The pitched boss argument from Wonki is so bad. Did it break the economy when CRA (literal BIS till Kalos came out) was tradeable? Did it break the economy when abso was tradeable? Did it break the game when arcaneshade was tradeable? All these were all considered end game equips at one point. The game eventually progresses past that, unless they have no plans to continue developing the game at all. Plus who cares if people can skip progression? The item value scales, nobody is going to get a pitched boss set by just dropping 5 dollars on the game, they have to invest a proportionate amount of money. But that's the whole point of regular server no? People who earn more money irl than they could ever spend in Maplestory are able to still enjoy end game content if they want to, people who want to be f2p can save up x amount of mesos and buy their item instead of praying to god every week. That's the difference between reg server and reboot. Reg is deterministic progression (unless you have the money to spend on cubes) while reboot relies purely on your personal rng to progress even if you get carried for bosses. And anyway if you simply limit the number of times they can be traded, just like with other "untradeable" items, there will always be a need for fresh pitched boss items in the market so I dont see how that will break the economy
it will "break" the economy because the whales that have quitted the game would return only to psok and sell off their 22* L/L dark boss set, and suddenly there will be an influx of endgame gear in the market, and there will be nothing holding back those whales from completely breaking away from the game should they choose to quit. Essentially, it would break their cash cow, is what he was implying
He lost focus. "If it's not fun, why bother?" People are going to leave, if it is not fun. Reboot isn't competing with Reg Server. The players would have left the game completely. It's not like a Streamer where your income depends on it. You just leave, if it is not fun anymore.
In reality this should be the case: reboot should NOT compete with reg, but at this current moment it does. The problem is that reboot has too many liberties whereas reg server has gotten to the point that it's so restricted and such a money sink that it's not a good server when reboot exists.
They should just make everything tradeable in reg and adjust whatever things they need to match reboot. PSOKs to trade items come on man!! People play reg to trade. No need to nerf Reboot. Just bring Reg up
Props to those who sell off their items and quit. Maple has made so many backwards updates, many people complain each time, yet they continue to drop thousands of hours and real money into the game

I saw the memes, but I didn't know it was actually a big deal. I hope it works out at the end, though. As I grow older, it is starting to grow harder to start something new. But, maplestory always seems like it's easy to get back into. It's pretty much my favorite game at this point.

I dont thiink he did that, in fact, maplestory is one of the games that i know that has become so transparent with their players, heck the own director has streams talking about the game, thats amazing! , plus hes human, hes not a robot, he can get emotional sometimes and say things he shouldnt, everyone does that! Even polititians do this every now and then! I think the people are overreacting a bit too much, sure i agree reg server is fked and needs some improvement, but those changes need to be made slowly and taking everything into consideration , otherwise you can ACTUALLY kill the game because u listened too much to the players, because players dont look at the future health of a game, they want X and they want it now and the moment they have it they get bored and move on and try other games, which isnt the goal of a company, players are too emotional, and drastic changes need to be done with a lot of care. I cant wait for saviour update tbh, the new boss looks sick! and the story is pretty nice too! also lot of improvements so... kinda happy .
IMO, I feel that both FTP and obviously P2W maplers are equally important in Maple. They add up to make the overall community. If you introduce too many P2W features, you lose the FTP, and vice versa. It's a delicate balance that they have to work with. It's not an easy task but that's where the community comes in. Listen to constructive feedbacks, not the rants that ppl usually give. I believe youtubers/streamers/content creators would be a good starting platform for them?
the fact that he talked about symbols - when i maxed arcane symbols i didn't feel a measurable difference (in bossing/mobbing or whatever), ngl. i rmr my main being lv 215 complaining about how weak i was and some discord shill was like 'just stop complaining and max ur symbols' and was angry that i even said that. Looking back, most people in discord who pressure u to play more are just shills to keep u in the game for longer, when they Know the gains are not significant unless you p2w. TLDR, arcane symbols dont make that much of a difference. The biggest difference was equips imo

