😂🤣 I had to see did she actually speak like the way they portrayed she doesn’t Evan sound like that wtf u can tell the show is pure bs if they over exaggerated her voice
i came here to listen to her voice after watching gillian in the crown..i was curious to see why thatcher talks like that...but now i think the makers have overdone her voice in the crown..even the facial expression of gillian is way too much...so unfair to the real figure
I absolutely agree! Gillian Anderson plays her as if she has had a stroke or something. She also plays her coldly, but Thatcher was not cold at all, typical of Lefty's to do this... I'm Indian and I love Thatcher and all she stood for.
@J LD exactly.. Im a millennial so when I found this out I was so shocked and knew that I was not hearing the truth about her. The fact is that people loved her, her own ministers eventually didnt have the balls (so to speak) to stick by her. But the radical Left which is now just the Left are delusional and suffer from cognitive dissonance. I wish the Tory party had someone like her today!
Sadly, Gillian Anderson’s impersonation of Margaret Thatcher was a narrow caricature which missed the nuances that made Thatcher such an engaging personality. She did not capture Thatcher’s twinkly eyes and smiles. She did not capture the speed or fluency of Thatcher’s delivery and the way she occasionally slowed down, deepened her voice and steadied her gaze in order to emphasise an important point. If Thatcher had been anything like the living corpse that Gillian Anderson has given us, she would have bored everyone to death and would not have been elected PM three times in 1979, 1983 and 1987.
@@Perksofbeingglow sorry, I watched that film a long time ago and I didn't even like it, but anyways. Streep's accent was good but it sounded rather odd, maybe a little bit off and distracting whereas Gillian's accent is very good but of course, she's half brit.
@chitsb I was thinking exactly the same thing. I wanted to see if she really talked that slowly, and I think even Gillian Andersen's hairdo was overdone
@@christophermcdonough8320 I'm so sorry that another country's leader dared to comment on the US's economic policies. Not like they have an impact on the rest of world.
Here for the same reason Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan were in office in my high school and early college years. When I saw The Crown's portrayal of Thatcher, my first reaction was, "That was not lady I remembered." She is horribly portrayed in The Crown.
Love or hate her on her political ideology/policy, you have to admit - MT never wavered from answering difficult questions, never tried to be something she was not it or tried to please anybody for the sake of pleasing others. And was honest in her answers. Never promised unrealistic ideals, which some leaders are too prone to do. As a South African 🇿🇦 It's dissapointing she didn't sign sanctions against Apartheid as part of the commonwealth but will ALWAYS have mad respect for her as a woman in a man's world. I mean it's badass to negotiate on nuclear weapons, work really hard toward wanting a war free world (well for the 80s that is). There are many woman today in varying institutions working in the global political arena working towards the same. #breakingtheceiling
She didn't support sanctions because she believed sanctions inadvertently hurt the poorest most. And in effect, she was right if we look around the world where sanctions have been applied (eg. Cuba, etc).
@@jaredt8526 I half agree with you on that point. The thing is the ANC and other freedom fighting movements were fighting for political freedom first at the time. The ANC's policy was first to gain political freedom and then work towards economic freedom. However, after gaining political freedom, and even though they have been in power for all of our democratioc dispensation, they have not achieved this. So I understand why she was not for it because what happens after gaining political freedom? So yes, she was right in the long-term, but she could have helped towards political freedom at least? Her views on the ANC and other political struggle heroes was also not favourable. But that is a debate for another time entirely that I am not equipped to argue about that just yet and this is also a very nuanced and complex issue to discuss. And even though South Africa did not gain economic freedom yet, the way the west likes to do things is just leave their mess where they made it. So I half agree with you.
As an American I would be so interested in Mrs. Thatcher's analysis of President Trump. I think she would give very insightful comments. Of course she would absolutely NOT be suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome!
I'd like to ask Trump what he thinks of Thatcher. I find her absolutely inspiring. She was one of the greatest leaders of the 20th Century. The last leader that Britain had that made that country a serious global superpower, rather than a secondary player to Russia/China and the US. Britain used to matter, and she did the very best anyone had in nearly 30 years prior to her to make her matter again.
