Very detailed video! But i have a problem with my 1.6 Golf 4 AUS engine. The torx screw got broken on the MAP sensor, so it wont screw out. What am i supposed to do now? Im pretty sure the sensor is cloged up
great vid as always helpfull. I have to ask something way off the topic. I own polo 1.4 16v the vaccum line from the fuel pressure regulator was cracked so i replaced it. But i noticed something bigger as the engine was working the temp was 90 cles. which is normal but the valve cover and the body of the distributor was damn hot i guess the distributor is gettin hot cause its attached to the engine block.... is that normal thing.

hi. a dirty or faulty MAP sensor can affect the fuel consumption, but it should have other symptoms too, lack of power, fluctuating idle. if you have just the check engine light and a bit mode fuel consumed, I think is something else, O2 sensors, catalytic converter, EGR valve, injectors. the best way is to diagnose it with a vcds interface, to know for sure, where the check engine indicator is coming from.
@@stabileseitenlage It's not late at all my friend, I was wondering if that map sensor could be the cause of the EPC light flashing sometimes and also the lack of power, and that fuel smell when idle. Looks like you answered me, thanks dude!
@@lecobra418 Glad it helped! I am unsure if you can reach it while the engine is turned on, but a way to check if it is still used by the ecu is to unplug it. The engine should react by running rough for a second.
@@stabileseitenlage I think I'll just clean it, I'm pretty sure it must be clogged up pretty bad, there are too many symptoms pointing to that piece of equipment being faulty. I'll clean it this week and I'll post an update for people to know whether the problem is solved or not.

hello, do you know what could be the reason for the car jerking when you take off and put on the gas? This is not a single jerk, but several jerks, the tachometer shows that at this moment the rpm jumping, this problem is minimalized when we let gas off at about 3K rpm, then engine braking is a bit smoother. Sometimes the rpm are unstable on cold engine... Engine 1.4 16V AUA. Greetings.
Hello. you probably have misfires. you should use a VCDS diagnostic tool to check the errors and what cylinder has misfires. I think you need to change the spark plugs.
@@Sorin_DIY_Mechanical_Nerd spark plugs was changed (NGK) few months ago :/ Ignition wires are rather good, because in the night no spark visible after spraying water... Every 200km lights on check engine with code P0171 or P0420 :/ No one can diagnose what is the cause :(

hi. it is still a good car, even if it's an old model. but you need to test it thoroughly. if it had an big accident, don't buy it. especially if you can see the repair, and it was not done 100% correctly. these are some of the signs, for which a car was abused, or not been cared for: lack of power, strange noises in the engine, noises from the suspension on bumps or potholes, damaged cover of the steering wheel and shifter knob. a car history check it's recommended. spare parts are very easy to find, original and aftermarket. it shares the mechanical parts with vw golf4, skoda oktavia1, audi a3 8l.

