From DW DVD's release of "The Marco Show". Here master technician on the drums Marco Minnemann plays with a big band. Director | Producer | Geoffrey S. McNeil Production Company | GSM Entertainment www.gsmentertainment.com
Such a versatile drummer. Anyone who says that drummers who frequently get typecasted under the 'uber-technical virtuosic drummer' umbrella can't also be musically versatile must either be missing something, or else must just be really good at rationalizing their opinions in the face of contradictory evidence. Marco is the man!
Jazz is like a language. It's hard to get it if you don't start young. That's why Steve Gadd is really one of the few drummers that sound really comfortable playing with Buddy Rich's band. He grew up with jazz. You can't just listen to a few charts and do it, it has to be in your body like muscle memory. I think it's great these young guys are sort of paying tribute to Buddy, but it's not great music.
while marco can play the other stuff hes not for this music ..his swing is bad....hes gotta way to go or prove before yall metal fans who never listen to jazz can say he plays jazz..lets see him with a smaller band ...on brushes etc.....trade 4s ..play jazz drum solos that fit the fucking song etc...instead of getting butt hurt how bout yall stop being disrespectful to the listeners and musicians of jazz( I am both) and take our word at face value ...!!!!
