This makes so much sense now! I had a lowerance ti2 9” on a genz box with marcum brute. Nonissue fishing. Got this shuttle as a gift and was confused how fast battery depleted. A few hours on ice and it’d be nearly dead. Looking closer to battery and now watching your lithium vs LiFePO4 comparison, it makes sense! Junk for the price. A gimmick.
Would love to see a video on how to change the batteries. Always thought the shuttle was a good idea, but heard that they had the polymer batteries in there. Love the Brute battery!
Great video Jeremy! Thank you for not only this one but all your battery teardowns as well. You have saved alot of people alot of money. I almost bought a shutte to retrofit to my helix…..glad I didn’t and instead built my own with a milk crate and Amped Outdoors battery.
Im glad you do these teardown videos. Companies out there will feed us anything for our money. I got lucky with the batteries I bought and I try to tell folks to watch your videos and get something that lasts.....Amped Outdoors all the way!!
I'd like to share this video... But I also plan to sell my lithium Shuttle . I've had it for 2 years, luckily bought on a pretty good sale. First winter it was hooked up to a 1st generation Helix 7. Very basic model, just CHIRP and GPS. The shuttle held up pretty well, got about 25 hours of run time. Year 2 it powered a Helix 7 GPS MSI G3N, and that's when I realized the power issues from the shuttle battery. I don't like letting the battery get below 50% anymore. That means I get one afternoon and that's it.
In electric model aviation lipo’s have been used for years! They are a different type of animal as if they are dropped, they can burst into flames, makes plane crashes pretty spectacular. Crash and burn is a very real thing!
From personal experience and owning two I agree that the shuttle battery is not made for ice fishing or to operate a decent sonar unit for any decent length of time. My first shuttle I mounted a Lowrance Gen 2 HDs 8. Did okay with that unit but I only got five hours out of it and if I remember correctly it was down to 35 % battery left. That unit I bought when they first came out. I sold the boat that unit was on and let the external antenna go with it. The following year I mounted a Lowrance Gen 3 HDs 9 on it (internal gps antenna) but the shuttle was not powerful enough to operate that unit correctly for any amount of time. I thought at first the touch screens ,also key pad assist, were not good in the cold. But in between using both units I purchased a second shuttle for my marcum camera. Well the camera set up never happened because the first shuttle crapped out and I could no longer charge the battery. I wasn’t going to spend all that money getting the battery replaced when it’s not suitable for my electronics anyways. Since then I purchased a Helix 7 all weather kit and put that on the newer shuttle, only because Humminbird was sold out of the new Helix ice conversion kits. Now I was able to order the conversion kit and should receive it today. After looking through your videos I plan on buying the Amped 20AH battery for it. Seems like a good match after looking at cost and performance. I will be keeping my two shuttles though and waiting for a suitable battery replacement. Thanks for the videos and I just subscribed.
I have a LX7 Lithium shuttle Marcum unit. I had to have it fixed at Marcum because of a bad motherboard. I used it four times this year, and now that it works, I like the LX7. What I don't like is even though I charge it to 100%, my battery lasts for 4 hours and then dies. It has happened for the 4 days I have been out. Can you tell me what the best solution to replace the battery on this unit, that will last for a normal time. I am concerned if I replace the old style battery, with the same style battery I will have the same problem. Is there a better battery to do a replacement with that will last on this LX7 shuttle ? Thanks for your advice..
I think I would leave the battery out, install a jack to the outside of the case then plug in good battery when fishing. A lot better choice than using the installed battery from Long Duck Dong battery company in China.
Hey all, I have two of these and after 3 years they are not salvageable. I have to adapt and mess around converting all of this. Due to this I’m done with marcum. They blew my confidence in there business management decisions. Btw I’m the guy that charged these after every use and even had them sitting on 1” of insulated foam. What a waste of money…..never again Marcum
I actually have 2 shuttles now because it was only saving me $30 to just buy a new shuttle then have it replaced. Plus I didn’t want to wait. So I definitely would be interested in a better option I could buy.
Hi Jeremy. Its been about 5 months now, since your first video on the crappy battery in the Marcum Lithium Shuttle. (Mine failed at 1 year 3 months. I'm looking to het this thing up and running for this ice season. Have you had any luck try to figure out a replacement scenario yet? THANKS for all you do!
