I never realised he controlled both sets of hats at the same time with one foot, like playing the second pair with his heel, I thought he was just bouncing between pedals. An incredible player.
He takes Roy Haynes and Tony Williams and throws em in a blender- in a very, very good way. Sub divide the beat but still make a musical statement? Next level shit, son.
DarkeningSkies1 Sorry it’s not next level shit, junior!!! it’s all linear conceptual playing!! all he is doing is using different voices with great chops & independence! Antonio Sanchez, Bill Stewart, Lee Pearson etc play the same way!!!! nothing new!!
@@sticktrik Why can't "next level shit" be used as a description of linear conceptual playing if the linear conceptual playing is being executed superbly? I think you are sniffing up the wrong tree for an argument, "junior".
DarkeningSkies1 “Sniffing for an argument” with who you!! Oohhh god has just spoken excuse me!??There is no next level shit there,Sherlock Holmes!!..everything has already been done in drumming!!! unless, you grow another limb!! Then we can talk!!! get off your high horse with your drumming threats!!!
@@sticktrik I wasn't "making a threat", I was reacting to your dismissive, argumentative tone. Calling someone you don't know "junior" is also unnecessarily dismissive. You are welcome to believe that drums as an instrument have frozen where they are stylistically, I happen to think there is room for advancement. Have fun being angry for no reason. P.S. If you actually want to have a serious musical discussion (free of nitpicking descriptive terms), jumping on random youtube comments might not be the way to do it. But I suspect that isn't your interest/intent.
@@sticktrik each guy you’ve mentioned is completely different from each other. That list includes Marcus. They’re all at the fore front of jazz drumming pushing it further and further along. Marcus is exciting because he’s younger than all the other guys you mentioned. He’s still growing.
Ok I agree and how can this tone be achieved its so quick in attack and soft...I have that yamaha bop kit with an 18" kick...I'm tuning high with gaff tape even and there is just so much resonance. Not to mention the bass drum...it looks big and it sounds so quick and tuned up...
Seen this solo 1000 times not once have I was left mouth open jaw dropped hollering wow for something new and hearing and seeing something I haven't before in viewing this video unbelievable and always enjoyable thks Marcus and band accompany each other extremely well what a joy! wait a fly just flew in my mouth for my mouth is left open again the man is bad!
