I love how he lit his ciggie, had a quick drag, crossed the road and then chucked his ciggie away before jumping in the car. No one would do that in Australia these days - they are too expensive!
I'm 45 and I'm never heard this song nor ever seen this video but I'm loving it. They don't make videos like this anymore, everybody's got to be too serious.
I love this song and the accompanying video clip, especially the part featuring the old pedestrian tunnel at Central Railway Station in Sydney, which still operates as a passenger tunnel to this day. I now reside in New York City, so I know all about 'Big City Talk'. The other guy featured in the video clip, wearing heavy/pale make-up is Martin Raphael, who played keyboards on the album that this hit single appeared on.
I grew up in the area this video was filmed in. It's a lovely 1981 'time capsule' of those days. I was only 12 or 13 at the time. You are seeing Kings Cross (Darlinghurst Road and Macleay Street) and the pedestrian subway at Sydney's Central Train Station. If it was Saturday night right now, I'd put on my dancing shoes and go back to that area tonight! *Oh, and the woman with red feathers in her hair is spectacularly beautiful!*
@Jeremy Young yeah same here. Especially in 1984 and 1985 - I walked that tunnel from central station to Sydney technical college and back, five days a week whilst doing a Surveying course there. The memories.
Great tune.. 70s guitars with a bit of unwavering pop. But the star is Marc, his voice, his phrasing, his tone, swagger and the lyrics…well I thought they always said, ‘There’s no such thing, as a friend’s advice’…as in, there are no real friends in the city - everyone has their own agenda, and they are so sassy and clever they disguise taking as giving. Boy oh boy, I was already a shattered young man at 17.
Those girls would now be… what…. almost 70? I love the tunnel sequence.... the older woman want to run, the men try to discreetly perve..... both wonder what the hell is going on.

@@davidpearson3390 Marc's daughter performed vocals with the band _Dragon_ after Marc's death. Apparently he has/had three kids. His brother, Todd Hunter, was the bass player in Marc Hunter's other band, Dragon.... ... And *_hello_* from Midtown in New York City - East 44th Street to be precise. When I get homesick for Sydney, I listen to Dragon, Marc Hunter, Cold Chisel (especially the song _Flame Trees)_ or I watch the classic satirical Australian movie _Don's Party._ New York City -- and the USA in general -- is a business, *NOT* a nation, so don't get too caught up in 'Big City Talk'. (This song is good, but the _reality_ of Big City Talk can suck.) I live near the Chysler Building in Mnahattan and (Donald Trump's) Trump Tower.
