Yes, so evident in just these few clips of him. I wish I had more. So many wonderful supportive dancers of that era. I'm grateful for what ever footage we have of their gifts.
A fine (and more than appropriate) tribute to the big musical films... and a great dancer from early Hollywood. Mark Wilder should not be forgotten. Especially now that musicals have come back into style. And ballet... well, it's more "in" than it's ever been. Maybe there is some justice in this world... Some.
I'm so glad to see this tribute to Marc. I knew him from his first dance job working the California State Fair in the early 50's. We danced together many times and remained close friends for his whole unusual life. Aside from being a wonderful dancer...he was probably THE most perfect/beautiful male face and form ever put on the earth.
+oldgypsytap That makes me very happy that you found this tribute to Marc, having been someone who knew him well and appreciated him, not only for his talent but as a friend. Thank you for your comment.
Thanks for this tribute to Marc. He was a close family friend to me when I was growing up. A part of me died when he did, but I have several momentos of his, and my son was named after him, so he’s forever in our lives... but, I still miss him dearly!
Sorry for the late reply. Some comments were held for review. I'm glad you appreciated the tribute. I'm a little jealous that you actually knew him. From what I learned from others who also knew him, he was a lovely man.
A real treat. Yes, it's too bad he didn't have more featured roles. He was probably one of the best looking dancers from that era. Thanks for putting this up
Devron Conrad Don't know about his family but a fellow RU-vidr may be of help to you in answering your question. LarsBonner. He was a personal friend of Marc's.
I knew Marc very briefly in the mid-1970s. What a gentleman, with a great sense of humor. He had a beautiful home above the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood.
somefavs And thank you so much for posting these wonderful clips of Marc dancing. When I knew him I had no idea how great a dancer/actor he was. He was very modest when talking about his career in Hollywood.
EagleRockers And once again, that does not surprise me. (His modesty about his talent). I feel that there was so much of who he was revealed in his dancing that I could say that I somehow knew these things about him even though I never met the man. But hearing it from you (and also, what I learned from Larrs) people who actually knew him, makes me even more happy that I put this video up. Thank you for that! All the best, Annette
Remarkable mixture of modesty, beauty, sensuality, consideration -- he always hits his marks, but never too hard, he never pulls focus but takes it when the part requires it -- his timing is perfect, and he knows what part of the movement needs to be displayed. I LOVE the way, partnering Sleeping Beauty over by the pool, he half-rolls off that that stair and shows us his beautiful backside -- and then rises to lift Charisse into a fish dive with no visible preparation - 'like avocado in salad.'
