Property value reassessments by the county. Here in Florida, loss of homestead exemption or change in title triggers a reassessment. I bought an investment property in 2022, tax increased $3200 from previous bill. There’s a law that prevents a yearly increase of more than 3% in the house you live in. Many places in the country are taxing owners out of their homes. We need to get rid of property taxes.

This is just not happening in Chicago, IL. It’s happening nationwide. FL home property taxes are also super high. The year I see these property rates will be shocking and I’ll have to assess whether I can afford it and what my options are, including the sale of my home. Who can afford these stupid property taxes? The rich, of course. The rich will live comfortably and the rest will get poorer. Very sad.

If you're concerned about homelessness, why are you preventing people from being able to afford living in a home? "Illegal" immigrants are not entitled to free benefits, housing, etc. You have to have a Social Security number in order to do that and you have to be a citizen. If non-profits want to provide them with housing, clothing, food, that's charity, not tax-payer dollars.

The South Suburbs are paying for the business property's taxes--AGAIN. But some of the assessments were way off to begin with. My house that was assessed at $95K, was reduced by the Assessor's office on appeal to $81K. Then the Board of Review lowered it on appeal to $71K. Now I wait to hear from the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board, and they were supplied with the offer I got when trying to flee Illinois of $55K. Right now I'm stuck with the tax bill based on $71K. The Illinois property tax system is broken, and all our so-called 'leaders' on both sides of the aisle can't get a plan together to fix it.

It happened in California back in the mid-1970's... property taxes going up astronomically with very weak justifications for doing so. So, the citizens put a measure on the ballot, "Proposition 13", to set property taxes at a reasonable rate, to prevent property taxes from increasing more than 2% each year, and (most importantly) to make sure that various government bodies had to seriously budget their spending instead of simply going to the assessors to demand higher tax revenue. School districts, public transportation services, and government agencies fought fiercely against it. Yet, Proposition 13 passed, ostensibly because proposed property tax assessments were leaked to the press a couple of months before the election...probably by a county worker who saw how highly his\her own property tax was going to increase. Californians simply had enough. They suffered losses of automobile plants, military bases, and lots of smokestack industry. There was certainly a decrease in business tax revenue, and there still is with all the "tax incentive development district" deals handed out to entice companies to build . Yet, despite the passage of Proposition 13, California has since grown to become the world's 5th-largest economy. Expecting homeowners to bear the brunt of government budgets is not sustainable. Homeowners will fight back; even the laid-back hippies of lore in California got tired of it.

This is what happens when you have no policing cities. When the local landowners do not care who the leaders are. Not supporting stiffer crimes leads to companies leaving these small towns. The old will need help to afford the high taxes.
We had ours done last year and my taxes went up almost 2000.00. It's your turn. Government needs more money to pay their employees. Government raises across the board.
