I just happened to catch this when my husband was watching SNL four years ago. Since then I've been to three Margo Price concerts (meeting her once!) And discovering other amazing artists like Sturgill Simpson, Colter Wall, Tyler Childers and Aaron Lee Tasjan. ♥️♥️♥️
Just got Strays II and read Margo's memoir "Maybe We'll Make It". Incredible. She and Jeremey Ivy are making the best music out there. I can't wait to see the Price Tags live.
Seriously, I don't cry to music often but something about her songs... The music and lyrics just seem to speak to a part of me that is hurt'n for something real and truthful and I'm finding it in her music.
Amen brother! I hate new country, but I love old country - or as my uncle always called it, "drankin' music". This is what real country music is supposed to sound like. Shades of Patsy, Loretta, et al. Love it!
***** 1. Thanks for being rude. 2. Margo Price (Band) is on Jack White's Third MAN Records. Recorded at Sun Studio and then picked up by Jack White. Even if he's "garbage" he knows good music when he hears it out of the mainstream. My other favorite artist at this time is another one on 3rd Man, Karen Elson.
My first Margo Price experience was at ACL this weekend, during Hall of Fame induction. I am hooked, love that old country sound. Not the pop hack stuff these days. Thanks MP
Not really. Most "new" country is garbage. The reason you like this is because it's reminiscent of old country the likes of Patsy, Loretta, Faron Young, etc. When all the singers sounded different and the songs were different. Now new country is just mass produced bubble gum pop, for all intents and purposes. This hearkens back to real country music, when it was really called "drankin music" by real "good ol' boys". There are some others out there like her, making the real thing, but it's no different from anything else. Fast food/garbage country or real food/real country.
I dunno it's so much getting it as it is personal taste. Anyone into mainstream "country" today probably doesn't like old county anyway.. If they don't that's their business. I'm just glad I love real, old country and the newer stuff that hearkens back to it. You think Patsy and Loretta would like most of the corporate crap today or this? It's pretty obvious.
Such a refreshing change from modern country music. Modern country music seemed to take a big turn for the worse in the early '90s. Not ALL of it but most of it. Top 40 country music is embarrassing. It's the same song written 40 different ways. (drivin' in my pickup, listenin' to the radio etc etc etc).
Well, that you performed live on SNL, when so many seem to lip synch (or else you and your whole band are excellent at synching), just that scores you a mountain of kudos. I've loved your music since I first heard you and grooving on the new album now. Performances like this are why I think you and your band are great. Wonderful songs and superb playing. Thanks for the constant reaffirmation that great music and musicians are still out there!
One of the best Country albums of 2016 yes, But have you heard A Sailor's Guide To Earth by Sturgill Simpson and Hero by Maren Morris? Yes, it's so sad she didn't get any single nominee.
L.P. was great, but my favorite is definitely It Ain't Drunk Driving if You're Riding a Horse. Fantastic voice, great rhythm. Thanks for everything you do :)
One of the best contemporary country singers is not played on country radio! Not enough "God bless America/drinking whisky from paper cup/rural over city/etc." cliches I guess. Kudos to SNL for doing what the right wing country radio chooses to not recognize.
I'm typically on the "I can't stand country" side (though I fucks with Willie/Merle/George(s)/Conway/Hank etc)....I did not think this kind of Country existed anymore. Hope nothing but success for this young lady. Please don't go "pop.
Guess what, gang? if you like Margo Price, you like the most traditional sounding country I've heard in like.... forever. I hear Waylon Jennings and George Jones in her album. ...and that is meant as the most sincere compliment I can muster.
There's actually a pretty active underground for true country right now. Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, Margo, Jason Isbell, and Jade Jackson have all been killing it the past year or two!
