Sadly as a woman who likes metal we do get treated a little unfairly by some people because of our interests. Sometimes I get embarrassed to bring up my music tastes around other women because they react similarly to this video. I don't need that kind of passive aggressive attitude in my life.
Sod them, they just don't get it. I had it as a kid in school, a girl said"metal is shit" and threw my def Leppard cassette in the school pond so I threw her in until she retrieved it.
I don't need anyone's approval do I don't fear bringing up my music. If they don't like it, then I don't care. I don't need their approval. This video was harmless compared to what I have seen. I wasn't even offended.
That's true to most of us. My sister was one of my influence to metal but now she's no longer one of us, unfortunately. She stopped listening to any metal and all she listens to now is pop music. That is sad.
@@irrelevantdumbass5307. Nah, I beg to differ. I think there are people out there who grow out of listening to stuff like that, but that does not mean I don't think it sounds cool, I think people over time stop listening because a lot of it gets repetitive if you are not looking around more. I never liked metal for a while until I heard of Christian hard rock and metal. Stryper hits so much harder than the modern garbled demonic screaming. Metal is so Satanic, it is disgusting.
I'm 52, and still a metalhead. I will die a metalhead. There are so many people that just don't get metal music, and will never understand it, but....we like it that way.
That's what we tell ourselves but truth is I light up when I find a fellow metalhead and and also try to get every friend I make into it, I've only succeeded with 2 but it's pretty impressive I even managed that considering how close minded most normies are
The fun thing is, heavy metal actually shares a lot of things with baroque and early classic music (symphonic structure, variety and complexity of arrangements), while the really simple music is actually pop and the Strauss Kitsch.
Exactly 👏👏 in todays world of music apart from classical arrangements. Metal would have to be up there being the more complex compared to the genres that are mainstream. Complex timing, jazz /blues themes. Speed but also the challenge on how to play it …. No computers involved. It’s the hard labour of music
As an older, lifelong metalhead I would tell any younger people out there into this music don't give a flying F what other people think of it. Metal isn't for everybody. Some people -- maybe most people -- will never get it. Don't apologize. Don't try to explain why it's awesome. Just enjoy it and let others think or say what they will. There are always people that will pick at you because you listen to this type of music. Shrug it off. Like what you like and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. Your family and friends may ride you over it. Live with the slings and arrows and if need be find some people that like what you like. We're out here. Some people say metal is dead but the fact that there are still more metal bands out there than even the most diehard fan can know says otherwise.
Even IF it were “dead”, that’s just another opinion. No need to even prove whether it’s “dead” or not, just rock out to what u love. Arguing over whether it’s dead or not is really just another argument for whether it’s popular and it never will be. That’s one of the many perks of metal. It’s not some “fad” or bubblegum “cool” shit to flaunt for a few months. Those of us who love it, love it, and it doesn’t matter AT ALL whether it’s considered cool or whether it has more up and coming artists or sales or whatnot. It’s not going anywhere and neither are we 🤘🏻🖕🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻❤❤
no need to stick up for her Im an 80's metal head the more people say shit like this the more peole listen to metal would you stop liking metal if Kate said that to you makes me like it more so what is there to stick up for
As a metal fan I have nothing against her for this. I think because Margot started off joking, she was just trying to keep the energy up by joking around with her. She’s just clearly very unfamiliar with metal as many people are.
I laugh when ppl say that metal shows aren't safe and ppl are there to just hurt you in the pit. I've been picked up and even blocked to tie my shoe. 😆 🤣
I’ve been picked up at metal shows but I’ve also been on the receiving end of some unnecessary roughness that could be probably classified as actual assault a couple times. Metal shows are just like any other gathering of people. Some are nice and others are dicks.
I went to a Megadeth Show. I got separated from my daughter during the show and next to the pit. I said out loud " shit I cant find my daughter. within 15 seconds there were , I kid you not 12 guys fanning out to find her. I hear a shout from acroos the venue with-in 2 mins. This big bald ..beautifull broth had her close by his arms and was standing with her. the area cleared for me and I walked50 feet untouched and clear to meet her. Im older and I do the pit> my daughter wanted to get closer and with my back I could not get in a large crowd like my younger days. The awsomeyoung man and two buddies got her to the front, and protected her for the rest of the set...texting me she was secure and her new big brothers got her back!!!! these boys are still my freinds and I just got the big guy a Job with me working Iron work as hers got a baby on the way!! yeah..metal, monster trucks and family!!!