I really hope something good comes out of this. There is simply no reason to play regular server compared to reboot and it makes no sense given that reg server is the original, intended way to play maplestory and reboot is an alternative. I always thought reboot made sense for NA becaude Cash items work differently, is more expensive and American players are less willing to spend on the game but in Korea? There is no reason for developers to push a server whrr you can accomplish everything you can reach in reg but in a fraction of the time.
They should just keep everything tradeable in reg like players are asking, reboot can stay faster but everything is bound, regular slower but you can bail out with RMT like it was before or send items to a new main
@@nakazatojl that is definitely needed but in my opinion the problem lays on how the rates for everything are multiplied for reboot while at the same time all crafting items are way more accessible. In reboot any mid game player can easily farm 10 b and spend it on hundreds of flames or cubes. In reg the same player wil be lucky to make a bill a week which can get you 20 flames from AU at best
Multiplied? Man i havent seen a dom pendant or a superior item in like 3 months with 350% drop rate. So imagine booming it … Reboot is fine. The problem is reg server F2P progression rate and trade capabilites at end game for pitch boss items. How do they fix that. We shall find out.
There is one good thing about regular servers; cheap cute perma nx in the auction house. I never log in to my characters there of course, but the F2P drip is always worth a glance or two
Can see that you are upset about this Steve, as a lot of us are. One thing we can do as players is keep supporting the content creators who bring eyes to the game when the developers seem like they don't care.

Nah this shit is streamed abroad, such a shame I'm a KMS user. People fear of collapsed value of their items and make a panic run to reboot even event is undone. Every arcaneshade and pitched boss items in an auction got 15% to 25% lower and unreinforced absolute set items are 5~8K now. Lehman brother's are not that far. Tragedy.
Yeah they COULD have put a monetary restriction on 5th job progression... but then people would've just quit. All Won-Ki has told us is that he doesn't actually understand this business. He ONLY can see predatory approaches for bringing in revenue. Ironically listening to the core player base will always be the best option, and yet somehow it's missed every time.

The way he said it was understandable, I think what he ment behind saying this is so everybody would understand he is with us and he is trying to do what is right at the same time. Why are we as players shocked to hear the truth? We have argued and told them that most of the choices they make are wrong, How else is he suppose to react? So to add more context to what steve was explaining at the start, there was a huge hooha between regular and reboot. Basically, all the end game items in regular are made untradeble, what's the difference playing in reboot then? Reboot's passive already gives you so much damage, they don't have bpot to care about, and people can already solo blackmage over there (for free, if you disregard the time needed to grind, which in regular you also need to grind). Players were asking the directors, what's the pros of playing regular server then? They could not give a proper reply. And then he dropped that bombshell. Sure, what he said was true, he could've milked us of our money, but why would you even say that on a livestream where you're implying players to suck it up? Sure, you can enjoy the game, but when money's involved, shit gets messy, especially when you find out that you don't actually have to spend what you did to have the same exact content and better progression

In regular servers doing mid end game contents nett u 250m mesos or more depending on how crazy funded you are. But at reboot you can earn 1.5B weekly. 1.5weekly with the same bossing type. Why me as a long time player stick to regular server instead? We work our @ss off for one month and reboot can do it so for 10months in a month. My goal is to defeat BM as a regular player and still the idea is far and impossible to do it. But with the time needed in reboot to defeat black mage is shorter. How is that in your eyes consider a rewarding gameplay. The game is fun yes, the storyline is I would say the best, and am I an MVP as well in supporting fashion, pets and what not. Yes. But I don't buy cubes for end game stuff. If there is reboot in maplesea. I would have jump ship long time ago and chase my dream for an actual end game boss that is doable for f2p players like myself. Don't get me wrong, I like the game. But I think a better reward system for party play with the boss (mesos no split but full instead in regular server ) could make the game abit more balance. Rather than earn so less. basically what happened was players were arguing to the director about reboot and normal server bc basically 80% of gear is basically untradeable on normal anyways(gear that matters) and ofc the mans tried to argue back and tried to shut them up(he was upset at this point) by saying “all those dailies for ur symbols and all those nodestones you farmed are free and I could’ve made it so you had to pay money for them”. It’s like getting into any argument with ur parents and even tho you’re right and they’re wrong they pull a fast one and say “I could made it so you have to pay rent, but guess what? I didn’t”. In short he got pissed and found a passive aggressive way to insult the players. Edit: The players are more pissed about the insult than the whole tradeability issue at this point.
Because we already know this. Gms and msea have known for years that this is how the server directors actually feel. Kms players have had the wool over their eyes for so long, and now it’s finally being removed.
I mean let’s keep it real many players are holding on to regular servers because they simply invested so much (time leveling characters over the yrs and money)to just throw it away! OF COURSE they didn't make symbols cost money. If they made symbols cost real money, there would ACTUALLY be no way for the free to play players to progress beyond lvl 200. How is anyone supposed to even get to 210 and start fighting actual mid game bosses without upgrading their symbols??? Nexon is well aware that they'd lose even the biggest of whalers before they even get to 210 on their first characters. There isn't a successful game developer in the world that makes you pay to play the "free-to-play" mmo BEFORE you finish your tutorial levels. What a moron that guy is if he thinks saying this will give him the players' trust. And this is the guy DIRECTING the game apparently.
That isn't the main issue here. The entire community simply wanted the Director to address the regular/reboot balance and about pitch boss opted to be tradable in regular. Then he made a bizzare response which is the message at 02:49 A response that the literal Director of Maplestory should not have said. He's basically spitting directly in the face of the entire Maplestory community which caused this outrage.
Him saying "it could be much worse" is like giving u a mild poison that would kill u slowly and said I could have killed u instantly with a deadly poison, which sounds very bad and it's like being in a toxic relationship lol.

