In his case the hard work is lower than 80%. He's only been playing for 13 years, and given how good he is, you might be tempted to think that he must practice 8-10 hours per day. That is how much the other kids practice at the music school he went to. But he doesn't practice like that. He does 4 hours maximum. Unlike other players who spend all their time trying to refine their playing and reach perfection, he just takes a couple hours per day to focus on whatever he is weakest in. By approaching it this way there is always something that he's weak at that can be improved. So he just moves from one weakest thing to the next thing. This means that there is no perfection for him to reach, there is only the climb. Always another rung on the ladder. So in practice he ends up going much further in less time using less energy. It's interesting to think about; If you attempt to reach perfection, you think that you're reaching greatness, but you're actually just setting a limit for yourself. Whatever limits there are, Marcin just seems to pass them by.
