I honestly think his reputation is just a product of exaggeration and ignorance. He is just a home cook who makes no one cry, and just wants his kingfish.
Yeah no, but seriously I would wet myself if Marco looked me in the eye.. He is the sigma male of our species

As someone who works professionally as a cook I can say that every great chef is intimidating. They work so hard and sacrifice so much to create something beautiful and fleeting. A masterpiece that gets destroyed in the blink of an eye never to be seen in the same form again. Gordon and Marco are two people who lost everything and gained something more than themselves. You feel the passion in their presence and that’s what is intimidating. The passion and love that is only achieved by .00001% of people. The rest don’t find the mindset or take the time to truly love and embody the craft we choose.

I think it's obvious that the reporter meant this as opposed to having to deal with all of the distractions of owning and running the entire restaurant, or any of the other things Marco does. They were not saying cooking is easy, but that it can be meditative to just be able to focus on that one thing. Marco himself called it a form of therapy. Marco deliberately misunderstood them to have a gotcha moment, he likes to put people on their back foot. He was being a bit of a twat.

Unlike the case of Gordon Ramsay or some other chefs, you don't have to be a cook to learn from or get inspired my Marco. He is a larger-than-life character who is above his profession, a mentor and father figure to pretty much anyone who pursues something meaningful in their life:) I could not care less about cooking but I still find Marco's teachings and quotes engaging.

Marco Pierre White is the master chef because he has achieved the highest honors of supreme cooking mastery and that entails the complete running of breakfast , lunch , and dinner service at the highest levels , conquered the tele greatest chef shows , has written countless books and articles of cooking wizardry and reimagined the art of cooking and successfully conveyed to lesser cooks like myself the importance of the controlled chaos needed to push where/what can be or needs to be pushed such as prep and then pulling back on the dish itself so as not to destroy the composition in trying to complete the dish. Dr. Marco Pierre White has perfected the waltz that is success of presenting each and every dining service to masterful completion just as a composer renders the absolute utmost skill from every chair of an orchestra. His silence and never flinching , steely but warm gaze to a student chef elicits the answer from the student to be answered with truth being the only acceptable conclusion and all without disrespecting or breaking the students will and desire to ultimately please this exceptional master of excellence but rather trying to get each student to be able on their own to honestly answer every question that should arise concerning every bite of food , presentation of plate that they send.