@@Lieutenant_Dude I'm sure President Trump has an extremely high opinion of Prime Minister Thatcher. He likes and truly respects people like her and what she did for the U.K.!
@@johnscanlan9335 Drumpf has high opinion of only one person. Himself. Everyone else is Sad, Dump, Loser etc And you sir are an idiot for placing such significance on that charlatan clown
Find me a single thing you know about trump that you didn't hear in the media. Marx himself would refer to these fools as 'useful idiots'. Thatcher would have supported Trump 100%
She was an incredible and amazing politician(and woman in general). She made a great contribution to the world. Her story is the best example for us. P.S. IMHO She has a Russian pronunciation a little.))) P.S.S I"M FOND OF INTERVIEWER'S VOICE!
Baroness Thatcher was well educated, articulate, radiated confidence even when under attack by Brit journos. She had poise, and, grace that came naturally. Neither Meryl Streep,or,Anderson could EVER play a role...and it was play acting, that was anything like the very real Margaret Thatcher. Last night I listened to the very first interview, I have on CD,after she became Prime Minister. Some ratbags would do well to listen to some of her real interviews, and, forget about the stupid movie portrayal. Get the Audio book if you are for real. It's free. It's superb.
She was without a doubt an extremely articulate, highly intelligent woman. So, with all the footage available to her to watch and listen to, why did Gillian Anderson manage to single handedly derail The Crown, by playing Mrs Thatcher as a pantomime dame, and give one of the most ridiculous on screen performances on television in recent memory. And why was she allowed to get away with it?
What a lady. It must be a hard job to use tax payers money and use it wisely, which I believe she has done, and spend it to fund the NHS, education/schools, defence, social security etc etc and still keep every one happy. There are many big mouths who have something to say and yet she got up to PM and did something about her passion for the people. I personally loved her.
I'm 20 years old. It brings me great pain that my generation don't just dislike but despise Margaret Thatcher. The greatest peacetime Prime Minister this country has ever had without a doubt, it isn't even close. My generation will suffer the consequences of their poorly thought out preferences.
It's so incredible how she could switch from lofty foreign policy discussion to highly specific domestic economic questions and answer the questions effortlessly. I can't imagine any politician doing that today. If RFK Jr. won the 2024 election, I could maybe see him doing it, but it would be tainted by the stench of appeasement in his foreign policy beliefs.
Gillian Anderson does not cut it. She is an insult to Baroness Thatcher. D Margaret Thatcher was one of the most articulate, composed women ever to grace British parliament. Forget Streep....forget Gillian Anderson. Watch the genuine speeches on you tube. Neither of them will EVER "get" her voice. One would need her education, and poise...naturally.
I think the actress in the Crown really nailed it. It is different, of course, but she captured something. I heard the voice and was like "meh", and then she kept talking for just a few seconds and it was there..! Good job
Vine a ver como hablaba porque en la serie habla como si tuviera 100 años y le costara mucho hablar... y ella no hablaba asii... error de casting como los ojos de la reina que ya no son azules... 😵🤷♀️
I think her heart attack was caused when she discovered the new world order that's happening, I wish she hadn't invented the pole tax but appsrt from that I think she's great
Really good for England but Ireland got colonised and when it was time to give ireland its independence she didn't want that. Horrible human been she is
1) You can’t even spell her name: 🤣. 2) Her election victories and achievements were in the 1980s: what happened in 2013 is irrelevant. 3) everyone will die. You too 🤣.
The amount of thatcher love here is making me feel lots of people forget she was best mates with Pinochet and Saville and knew what they both had done.
She had no idea about Jimmy Savile’s evil crimes at the time. All political leaders make mistakes: Corbyn was a big fan of autocrat Fidel Castro. Blair took Britain into Iraq: a far worse deed than anything Thatcher ever did.
@@___Victoria_sunny it wasn't that successful. The type of elite, "grand" accent she developed only served to make her seem out of touch, posh, unrelatable - but without the charm of, say, The Queen.
