I'm actually really surprised a guy like Marcus can explain this so well. More often than not, a great defender like him does a lot of his work on instinct, which is really hard to explain coherently. But Marcus' explanations made perfect sense to me. Excellent content!
@@elflacoaldair Not at all. All I'm saying is that it's usually pretty difficult explain a skill that you have a knack for that other people don't. For example, if you're born with a great sense of empathy, it's hard to understand why others can't show empathy like you can.
He def taught himself how to be a better defender. But you can tell slot of what he knows was just instinct. he knows his limits as a defender (the KD comment).
@@zayndot7288KD is pretty much the limit for any defender in NBA (1 on 1) so it's not like he admits it's his limit (it is everybody's limit) but says that what he shows probably won't work against centers (which is ok because he is a guard)
@@dparkertex bro... wdym nobody cares about defense. This is prolly more important bc youll stand out since nobody want to do it. The best player play both sides of the ball.
Nike signatures moves from the 2000s Era, it's a good reference, also there might be a random Chauncey Buillups better basketball DVD rip someone put online for free. I got made fun of for having them when I was younger but I mean.. it taught me alot.🤷🏿♂️
people will watch Mikey dunk on flight all day but this vid not even gonna get the millions of views it deserves, I'm not mad tho, advantage for the real hoopers
The Bible says in John 3:16-36 that whoever believes in the Lord Jesus Christ shall not perish but have everlasting life, the Bible also says in Romans 10:9 that those who declare with their mouth that Jesus Christ is their God, Lord, and Savior they shall be saved. Revelation 1:8 says that Jesus is the alpha and the omega. Luke and revelation is the ending times, and Jesus is returning back. So are you going to submit your life to him or no? Narrow is the path that leads to the gates of heaven, but only few people find it. The gates that is the path to destruction is where many people find it! Jesus loves you SO MUCH! That he died on the cross, and was resurrected from the dead 3 days later to give us eternal life..$..!..!.
I like that he's showing how the fundamentals of defense has changed. But he set himself apart when it comes to defense. I always observed him as being on a CP or a LeBron level of observation. For example, in the Raptors series in the bubble. He's the only one who saw how the final play of Game 3 was going to develop before the inbound happened.
marcus went to my high school and growing up here i always saw him at the gym pulling from half court making everything 😭 and here we are now. and when he was talking about lewisville had me dead 😭
Super beneficial and impactful video for anyone who want to improve their defense. In order to be a good defender, the first step is that you WANT TO PLAY DEFENSE!!! Great vid bro, Marcus Smart is one of the smartest players no pun intended
bout to hit up my local LA fitness and put these tips to the test. that was amazing. its crazy how he views each possession like a "battle" . in a game where there is constant back and forth, he views each one as its own interaction and will adjust accordingly to win it.
Definitely one of the last 'vets' of that Celtics rebuild regime when Ainge robbed the Brooklyn Nets of those draft picks. But a worthy one because his game as aged very well and has been a steady defensive presence for accountability along with Jaylen Brown. If the rest of the team aren't feeling his vibe playing D especially on the playoffs, the C's defense will crumble.
So happy he got a 4 year extension. Heart and soul of the team, longest tenured Celtics, voice of the Celtic. Just like Tommy would say MAAHHHCCUUUSS SMMAARRTT☘️. Let's go got to get this DPOY this year!
he's so passionate and you know he learned all that from experience like he came up with all the tricks in his bag. that's how I sound like when I teach my nephews ML
True ballers appreciate this content, it's amazing how much knowledge someone can give you. Little details that really makes the difference is amazing. This is what we need , keys to get better at the defense. Stamina, lateral quickness and the mentality that you are not going to score no matter what. They try and counter his defense but his mentality never changed, ain't scoring easy, but flexible enough to know when it ain't working or to change something
facts bro. This is what I yearn for even if people think this stuff is boring. I find this to be some of the most entertaining parts and one of the reasons why I love basketball so much!
I love how he’s teaching the mindset not just a move because defense is all about reading and countering. And your always at a disadvantage so you have to balance the scale. I’m loving that screen trick cause a red wouldn’t even catch that cause it looks like he reaching low but using the rollers momentum to recover space is genius
I'm trying to figure out if I liked this video better than watching Curry hit a bunch of 3s in a row in practice. I think I like this better. Very informative. He has a lot of tricks of the trade that I wish I would have incorporated when I played college ball. Much respect to him for providing this for free.
really cool to find out Marcus uses the same positioning and tactics when defending righties that i naturally came to use since high school, love the tips here. Unfortunately it means I always have to guard the other team's best player :P
Basically this is the most useful content on basketball defense I've ever seen in my life, thank you Ryan! This is insane, real hoopers understand the awesomeness
This is amazing. I can sense his wisdom through his movements and thinking, dude just talking casually while saying something complicated. I can also see his experience and hardships to get where he is right now. Big respect to him as a hooper.
Love this. I can play defense all day so hearing Smart talk about his methods is awesome. Thanks for posting. Can’t believe 2 people gave it a thumbs down.
Thx Ryan, Not many trainers out there posting defense tips n vids. It’s beginning to be winter soon n ion have no gym near me so yo got ideas on how to improve my shooting without a hoop? Of course I’ll still be shooting in games n in practice but we don’t have practice or games every day
I can't thanks you enough for this treasure . Having my favorite player teaching how he plays defense on your channel on top of that is just unreal man . Keep the grind , i'm new on your channel thanks to instagram 😊
Thanks for putting this out, for free nonetheless. I love Marcus to death, absolutely my favorite nba player and its always a treat to hear how well he can explain intricate concepts in his game
I love Marcus smart ! Such a great guy and such a great player , too much heart and passion for the game. So great to hear him talk about defense with so much love , now i know why he a Dawg on the court !
Omg this is such a breath of fresh air away from the glitzy AAU highlight reel no-defense stuff these days. This is gold. If I'm a young player this is the kind of stuff I'd look at to get an edge.
This is my favourite video of all time in RU-vid about defense!!! LITERALLY i love videos that last long with amazing tip and an nba player, brooooooooo!!!!!!!!! INASNEEEE VIDEOOOO, THANK YOU SO MUCH LEARNED A TON FR!! YOU DA GOAT R2
A very strong 6'3". Find videos of Porzingis trying to back down Smart and had to settle for a mid range fade away jumping AWAY from him! That is how even some big men who don't have that grown man strength and game can't take advantage of such a mismatch against players like Smart.
Take film sessions seriously so that y’all can really use these gems Smart just dropped. Especially y’all high school players, do whatever y’all can to understand how your opponent plays. Brings your game to a whole different level.
I really enjoy the player on the court and his growth, but now I'm fan. That's some huge proof of his knowledge and dedication to the game. And the will to share this knowledge too.
This is dope because you see a lot of ppl teach offense. This defense is lit. Like he said it may not work ever timw but it’s good to know. What u can do if the player switch up on u. This is definitely dope and helpful
