Lovely video 👍 I used to visit Margate several times a year with my parents when I was a child as my Auntie and Uncle lived just down the road in Deal. Unfortunately both my Auntie and Uncle have sadly passed away so we no longer visit the area as 99% of my family live in Staffordshire the same as me. I can’t really remember too much about Margate as I was very young but this video has given me the urge to visit again…which I will definitely do this summer…thanks for rekindling old memories 👍🇬🇧

Used to go to Margate every Christmas as a child. We always stayed at The Grand, which was one of 3 Butlins hotels on the Front. Many good memories of being there with my whole family on Christmas Day and the filmed American horse races you used to be able to bet on ❤

I'm not exactly sure where, but it was in the bay I think. I think it was destroyed in a storm back in the 70's.

I visited margate 1st when i was a child in the 70s..it was AMAZING. Went back in 2003..was a complete and utter tip of a place. Broken glass all over the beach, Beggers and drug addicts everywhere and shops and cafes boarded up . Everything was derelict and the dreamland was on the verge of closing ...was a nightmare. Went back last year and i swear to you..i thought i was in a altogether different resort to 20 years earlier. Beach was spotless as was the streets. Eateries and cafes were superb. Attractions were open ..grotto and caves , the dreamland amesment park, the amesments along the seafront, and the turner museum and tge smell of fish n chips and candty floss everywhere..Wow what a transformation. Im definitely heading back this year!! Ps.. thats for the videos. Keep em coming.

😎I am so glad to know you have a PA. We stayed in Broadstairs and walked to Margate, when it was a dump with most of the general shops closed down. It is so much better now and lively. I wonder if any one remembers the Double Ferris Wheel in Dreamland.

Thank you for this. It's great to vicariosly relive my old home town :) As you say, it is super cool to move to Margate, but finding somewhere to live will be very challenging. Still, well worth it if you succeed.

Down to Margate. I love that part of Kent and Sussex. I lived in the area for 20 odd years. Lots of vintage and 🎨 and great cafe's. All that guff about Margate is over now. All the towns down the Kent coast are great 👍.

In answer to your questions... Yes! I have only been once, when I was 6 years old - am now 43! So yes, it has changed completely - well based on 37 year old memories!? I remember the Shell Grotto-CLOSED, the funfair-CLOSED, but the beach was vast and I loved our hotel which had an enormous bathroom window and stunning floor tiles... I can't even pick that hotel out now, I must ask Dad if he remembers its name. Anyway, I've waffled on too long, great video as ever, many thanks 😊👍🏻

@@GimbalWalkTV I’d never heard it till covid and I’m a 65 year old, it then became everybody’s catch phrase, the only way to keep safe after covid was not to take the medical intervention (ex pharmaceutical pilot plant employee)

Only thing that puts me off going to beaches that are busy is barking dogs, as hear barking dogs nearly every day... And just want to get away from that noise, so I normally go to charmouth and walk along the beach while the kids are all still at school as less people around.

I took my wife my grown-up son my grown-up daughter to Margate on the 29th of June. It was chaos. Dreamland wasn’t open. They had some think on there too many people down there really noisy couldn’t walk about much with my poor old legs. Stay there till 3 o’clock And on the way to the station there was still people coming in. I was glad to get home for a nice cup of tea.

The seaweed in the harbour always stinks, beyond vile. Living near margate, i find it a one trick pony with the whole place surviving on "art", only problem is they always seem to forget to put which primary school it came from lol. We now only ever goto Margate for wetherspoons, especially now the brewers fayre is closed to non premier inn guests. Dreamland only seems interested in the concerts and not the funfair too nowadays. Much prefer nearby Herne Bay for a day out.