Mrs Thatcher was not only beautiful but had the finest brain in the country. Even though she genuinely adored the monarchy it is understandable that the Queen felt intimidated by her. The Queen had no proper education and obviously felt intimidated by her. The series TheCrown showed what a foolish lot the royals were and how crude and ignorant they were in treating their guests. The film The Iron Lady was unacceptable . There should have been a film made celebrating all her brilliant qualities. I am old now but Margaret Thatcher was to me one of the best women in the past and present years. If only we could find someone else with her qualities.
That's what I was thinking! I thought, they should've allowed Olivia to play Thatcher and some other actress who resembles Claire Foy, to play The Queen.
@@joshportnoy8102 no, Josh, Gillian’s performance is like a living corpse. Just look at this interview - Thatcher is far lighter in tone and less funereal and has a twinkle and smile at times and only occasionally slows down her voice and deepens it in order to emphasise a particularly point.
@@davidlondon2810 i don't think the imitation matters so much as the impression. From the little I know about acting, she's doing a method acting style where she's adapting the character to her. But you can tell it a great performance when she gives you genuine anxiety at certain moments particularly when she's listening to what the queen said in the news and went "really?" Like you can feel this person is a serious threat, you don't want to mess with. And that's where I find the perfomance was well captured.
There needs to be a middle ground. Nowadays there seems to be an assumption that a politician must be lying and so it becomes trying to get a “GOTCHA!” moment This interview is too deferential; Thatcher is given quite substantial time to answer and her answers are not actually challenged or dissected any further. There needs to be a balance - Politicians need to be given room to answer a question; but interviewers should also be able to push back when answers are unsatisfactory
Jeez she is so on top of every answer. Love her or loathe her, she knew her brief in incredible detail;. Dimbleby doesn't land many blows here, whereas he would trample most of our politicians today.
But far more people liked her. You don't win 3 General Elections in a row by being so unpopular. If people looked at Jeremy Corbyn and his supporters, with all their chanting, you would have thought he was incredibly popular and sure to win the 2019 Election. And we all know how that worked out. Personal popularity is not as important as trust in politics and the people with their childish and vitriolic attacks on Margaret Thatcher should, perhaps, grow up.
Like many others, I’m here to compare Gillian Anderson’s portrayal to the real Iron Lady. It’s a terrible, wheezy characterization. She must have needed an inhaler after filming every scene.😏
@@alessandram9367 Exactly. Gilliand's character looks like she's about to burst in tears, she was nervously swallowing, her chin was unaturally trembling. It was awkward to watch her.
As Harold MacMillan said of her: "Now there's a real leader. Whether she's leading in the right direction....." So many of the problems we face today can be directly traced back to what she did.
@@jimneil2458 nah, I can't get behind any political party, there's too much good & bad with both sides. They're there to cause division, for example you hear me talk about someone I believe to be an evil person and you instantly come act me assuming I give the slightest fuck about politics
She sounds absolutely NOTHING like on the crown, I thought maybe she had something wrong, and I wanted to make sure she actually talked SLOOOOOOOOW and DRAAAAAAWWN out.. but she doesn't.. just sounds like an old british lady
I love her. I wish should would have been ours. If this were an American interview, she would have been pestered by personal and irrelevant questions, constantly interrupted and timed like a three minute egg.
O cara...kkkkk o cara é patético. Eu hein.
Why does the woman in ‘the crown’ exaggerates Thatcher’s voice so badly? It’s so weird I just came here to check if Thatcher actually speaks like that but she speaks totally normal
She aged very well throughout her tenure, but I would argue she dressed older than her age for quite some time. A classic look, but slightly mumsy. Theresa May dressed appropriately for her age, but still had a modern/stylish twist
Aye. Poplar in England... you sir are an idiot. There was a massive street party in Glasgow when she died and the number 1 song in Britain was “ding ding the witch is dead” She sounds so popular
@@tonyoliver4920 So now you feed off of memes and actually execute them in reality. Congratulations for being subjugated to the internet leftist propaganda machine. When we listen to those that advocate for government to provide, they always say the more must be given. But in order for government to give more, the government must take more.
God I'm glad English people don't actually talk like this. I like the fact she is answering questions, why am I watching this thinking if bumbling boris johnson spoke about nec it would be Hmm umm umm Hmmm hmm Just that.
