Many people don't know the movie Gladiator (2000) is a secret remake of this movie: The Fall of the Roman Empire (1964). :) Whether you saw it or not there is movie plot in video description (beware of spoilers). You can notice many similarities with Gladiator.
The speech was nice, I like how the actor even used the historic hand gestures associated with oratory of the time. However the battle scene was so goofy, the portrayal of the Romans was rough but the Germanic tribes looked so stereotypically bad, I mean not like the ones in Gladiator were much better, but they're all wearing animal skins and hitting people with clubs, like where are the spears and shields they would've likely really used lol
Agree! The speech was nice, such a classic about unity and peace, but nothing close to the real meditations of Marcus Aurelius. Interestingly, there are some historical accuracies and, on the other hand, somehow fantasy costumes. I noticed that there are costumes borrowed from other movies (for example Cleopatra, Helen of Troy, 300 Spartans) Oh battle is a typical "sword and sandal" product of that Holywood era. Add to that the "happy" music. The golden rule, if you want to show a barbarian people, they have to wear furs and look totally stupid. :D Interesting how this battle looks same just like in the movie Gladiator with the cavalry attack from behind through the forest.
