It's sad to see any track go. We had lost our home track, the famed Moc-A-Tek Speedway, back in 2004. For anybody that grows up at a certain track and then lives to see it close for ever It truly feels like loosing a member of your family or close friend. As Robin miller said, a piece of you dies on that fateful day.
@1:52 Don Brown emerging from Hank Arnold's (RIP) Mighty "Twister." IMO The "Twister" is the 'Most Beautiful Race Car of all Time.' The sound of the 4-71 Roots Type Blower on Hank's own 327 cu. in. High Revving Small Block Chevy Engine racing down Manzy's back stretch was a symphony of beautiful racing sounds that I'll never forget. The "Twister" has been on display at the 'Sprint Car Hall of Fame' in Knoxville, Iowa as well as Hank's HoF plate hanging along side of the many 'All Time Great' Sprint Car Racers. So much to say here but I'll wind it up with 1. Thanks Don for keeping Hank Arnold's Legend alive by your tireless efforts to restore and maintain the "Twister" in the perfect shape that it deservers to be in. 2. Fare well to Manzanita Park/Speedway. One of the Greatest Dirt 1/2 Mile Race Tracks in The United states. And, last but not least. 3. Farewell to The Great Windy McDonald. He was to me and 10's of Thousands of Arizona Racing Fans "The heart and soul of Manzanita." And one of, if not the, BEST RACING ANNOUNCERS of ALL Time!!! Fourteen Years later and it still breaks my heart when I think about what they did to this Historic Facility.
My Father Carl Muldner raced the first race there and won the Consi. All of our family raced there, I raced and won the last TT race and I also raced many street stock races also, My sister, ante, two Uncles, one brother and sister. We all miss Manzy so much....
Ran my 70 Monte Carlo bomber at Manzanita after the track closed where Bondurant has his driving school now in Chandler. Special thanks go out to Larry W. and Fuzzy Herman from all Chevy Auto for helping me build the car.
same here man, pure BS. Every so often i go onto google earth to see how far gone it is, and it kills me to see turn 3-4 completely gone. turned into a dirt parking lot.
Southwest Towing purchase the land and built a BIG yard and shop there. Its a great company and has set many records with some of there gigantic loads they have hauled.
Not to mention; "Super Tex" A.J. Foyt, the entire Unser family, Mario Andretti, "Lone Star J.R." Leland McSpadden (HoF), "Tiger" Gene Brown, Billy and Ronny Schuman, Steve Kinser and this list is seemingly endless! "The Great" Robin Miller was correct (as he usually was) when he said losing your home track is like a little part of you dying. I feel it's like the death of a good friend that I've had all my life.
