I think your POV is flawed for the reason Thatcher was so hated; party political narratives. Most conservatives aren't sceptics but the anti-conservative media arent going to tell you that. The difference is how we achieve better, deliverable outcomes and the anti-conservative media call anyone with a different approach, deniers, rather than sceptics. Sceptics still engage in change, deniers dont.

What makes you think conservatives are against taking action? Everyone wants clean air, water etc.. Conservatives would prefer solutions that actually work rather than wind and solar which are only enormous fiscal drains on all of us.

@@joemccarthy7120 Conservatives in many countries - especially my own - have fought tooth and nail against any form of climate change action. In fact, they rolled back a free market solution that we'd implemented here (carbon trading scheme), which they themselves had supported about a decade earlier. So, conservatives have a pretty terrible track record around this - on the science, and on practical solutions. I think Thatcher would be appalled by many modern conservatives. To the extent that folks are going back to her wise messages here as forms of inspiration...that can only be a good thing.

After all, the right-wing media is constantly obstructing and obfuscating any meaningful action or discussion on climate change. If conservatives - of Thatcher's ilk - really care about climate change and believe in the science, then I think they should be putting pressure on conservative networks to convey their true feelings.

The fact that Margaret Thatcher was the first to introduce the subject is absolute proof that it's a load of BS. CO2's part of the greenhouse effect is minuscule in comparison to that of water vapor. And for that matter the greenhouse effect does not drive the climate. Ozone is a genuine issue and CFCs should be banned. But that has nothing to do with carbon dioxide. Notice the threat to poor countries that their forests belong to the whole earth not to them. Also notice the push for nuclear power. This was just after her big battle with the coal miners in the UK. She wanted to end dependence upon coal and oil and to break the unions of the coal miners. Nobody, including Thatcher ever imagined doing away with fossil fuels. What they want to do is seize control of all oil gas and coal from the countries where it exists and transfer that power to their NWO global governance. _

More to the point only four pits ever actually balloted on the proposals her Government put forward and they actually voted in favour. Scargill couldn't have that and in fact the seeds of the strike were sown on the night of the 1983 General Election where Scargill called for a revolution on the streets to overthrow the newly elected Government. Just have a think about that, the miners were pawns in his political ambitions.

In Europe kids were taught about global warming in the 1980s. Every kid in Europe knew this back then. I wrote an essay about global warming in 1986 when I was 14. (I still have the essay in a drawer). "The future will have more flooding, higher winds, more droughts etc. due to the release of CO2"... This was well known in the 80s, now we see it daily live. Should be undeniable, but people still do not believe their own eyes. There was climate change denial in America. Now the climate deniers state "the climate is changing, but is it man-made?" YES... It was predicted in 1977 by Exxonmobil in 1977.. Please check out this fact. For anybody denying climate change, read Exxon´s studies and ask yourself, "they predicted it in 1977, now it is happening. Is the man-made release of C02 causing climate change really something you can deny?"

One would think it had not been mentioned before the twenty first century. If the industries and governments of the world hadn't dragged their feet then scientists and environmentalists wouldn't have to be badgering us to knuckle down.

She was a bloody force. Perhaps a GOAT. She made mistakes but she was so talented, that people need to focus on heavily on those mistakes because otherwise, people might learn how brilliant she really was.

As much as she has been demonised (and there are good reasons to find fault with her), when one compares her to any British politican today (especially Tories) pretty much any of the current crop seem embarrassing. She gave this very long speech with good diction, no "erms" or faltering, intelligent and important words describing the issue in depth and considerable detail rather than sound bites. Can you imagine any Tory today trying to do this? They wouldn't have the oratory skill or gravitas, and Sunak would in any case be too scared fo fear of upsetting part of the electorate (a war on motorists, don't you know) :) Today it's all vague concepts, often completely at odds with what the same speaker had actually done a week before (again I refer to Sunak; with his claim to be taking decisions for the long term, not scared about whether the electorate didn't like it, when he'd just pushed back the deadline for selling new ICE cars!).

I agree, I cannot imagine any subsequent UK politican speaking so brilliantly without pause or stumble for a prolonged length of time. She was greatly impressive in her ability, not to mention she was putting this important subject centre stage and giving its due emphasis.

Every PM and Government leaves people behind and makes mistakes, it's impossible not to but I believe if people researched all the good things she did, people would have a very different view of her. She was a force and quite frankly, the best PM the UK ever had.

@@uptwisting It is an amazing speech. Don't get too carried away though. She was hugely talented, clever and great orator. None of this msttered a fig if you lived in tbe North of England in hervera. She ruthlessly create a two tier nation as never before destroying community after community with exactly the same precision and clarity as we see here. We will never recover from the damage she did to us as a whole nation. This piece is immaculately informed and performed so that possibly at last she was exactly the force required at that time. It is significant that her business driven government tore her apart only a year later.

​@@sarahtacy9045 She certainly made huge mistakes, which looking back with 2021 climate eyes, some may see as inspiring eg-the pits, but they were going to close anyway as they were broadly unprofitable. We couldve let them go on, I do agree but this was a battle of ideology and neither side wanted to give. People forget the unions role in this. They ultimately harmed their cause too. She made decisions she thought had to be made which some socialists would've approved of, eg-saving British Leyland but it's correct that equity was not retained and some products of that save went on to be profitable for non-British business. Labour did the same when they failed to save Rover and risk is not something government do well. Her ousting was typical politics, which all parties get involved in and the Poll Tax ensured she was cornered. There is no significance, only opportunism. I'm from an immigrant family and Thatcher helped us hugely, so it's not as easy to say 'two tier'. We went from nothing, to establishing lives. To say 'we will never recover' is ridiculous. We have every opportunity to recover and the world is a very different place. We will never recover if people keep putting party politics above policy. The clip in question shows how to put policy before party politics and should serve as inspiration. 42 years on and people would still pigeonhole Thatcher, than learn how she achieve success. Shame on us.

Do you mean wear and tear? Are you trying to talk about the good young Ms. Greta Thunberg? If the latter is right, then, I don't know what you mean by "screeching and screaming"; I've only ever heard her sound much, much more sane and sensible than by far most politicians and certainly all climate deniers. And if she ever did sound bothered or upset, fair play to her, too. I agree with you I did not like her. Never voted for her. Respected her as a leader. I realise I am getting old when I start agreeing on some of her points. But she was wrong about smashing the Unions to the level she did and the privatisations which were in fact E.C influenced.

@@b.adebisi1393 Yep, regarding the unions and privatisations, they were a mistake which didn't take into account the damage they caused to communities and that privatisation, by and large, hasn't brought the benefits that were hoped. The trains and water boards are a good example of that, the privatisation of those sectors can hardly be considered a success, however mediocre they were before privatisation.

I dont agree. I think they broadly agree but many anti-conservatives ignore the science which stifles whole change, such as having enough power to meet need, or ensuring change is affordable. You know, those things that non-conservatives use as a moral weapon to destroy debate & vilify the opposition.

And she'd be flabbergasted at how terrible politicians - most notably in her own party - are at public speaking.
