This version sounds so much better to me. It appears that the Producer for this, Jim Bentley, who also owned the studio where this was recorded, The Fort Brooklyn, passed/died in July of 2013. Maybe that was the reason the record couldn't be finished at the same studio. RIP Jim.

I agree the whole arrangement works very well. But c'mon, I cannot be de only one who misses the guitar hook that accompanies the "No matter whoooo" part of the chorus!!! it makes the song. Add that in there and its pure gold

Yes. Great song. Margaret is amazing. However, the result of the combination of everyone involved to create this presentation, has made it, for me, as good as the best of any pop recorded moment from anytime.

I agree here, this version is better- but with Emotions and Math I see Margaret making the very deliberate artistic decision to NOT emulate the soulful sounds she embodies in this recording and records like this one. It seems as though there was a shift in her musical identity, at least with this album. It's so easy to hear this and say "Oh, she is trying to sound like ___," but not so much with E&M. Still, this version is more enjoyable for me.

Totally - it's clearly a different backing band bringing their own style to the different sessions. So I guess the record version fits more in the context of the record, but this is so superior a version, it's barely worth comparing them. From the band's brevity of playing to the live recording, bleed, old mics etc, they've absolutely nailed a beautiful Motown vibe.

this sounded more mellow than the KEXP version and it suits the lyrics. this is a little bit better but i love both versions. glad ms. glaspy is getting her due. thanks for sharing.