Hello sorin ! this is completely unrelated but I don't know anyone who knows more about this car than you do. Do you happen to know where is the ICV (Idle control valve) or IAC (Idle air control) valve in this car.
hi. this engine doesn't have an idle control valve. the engine idle speed is controlled by the throttle body. it's a drive-by-wire system, so the ECU can control the throttle body with very high precision.
Do you know what is that type (1:40) of screws? I've just stripped one of mine, and need to buy some replacement. I think it's something like M5x22 but I have to be sure.
Hello, I own an Audi A3 2.0TDI 2006 year. After a complete engine rebuild my cars started to hiccup(jerk, jump) on half gas pedal (1900-2400rpm). No error codes, no smoke, new EGR, all moving part inside and outside the engine are replaced with new. All is tight and in its place, but the cars still hiccups. Soo could my problem bee a dirty MAF and MAP sensor?? Could these two sensors cause the whole car to hiccup for 2sec....
hi. you should have just one of those two sensors, probably the MAP sensor. you can try to clean it, it may be dirty and clogged. if it's faulty, you should have some errors for it. but when the engine is shaking, there is usually an imbalance between the cylinders, or a misfire. you should test the injectors with vcds, at different revs, to see if they are balanced. and you can try a compression test.
Sorin - DIY Mechanical Nerd Problem solved. EGR issues even if it was completley new. I discconected the EGR el.plug and the car drives like a dream. Will try with another one (also new) if the hiccup happens again then I'll remove it completley. Thanks for your advices and sugesstions, cheers mate :))
Instead of cleaning it I changed it completely for £40, but this didn't fix it. The throttle body needed to be removed and cleaned separately off the car. This fixed it.
Ah ok thanks have already cleaned the throttle body the other day off the car, but its not sorted it, so this was going to be my next step. Not sure whether to still go for it or not.
Its hard to tell if the combination of the two is what ultimately fixed it or not. Thats why I bought another one rather than cleaning the existing one as it was quite cheap, plus I didn't want to do it twice or not know if it was completely broken or not after cleaning it.
@@jamesmacintyre forgot to ask originally, when your revs were bouncing were the revs dropping quite low and threatening to stall? I've still not sorted mine because been finding that having air con on forces revs up which seems to stop the issue, but with it getting colder isn't going to be an option, so I will still look to do this. salut. eu nu am umblat niciodata la senzorul de ulei. insa am discutat cu mai multe persoane care au avut probleme similare si era senzorul de ulei de vina. in cazul tau nu imi dau seama care e problema, poate fi oricare din cele 2. eu as incerca insa mai intai cu alt senzor de ulei.
salut. scrumiera are un bec. trebuie sa o scoti din bord, e prinsa intr-un surub si are o mufa. becul e prins de mufa scrumierei. sunt 2 cleme mici in plasticul portocaliu, de care este blocata partea de metal a mufei. le largesti si scoti partea de tabla a mufei prin fata scrumierei. apoi scoti si plasticul portocaliu, de el e prins becul intr-o clema neagra. e cam greu de explicat fara sa iti arat...
hi. fluctuating idling, lack of power, poor fuel consumption, higher emission levels. in some cases the engine doesn't have fluctuations when idling, the engine will run smoothly, but it has the other problems.
@@Sorin_DIY_Mechanical_Nerd thanks for the quick reply mate. i cleaned mine (no CEL but hesitates). while hesitation is still there, my automatic gear changes/responds much better. is this a coincidence? the map sensor wasn't really dirty. i also sprayed some contact cleaners on the sockets (MAP, TPS, IAC)
Salut sorin am un seat leon an 2003 cupra 1.9tdi cod motor alr si zilele trecute dupa o acceletare mai puternica in treapta intai am simtit o pierdere de putere in mers acceleram motorul se tureaza dar masina parca sta pe loc dupa cativa km am oprit motorul si masina a mers din nou bine pana acasa aproximativ 15 km nu am mai mers cu ia de atunci .(mentionez ca nu am nici un martor aprins in bord motorul merge si porneste normal) ma poti ajuta cu un sfat ce poate fi ? E prima data cand face asa .multumesc anticipat
I used brake cleaner my selfe, and it worked perfectly fine. That, how ever, is of course no guarantee that it is completely without issues, I really wouldn't know, but a friend of mine (who is an chemical engineer) told me that it's basicly the same thing in both cans.

salut. e acelasi motor ca al meu. pot fi multe variante, trebuie sa faci o diagnoza auto, sa vezi ce piesa iti da eroare. altfel putem doar sa impartim cateva pareri. poti sa incerci sa cureti EGR-ul, apoi ulterior sa il blochezi, sa vezi daca e vreo diferenta. poate fi problema cu senzorul de presiune aer, bujii, sondele lambda, injectoare, poate trage aer fals pe undeva. toate acestea ajuta la calcularea amestecului de aer+benzina, care la tine se pare ca e incorect (mai putin bujiile, care pot doar sa fie imbatranite).
Salut aceași problema o am si eu am fost la un test....mia zis ca trage aer fals pe undeva.....dar nu stiu pe unde ar putea trage.....la.mine o data pe saptamana se aprinde EPC si sonda ...si nu se mai tureaza la 10 porniri revine la normal....mulțumesc
Nu prea e de curatat la MAP, la MAF se curata ori filmul ori firul pentru ca se depun particule de praf/ulei etc. MAP-ul functioneaza pe principiul diferentei de tensiune creata de un potentiometru care e atasat la o membrana. Cand se creeaza vacum in admisie membrana e trasa de vacuum, potentiometrul e si el "tras" de membrana si se creeaza diferenta de tensiune in functie de vacuum-ul din admisie. Acolo e totul etans, dincolo de membrana nu patrunde nimic, deci e inutil sa crezi ca o curatare ar imbunatatii ceva. MAP-urile cand incep sa dea valori gresite se schimba, curatatul e inutil. La MAF e altceva..

