, and especially extended collar, will be fine. I’ve seen references to 30” drums, regular collar, set to C. I think the C# or D fundamental recommendation comes from the most common usage, not necessarily a hard design limit. That said, lower than a C gets really “flappy” on a 32”.
Have you tried making sure the fundamental pitch is correctly tuned? That’s a great first step. If you just bought the instrument, make sure to spend some time with the owner’s manual. I hope this helps!
@@McCaffertyPercussion Yes i already tuned it right and that was the moment all problems begann, because it was tuned a quinte to low. Unfortunately i didn’t buy it just now, the instruments are at least 15 years old.
@@danielgrenda38 what are your bowl sizes, and what do you have the fundamentals tuned to? Have you changed the drum heads to new heads? What model are the drums?
@@McCaffertyPercussionthey are 26‘‘ and 29‘‘ and i tuned them to E and A. I would love to change the heads to the Adams Renaissance Heads but my School doesn’t have the money right now to buy new ones, because if we change them we will also change the heads of the 23‘‘ and the 32‘‘.