I wish I would have seen this before sending my LX7 on shuttle to Marcum for repair. I thought I was having transducer issues, or a problem with a resistor on the board. Marcum sent the shuttle and LX7 back saying that they fixed it by replacing the battery. This after just a year and a half of winter use. Out of warranty, I shelled out $140 for that. Not happy.
So the latest update put out by Humminbird includes a menu option to select the battery type supplying power. Since I'm using a lithium Shuttle I selected the 11.1V nominal voltage. I must say, the battery read out on the unit has changed dramatically and now is almost identical to the battery level on the shuttle.
Great video I don't know if you had a different model or what but it is a lithium ion battery in the shuttle not a lithium polymer lipo batteries are extremely unstable and are mostly used in the rc car world however li ion are way more stable and a whole lot safer
I’ve hated my shuttle since I bought it when they first came out.. I have a Dakota lithium battery in my humminbird ice 55 and can run it forever before worrying about the battery..
My Marcum Shuttle battery failed after 1 1/2 years. I rewired it to use a 12v 10a marcum brute battery. I saw no fuses of any type inside the shuttle and the wire diameter looked very small. You said in your video that the wiring was good. Are there any fuses in there that I missed? Your channel is awesome!
Jeremy, you may or may not remember I had (what I thougt was a problem with an Amped 12ah battery, I was wrong). Amped wasn’t able to help me out, but long story short, I recently found the fuse had blown in the battery box I built, but the volt meter was still bouncing around a voltage of 3.5 to 3.7. Changed the fuse and voltage is correct. How could it show any voltage with the blown fuse? As far as future videos go…I’ll watch anything you put out. Just an interesting subject for some reason, lol. Thanks for what you do!
Pull your fuse completely out and check your voltmeter again. If you have voltage, there is probably a wiring or component issue somewhere. If you don't, then something funky was going on with that fuse that blew.
Wish this video was out before I bought one for my helix 7 lol I would be interested to know what battery could be used in place if that one and still be able to use the shuttle!

Try amped outdoors and look at their lifepo4 batteries. I have a 12v series and have been running it for 3 years now. They currently have a sale going on so nab em wile ya can!
Amped doesn't show anything remotely close to fitting inside the shuttle. The only manufacturer I can find that gets close to the dimensions needed is Bioenno and it's still too big.
Because of the size of the lithium polymer polymer pouch battery used in the shuttle, there is no other battery that will fit in its place. You are better to buy an aftermarket shuttle that you can adapt a better battery to.
I'm going to step in and give everyone my experience with the shuttles. I run 20 of these for my clients ice fishing and have been using the same units going on 5 years. I've seen little if any loss of time per charge on all but 1 of my shuttles. And that particular one is my personal one that gets charged daily and also runs my gopro. Ice defense and lights. I can easily get 2 days of fishing per charge and most of these also run an ice defense. That being said, your lab test may show one thing but in the real world I've had 0 issues with these and absolutely love how lightweight and well they work. I run MX7 GPS, M5L. M3L HELIX 7 AND A Garmin SV 7" on these shuttles and all the bigger Lcd units will get 2 full days of fishing where the flashers will go 4 days or more.

I am very interest in why/how you have 20, five year old units that get ran really hard and have held up so well compared to the product that the average ice angler has. There are a lot of guys out there with two and three year old shuttles that don't fish or use their shuttles nearly as hard as you have with your guide service, and they have seen a pretty dramatic loss of time per charge. Are you charging them after every time out or do you run them down? How do you store them in the off season? Did promotional guys get a different battery in their units? The reason I asked that last one is because I noticed some MarCum promotional videos on your RU-vid channel so I would assume there is or was some time of business relationship between you and MarCum? Or maybe those early models just had a better battery?? Thank you for your insight!
When I was looking into the Marcum M1 I was watching RU-vid videos of them and one that popped up was on this shuttle and unfortunately this led me to believe that the shuttle with the light and switch was a standard piece. I'm with you Jeremy I feel like sometimes the companies send out units to content creators or guides that are different than the ones you can buy.
WOW. 8 months and still nothing? Marcum REALLY doesn't want this serviced by their customers do they?? How has some maker not designed one yet? Me thinks we need the word out more. Yell it from the rooftops!
