I read the Housemaid and loved it. Then a little bit later I read The Last Mrs Parrish. My jaw literally dropped when i realized freida copied a whole scene from Last Mrs Parrish. The concept of housemaid is very similar to Liv’s book. I’ve heard there’s others Freida books that are way too similar to others. Its unfortunate! The Next Mrs Parrish comes out soon Ave I’ve heard its good!

I actually DNF’ed The Last Mrs. Parrish so I couldn’t have known! I have heard they are similar but things can be so formulaic in thrillers & be mistaken for plagiarism. 😅

The original Hunger Games trilogy is an all time favorite - I’ve read them at least six times - I’m wondering if I should even keep Powerless on my TBR now 😬

I totally agree with you about powerless. It really reminded me so much of hunger games, even though I loved the banter between the two main characters I really couldn’t stand the way Kai kept referring to Payden as my darling just felt like a bit awkward

Omg YES about Powerless and Hunger Games!!! I just read all the HG for the first time within the past 6 months and I was SO hyped for Powerless but I was like…?!?!? It felt like a rinse and repeat to me! We had the same thoughts lol

i have so many to get to! Powerless is on my TBR cart, i just picked up Inked in blood from BOTM, i just read the housemaid 1&2 back to back, & i liked the clinic! i thought it was twisted.. but i agree i thought it was going to be different than what it was! i may not have read it as fast if i hadnt read it with the audio as well

I read Serpent & The Wings of Night recently and it reminded me a lot of the hunger games too, it was so violent I had to skim all of the trials 😬 I just can’t handle reading that as much as I used to so I probably wouldn’t enjoy Powerless either. 📚 I just read the cutest manga called Soara & The House of Monsters, it made me smile a lot! It’s about dwarves making cozy homes for monsters 😊
@livslibrary
@livslibrary 4 месяца назад
Powerless was VERY different from Serpent, so you can always still try it! There’s no vampires & Powerless is young adult, so it’s a lot less gory & there’s no language. 😅 Also, I’m checking this manga out immediately!!!

I totally get your criticism on Powerless because I felt the same way. Especially the fitst half of the book was really just a copy of The Hunger Games with the reaping, the interviews, etc. I really liked the concept of the balls though and the banter between the two main characters was great in my opinion. I also really liked the end with the cliffhanger a lot. Nevertheless, I gave it 4.5 stars just for the pure enjoyment🫢😅

I'm glad you liked The Housemaid. I just read Freida's new book, The Teacher, and really didn't like it. Even if the last two plot twists were good, the overall book still drove me nuts.

I agree with EVERYTHING you said about powerless! I have felt totally alone in my opinions. I think we see the similarities because we were in the like “hunger games generation” and a lot of the like 22 and under crowd it just didn’t hit as hard with them. I haven’t reread hunger games as an adult and I felt like it was hunger games fanfic the WHOLE time. So it’s not just because you read them recently I assure you 😅

@@livslibrary yeah that too. 🙂 I try to space genres out so they don't get old. The Clinic was an interesting read, however thrillers are pretty much fun to read in the moment and then I move on.

I know I'm on the outlier here but I don't like Freida McFadden. She has been investigated for plagiarism...The Housemaid is almost exactly word for word from another book called The Last Mrs Parish that is by Liv Constantine and was released years before Freida McFadden self published The Housemaid. Evidently the rest or most of her books seem to be her own.
@livslibrary

I’m aware about this, but I love that she’s a surgeon & writes for brain trauma patients. Her books aren’t meant to be over complicated so I can see how people would think it’s plagiarism with so many similarities!
