15,000 years ago, sea-levels in the South-West region of Western Australia were almost 100m lower than they are today. Over time, the coastline has shifted 45km inland, submerging land which was once inhabited by the Wadandi People, who are the Traditional Owners of this region.
The underwater terrain along the Cape Leeuwin coast had remained largely uncharted using modern technology - until now.
This NAIDOC Week, MMA is proud to share our short film ‘Mapping together on Wadandi Sea Country’, which was supported by the Undalup Association and the University of Western Australia, as a collaboration under the Australian Government’s HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program.
