Whether it's adding your favorite dog park, editing local sights and businesses or mapping your entire town, Google Map Maker makes it easy to update the places you care about on Google Maps for everyone to see. Visit mapmaker.google...
I kind of figured this service would come around some day. It should prove priceless in areas all over where Google can't really 'know' everything. For example, the small (pop.), rural Japanese city I live in where it's obvious that Google doesn't have a representative mapping out each tiny sushi bar, izakaya/pub/bar&grill, and gift shop. Especially in the more remote locations within this place. (If interested, look up the beautiful city of Shinshiro if you ever make it to Japan.)
I'm surprised this is getting so many negative comments. Noone is actually making anyone do anything. I for one am glad to have the ability to correct the mapping mistakes I see in my area and get where I'm going the right way!
I hope this comes in the form of a universal app for my phone and tablet. I'm on those so much more than my desktop. Wonderful idea though, can't wait to start editing. :)
i got an idevice but... in this year google made it.. with google+, the google glasses etc google showed they can be better than apple.. i mean.. the design and the ideas are brilliant.. and with this idea google showed, that they can upgrade a very old feature as well..
This is pretty cool, but I remember finding a random zig zag on what is supposed to be a straight road once. Although I fixed it, it makes me question how accurate all the things in the map are.
This is very cool.... but is there a way that we can add our own edits just for ourselves associated with our Google account? Like mapping our contacts, favorite people, favorite places. I know Google Earth does this... but it is not cloud based but only resides on a file on our computer that can't even be moved and pointed to.

Google is using OpenStreetMap idea. Good move Google! But I think most of the active commiters to OpenStreetMap would refuse to participate in this project.
I wish you had an easier way to import GPS tracks and use them with photos and videos and as Google Maps examples for our travel blog.. alas, it's very cumbersome, through Google Earth..
Pretty much. Users can make edits, and other users will review them. If there is enough positive feedback on an edit, then the changes will be made on Google Maps live (about 10 minute delay). You can add new features (such as small roads or places that aren't mapped) or make changes to existing places like changing the website for a store.
its not easy as it show, i tried to edit a road with and intersection, you cant move the road cause of the other road and if you select both roads, its does not alow you to edit
I like openstreetmap more, but that's because my changes are directly visible after a short while, in google mapmaker you need to wait for other users to moderate it, for example tunnel closed for 3 days no one came and moderate it. and can edit openstreetmap with app on my phone. I'm editing google maps if roads are closed or if locations are in the wrong place.
