Thank you so much! After spending hours watching other videos and trying to figure this out, your explanation was simple and helped me set up my custom url! Thank you again!
The logic behind google making it so dam complicated to set up is annoying I won't be recommending to anyone. Thanks for the straight forward instructions.
Hello. I can direct the custom URL to the Google Site URL, but it doesn't mask the name. When I click the custom URL, it takes me to the correct Google site but keeps the Google Site URL. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
I'm running into a problem at Step 3. I get the following text as an error: "Unable to check custom URL. Retry" I've created a CNAME record in GoDaddy as well as attempted to create a txt record under the main domain with the txt verification code. Additionally, I've tried adding Google Analytics to this site and verifying that way... I cannot verify the subdomain. It is hosted via GoDaddy and the main site is a WordPress site. However, I'm creating a Google Site for the Intranet. How do I verify my subdomain (main domain is verified) and how do I add the custom url?
Are you using a personal Google Site? If so see www.steegle.com/google-sites/how-to/assign-custom-url-domain-personal If you are using Google Workspace you don't need to verify as you will have already verified for Google Workspace. What's your sites.google and domain?
The new version of Google Sites does not offer these features and you don't really need them. Please make sure you send feedback to Google ( www.steegle.com/google-sites/how-to/send-feedback ) to make your feature requests and bug reports.
I have a question about my use case. I have a fully developed public-facing site. It is hosted on Bluehost and the DNS provider is Go Daddy. I don't want to change the top-level/primary domain to go to a google site. I want to continue hosting as it is. What I am trying to do is to have the Google site just be a sub-domain for my currently hosted site on Bluehost. Is it possible to do this with just a sub-domain while maintaining my current site? Is this possible? If not, would I need to just transfer my domain to Google Domains? THANK YOU for all the help!
Yes this is exactly what these instructions are for, but instead of seeing the URL to www. use whatever subdomain you want to use. If you. DO NOT use Google Workspace then see the other video.
Hey, Thanks a lot, you made it easy. I do appreciate it. But I still have a question. I created 3 different google sites or pages that are about the same topic. can I add these 3 pages to a main or to a single domain name?
@@Steegle Thanks for your prompt reply. I appreciate it. I meant that my sites are separate But deal with the main topic. - sites.google.com/view/top-health-supplements - sites.google.com/view/easy-diabetes-freedom - sites.google.com/view/healtheasyenhancement here are the links. and need to mape them to a single domaine Thaks in advance for your help.
@@heartakershopblues3740 no you cannot have a single subdomain pointing to separate sites: if you want them all on one subdomain then put all the pages on one site. You can have them on separate subdomains, e.g. sub1.example.com to one of the sites then sub2.example.com to another site. I don't know why you have decided to put these in separate sites as it sounds like they should all be on one site.
We have two other videos that show this process (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QOLxPWOGYWs.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iN2hwnObkJA.html) so you can find them there, but as a Google Workspace admin you will have already added DNS records to get Google Workspace operational, so there should be no need to show a Google Workspace admin how to do this.
Correct: this video is for Google Sites in Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) to add a custom URL; if you are not using Google Workspace then follow the steps in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QOLxPWOGYWs.html
Thanks a lot for this - super useful. Is there a way that the address in the top bar remains as the custom URL rather than going back to the sites.google url? I have seen other google sites that seem to have this function, and it looks way more professional. Thanks in advance!
The only time your site URL will revert to sites.google.com is if you have set the site to be private (if you do want your site to be private this is the intended behaviour). Make your site public and the custom URL will remain.
upon adding my published site url I get invalid address. don't I have deleted the and the /home. The weird thing is my published site has the prefix /view in the url. .. any hint? thanks
That means you're using a Personal Google Site not a Google Workspace Google site. Follow these steps instead: www.steegle.com/google-sites/how-to/assign-custom-url-domain-personal
I agree. I don't know why Google doesn't have an easy tutorial about how to do this on their site. Their help article does not talk about where to find the settings. It shouldn't be hidden behind 3 menus! Thanks so much for your help. You should submit tutorials to Google and work for them!
When i get to 1:45 in the video, it only provides one of my domains, but i want to use my other domains. both domains are verified. why is it not showing the other domain name?
Sorry fro the delay in response: the site needs to be created by an account that uses that domain as its sign in. You can temporarily rename an account to use the domain and make a copy of the site while the account uses that domain as its sign in, then the copied site will be able to use that domain as its custom URL.
No this is not out of date at all: Google Workspace has not changed any of the process. Are you, in fact, trying to add a custom URL to a personal Google Site? If so then you're watching the wrong video - see: www.steegle.com/google-sites/how-to/assign-custom-url-domain-personal
THANK YOU. I'm some what computer savvy but this whole thing was a nightmare. I was stuck on adding my custom URL part for 4 hours trying to find answers. I deleted the HTTPS portion so many times.
Kindly please help me with my query. I have already created a Google sites through my personal gmail account and have published it. Then I have purchased the custom url and have mapped sites.google.com/mywebsitename to www.mywebsitename.com. Now I want to switch from personal gmail account to G-Workplace. 1. Can able to follow the same steps shown in this video? 2. Will there will be any issue? Since now I have www.mywebsitename.com hosted on my personal gmail account aswell in G-Workplace 3. Where my site be hosted after the above steps on my personal gmail account or G-Workplace 4. If I need add any document or sheet to Google site- where should my document or sheet be created - on my personal gmail account or G-Workplace? 5. Does make sense for me to do the transition or I have create a G-Workplace and create a new Google sites there?
If you want to use Google Workspace for your site you need to move the site into Google Workspace (you can do this via a Shared Drive or simply copying the site with your Google Workplace account - for more details see: www.steegle.com/google-sites/how-to/transfer-ownership). Once you have the site in your Google Workspace then you can follow the steps in this video.
Hi, Thanks for the informative video. I have one question, when i tried using my custom url, it gives an error saying the url is already taken, Is it because i have a business website setup in the purchased domain? If so, how can overcome this issue?
We use Google Domains that offers free http AND https top-level/naked domain redirection to our www address, so we use Google Domains' synthetic records for this. In general if your domain provider doesn't offer this you can add an A record of @ (or your naked domain) that points to 174.129.25.170 (a free service from wwwizer.com).
No Google Sites does not give any way to do this apart from having two completely separate sites. Google offers Google Translate built in to Chrome so is trying to rely on that but not everyone uses Chrome obviously.
Steegle.com Thanks for the reply! I was able to find this: support.google.com/sites/thread/3575321 But not really sure how to go about executing it all... Would it be possible to have some help? It would be SO appreciated!