hi. diesel engines have an air sensor as well. most likely you have a mass air flow (MAF) sensor between the engine air filter and the throttle body. you can check it and clean it if necessary.
salut. ambele fac aproximativ acelasi lucru, masoara cantitatea de aer care intra in motor. motorul tau are ori senzor de presiune aer (MAP) ori debitmetru (MAF). senzorul MAP (manifold absolute pressure sensor) este montat pe galeria de admisie si masoara presiunea aerului din galerie. in functie de aceasta masuratoare computerul de bord stie cat aer urmeaza sa intre in motor si calculeaza cat combustibil sa injecteze. senzorul MAF (mass air flow sensor) e montat intre filtrul de aer si clapeta de acceleratie si masoara debitul de aer care urmeaza sa intre in motor.
Ok. Ms. Cred ca eu am senzorul MAP. Daca nu te deranjez prea tare as vrea sa te mai intreb daca mufa electrica unui astfel de senzor poate fi curata cu vreun spray sau pot aparea pb daca se pulverizeaza cu spary pe ea.
"Air Sensor Cleaner" I don't get it ! If you buy a special cleaner for each particular bolt on your car, you will soon have no more room on your shelf and no more money in your pocket ! I usually use cleaning spirit for almost anything that need to be cleaned, exept my dishes of course ! 😄 And I put it in a can with a large lid, for cleaning small parts. So I can use it many times.
Eu l-am curatat cu alcool tehnic intr-un recipient cu pulverizator, s-a curatat bine, dar nu am vazut vreo diferență, consumul e la fel, iar oscilatiile la cald tot mai apar...
salut. variatiile la relanti pot sa apara si din alte motive. in clipul meu senzorul nu este foarte murdar. senzorul e afectat atunci cand are pe el un strat gros de mizerie, de pana la cativa mm. insa e bine totusi preventiv sa il curatam. mai sunt si alte lucrari de intretinere a motorului, pe care nu prea le facem la timp. de ex schimbare ulei in cutia de viteze, lichid de frana, lichid servodirectie, bujii de calitate, ulei de motor si filtre schimbate la timp, curatare clapeta de acceleratie + egr (verificare daca egr da eroare). si unele din acestea pot sa produca variatii la relanti.
Sorin - DIY Mechanical Nerd eu am schimbat senzorul şi egr-ul în același timp acum 1 luna şi l-am pus pe mecanic să îmi cureţe clapeta de accelerație şi nu cred că a adaptat-o dupaia căci la viteze mici simt cum se "înfundă" sau ceva de genul deci nu merge normal ,de la ce poate fi şti cumva ?
cand se decalibreaza clapeta de acceleratie ai urmatoarele simptome: motorul sta mai turat la relanti / dupa ce se incalzeste variaza mult la relanti / cand iei piciorul de pe acceleratie, turatia scade brusc de zici ca se opreste motorul / cateodata se aprinde si EPC. daca nu are aceste simptome, inseamna ca e alta problema. trebuie sa faci o diagnoza auto, altfel ar insemna sa te apuci sa schimbi piese fara sa sti de unde e problema.

salut. eu nu am avut problema asta, dar am o cunostinta care avea probleme cu schimbatorul. intra greu in viteze, mai ales treapta 1 si se misca schimbatorul la denivelari. solutia a fost sa regleze timoneria. insa se regleaza foarte greu. a apelat la cineva care lucreaza la reprezentanta VW, insa din prima incercare nu a reusit. a reglat-o a 2a oara si acum intra usor in viteze si se mai misca foarte putin la gropi. la tine poate are nevoie de reglare, sau poate trebuie schimbata timoneria. insa daca iti intra usor in viteze, eu zic sa o lasi asa, chiar daca se mai misca la denivelari. e foarte pretentioasa timoneria.
eu zic sa nu umbli la timonerie. doar daca te ajuta cineva care a facut asta de multe ori si stie ce face. altfel e posibil sa iti intre si mai greu in viteze.
