I watched this originally Steve real years ago. What I love about your prices is that it’s like you paint with your paper. I have severe Rheu Arthritis and my hands are now crippled making it painful to manipulate my paintbrushes. If I can find a different way of cutting paper, other than scissors which hurt my hands when I do any cutting. I’ve always said that when the day comes that I’m unable to create anything at all will be the day that I no longer care about living. But I’m still painting, I’m just taking longer breaks. lol Annie
Thanks for the comment :) exacto knife might be a good way to try and cut paper but keep experimenting to see what works for you, so many mediums to work with that might work for you, keep going!
Ommggg how delicious does that pile of papers look! ? I just want to roll around in it lol. I think you need another room with just junk mail to use aswell 😆😄💚💙
Thanks to a tip from another TAB art teacher I discovered your video and have been showing it to my k-5 elementary art students; they love you! Thanks for the inspiration!
I keep coming back to this video. It`s such an inspiration. I think it is the best collage work I have seen so far. I admire your talent, it is extraordinary. What a pitty so many others haven`t discovered this presentation yet. So thank you again :)
You are my new hero! I make collage and my room is going to end up like yours! Collage is my new medium and one that I will always do. I get a lot of compliments and I hope some sales! I'm tired of trying to perfect watercolor and painting with acrylics.....collage really does feel like meditation to me. Thank you!!!
I am new to art. For a long time I believed I was useless at it. But this is how I work, I dont plan I just go by how I feel at the time, and yes it's chaos, very messy chaos. It's good to see I am not alone. Thank you.
O my gosh!!! I love this, x 1milion......brilliant, magic, wonderful, fantastic.......I'm on end speechless ......hahaha....... and this mess on floor/work place .....YOU ARTIST!!!
Where do you store your paper? I love it too but I cannot figure out how to keep it ,without it being hidden, scattered, magazines and flyers are my favs , but I gather a lot and need help.
I was new to RU-vid and thought snarky comments were the way to go way back then. I stopped doing that and I’m sorry. Actually I truly think your artwork is amazing and beautiful !!
Love them! Well done to you for sticking (!) with ONE technique. I try out loads so haven't got one style = as REAL artists should apparently! How on earth do you catalogue (?) & FIND the right colours, patterns etc. you want within all your papers?!
Thanks Jenny, This was a long time ago and glad i stuck with one thing for so long but as a artist we all grow and now work with animation and digital as well :) I catalogue finished pieces but as far as the scraps is pure chaos!
Very beautiful! I Like yours Scissors for your ART! From MATISSE ON LINE With ✂️ Scissors. Very well THANKS Marina Di Santo Pescara Italy architetta, for your. THANKS for your time today! Marina Di Santo From Pescara Italy architetta
These looks amazing but...only one thing, the paper fades really easily and fast so how can you sell the originals? I can see making and selling giclee prints but the original must have to be kept out of direct light even if sprayed and in a uv glass frame no? The designs are wonderful.
Thanks jo, yes paper is a fragile thing, using high quilty acid and lignin-free paper is key, keeping pieces out of direct light and moisture help longevity as well, some of my largest most intricate works are in UV glass frames, there are many professional artists that use paper and sell their works all over the world, I also do sell giclee prints on my website www.marcpaperscissor.com
Thank u, neither is paper or the glue over long periods or in extreme temperature, it definitely delicate work with a shelf life one the challenges i have faced, all these pieces have been in storage without light and tempature controlled for almost a decade no one has seen them, they just recently got pull out and they still look brand new luckily, but everything fades :)
Hi! Just discovered you ! I am a monitoring print Artists and have recently started thinking about how to use my Gelli print papers in a more abstract format. I normally create people and relationship scenes as I cut or tear my paper. I received my Blick Canvases in the mail last week, ordering with no clear idea in mind . Thanks for the sharing your work; inspiration to me! Quarantine for an Artist is a gift!!😄
Chaos? I’d call that room madness. You are the first RU-vid that I have seen that doesn’t have some kind of paper scrap organization. But whatever works for you…
wow! color xerox and staple to telephone poles, like a 'totem pole'!..... [ i used to REMOVE OLD STAPLES from a lot of telephone poles and then staple up my DVD-size amateur-ish collages or xeroxed doodles, going all around the pole and up to about 8-ft. high! i still do a little and put $1-bill behind some of them with a message. ]
Hi Beth :) I know thier are a ton of books on collage but cant recommend a specific one as I have never used one but check out the book; henri matise cut-outs
Thank you so much for this video! Any advice on papers (brand and types) that won't fade and may be suitable for a professional collage artist? Ordinary construction paper can fade dramatically.
Yes I use an acid-free, archival cardstock you can get them at most arts and crafts stores, construction paper, like u said fades and is not typically archival
That's the way I do my artwork also. Very little planning before starting. Love your style! I am constantly hoarding books and magazines with higher quality printing and paper. Family thinks I'm becoming a hoarder of magazines. Lol.
