Thinking more along the lines of a stress fracture in a trailing arm bracket. Some heavy braking and the housing decides it can slow down faster without the weight of the truck.

the trailing arm is broke off where the bolt sleeves are welded in....odd. I would be loocking at the material of the arms, using tin material has been done in th past.