In my opinion, they are incentivizing Reboot too much compared to the Standard game. Boosted rates should be comparative with average active player base. For comparison; I believe Nexon should really change the base drop rates, meso, and EXP rate in English MapleStory Bera and Reboot to be base. It should be a bit higher in Scania and Aurora. It should be way higher in Elysium. That way, the player base is organically encouraged to play in less popular worlds.
People shouldn’t even be playing non reboot worlds…. There’s no way to progress without paying $$ how can people genuinely progress in reg servers and feel good…..
@@plaguedoctor5657 personally I disagree progressing to cernium and being able to solo up to normal tenebris bosses is very much possible and saying “no way to progress without $$$” is just false bc this is very doable on kms and gms ofc more doable on kms, but the whole point was that the players on kms normal felt more rewarded on reboot than normal. Being late game is very possible, but it doesn’t feel rewarding and takes longer than reboot. Edit: Progression on normal up to black mage is as possible as reboot(I’m still using mainly 3 line unique with a mix of legendary), but ofc in terms of enjoyment/fun and freedom reboot gives… I’d say reboot wins because the amount of investment is low for what u get and just starting over is fine.

It’s not like we’re playing a vastly different game in terms of fundamentals (Same bosses, same base game, etc). It’s definitely harder to progress in reg server, but not impossible like half the rebooters make it seem. Personally soloed Hard Darknell in 20 min a month ago prelib while spending ~$35 a year (which isnt an absurd amount for a hobby).

Even though it's wrong to say such thing in life, but I think that from Korean player base alone, they complain and compare too much that they could play over seas sever and enjoy it if they want but they don't want to. I'm amazed by their ego, furrther more, KMS may be a primary profit making server, their community is quite toxic from my point of view.

But I stood in his shoes as well as my own as a player, this is a problem from both sides and you know, it's the game managing team's job to come up with something to satisfy the players, it's just that they didn't think it through. And by such solutions that only work in the near future, people will get greedy and ask for more and complain more. I did not say they asked too big, but it's so many times instead, from anoying minor things which is avoidable and meaningless to something that's real sh*t from the dev and the players. Yes players are customer and they invest their money to it, and they can ask, but they don't need to ask something that could break the game, which still they did. If you're a developer, then you would understand this, they asked for something that from your understanding of your project, there comes with a huge risk.

They also have the problem with making the decision too, since they have their own ego not to think something new and out of the box. He literally just gave an example of how they went out of their way to NOT go the money-milking route, and players are taking that as a "threat" that he will make it paid? @@nellynn_ To add to that, saying that the "MMORPG is a dying genre" isn't wrong. But a big reason why it is, is because of poor game direction. Which makes it especially tone deaf to say this. Lost Ark in Korea didn't have a problem growing in population once they started pushing out good content. If I'm going to use Wonky's examples back at him, the fact that 5th job nodes require progression at all, and that Nodestones are tradable is p2w in itself. In every job before 4th job we got all our skills available with their max levels, with skill levels determined by our character's level. And 4th job had skill books but it was clear that players didn't like the skill book system which is why they standardized skill books, and eventually removed them. Even worse than that previously they had actually tried monetizing skills in the past with Evan and Dual Blade having skills locked behind NX purchases. It's not that they made Nodestones drop out of the kindness of their hearts, its because they finally found a way to monetize skills in a way that players would be okay with. I have no doubt that a lot of the Mesos obtained from the Mesos market from new players is likely spent on nodes. And on to AF and SAC, the fact that these two are time-gated encourages players to over-gear their characters to progress faster than the game will allow them to. There's zero reason why the game even has AF/SAC. Your level already prevents you from going to later areas, there's no reason to add a secondary time-gated progression on top of levelling unless you were trying to get players to get impatient. And impatient players are more likely to spend money.
Then when you get a job and your boss spits on your face, I hope you won't complain and have your mouth open to drink it all. In the end, your boss is right to mistreat you because "he's right and is making money".
