An amazing flight from the Map of Africa to the Outenikwa mountains (and back). A day of light lift making for lots of thermaling but satisfying lift line seeking lucked me into an awesome flight. :))
Yes and yes and yes on all three accounts. :) But the mountain launches are difficult to get to so we are all spoilt for the ease of access near the coast not to mention all the great restaurants and coffee shops near by! lol ;) The local distance record was flown on a PG from Serpentine (I pass over that spot around the 40s mark in the video) and is around 100 miles along the mountains to the west. You can do it in a hangie but the many areas with lack of landing spots makes it un attractive option to the hangies but for the PG's its fine. This is a PG flight I did from one of the mountain launches we have here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zvKJyn-g5TI.html :)
What a great HG video :) How does this glider compare to a WW T3 or Sport 3 ? I've only flown a falcon 4 and sport 3. Could this same flight be accomplished with a ww sport 3?
Thanks for the compliment on the video. :) I dont think you would have done this on a S3.., maybe a T3 though the Atos is def better performing than a T3 (sink rate and glide) - the T3 on the other hand is much faster. (The Atos VNE is 90kph) this has to do with the rigid nature of wings versus the loadshedding capabilities of flex wings. ;)