Gotta say, I've watched your channel since you first started. It's amazing to see how much it's grown from a single guy giving reports to a full blown channel covering all aspects of rock music. Well done man! 👏
i even thought monster trucks were just the first thing to popped into her mind trying to make a bad joke about something beeing made of metal aswell as beeing heavy.
Yeah, Blanchett was just trying to capture the moment and look witty. I cannot say enough in defense of Margot by sticking to her guns and defending her love of Metal. She seems to 'get it' and know that there is a lot more beneath the surface when it comes to our beloved genre of music. Margot, you have a standing invitation to drop in to my house and spend an evening discussing and listening to Heavy Metal music. I would highly recommend letting me spin some of my original Japanese vinyl releases with Grado headphones as the experience is simply sublime. Cocktails are on the house! 🤘👍
Margot you legend. Not once did she downplay the fact she is a Metalhead. I'm a 54 year old wife and mother. I've seen Slipknot 3 times and my current obsession is Lorna Shore. Will Ramus is the bomb! 🤘😎🤘
Not only does Margot stand up for heavy metal - she still fan-girls over the fact her husband was an extra, in one of the Harry Potter movies. What a doll.
I'm a thirty-seven year old black dude from DC and have been listening to heavy metal since I was 11, which earned alot of weird looks. Slipknot has been my favorite band since I heard tattered and torn. Heavy metal is a genre that reminds those who are going through things that someone out there feels the EXACT same way
I am 42 years old and I still buy Vinyls, CDS and go to concerts, not as much as I did in my 20s, but I will be an old man headbanger for the rest of my days on this earth.
@@rubenerstrom8059 me too. Got into metal at age 11 (it was the first time I heard slayer) and I’m now 43 (44 in a few days time) and the metal in my veins still flows 🤘
Same. Started at 7-8 years old, when AC/DC and Van Halen were introduced to me. "Jump" was all over MTV, and a neighbor had "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". "Big Balls" was the funniest thing I'd heard up to that point to my young ears, and Eddie was the coolest guy ever, to me. Turning 46 in a few weeks.
54-year-old male and I am a total metal head. Also love 60s and 70s music as well. Margot Robbie is awesome and should not be judged for loving metal music. Too many people are judged for their personal music choices.
I just posted a comment basically saying my non metal head friends thought I was into monster truck rallies and wrestling because I liked metal but they literally only thought that because they considered those to be “hardcore” things. I’m a girl and my friends were also so I don’t think they were going that route but maybe Cate was just making that association. I don’t think she meant the statement in a mean way tbh
I am not a big follower of slipknot I am a Dutch hardcord/gabber fan but I 100% appreciate how creative and how much they are an influence within the heavy metal scene. People disrespect these scenes and how people that are in to th heavy style of music but I have not met a better crowd in my life. I have seen bands like Oasis live and their fans are shocking throwing cups of piss over people just for a laugh. I have never seen that type of behaviour at any heavy metal gig at any rave before. So I dont get why there is such a bad name towards people that like heavy music. At the end of the day we all have a metronome in our minds that tunes in to the sound and speed we enjoy
That's what I find really confusing as, in my opinion, Cate is trying to portrait metal music as something that isn't 'real' art or 'serios' art.. making the monster truck comparison is almost like trying to make it sound cheap and simple, perhaps childish, like a quick and simple thrill. Obviously as we know metal music isn't any of this, there is lots of depth and complexity that is spun across its multi genres.. yet a respected and known artist is trying to make a very sweeping statement while her own opposed musical tastes, if are as charty as I think they are, would be very shallow and schematic... Where was she really going with this? Can one provide critique with zero insight?
Little do people know about the big metal festivals like Download, Wacken, Bloodfest, Reading and etc. Just because one listens to metal more than pop or Hip Hop doesn't mean that the one who listens to metal is lesser. Anything the vocabulary of a metal song is higher than a modern pop song
People who have never really experienced true pain and turmoil in life will never understand the beauty and therapeutic nature of rock and metal music. Cate must be one of those people just like the Kardashian/Jenna plastics.
Heavy metal saves lives! Heavy music in general. I take my aggressions out on the machines at the gym now. If I hadn’t had heavy music to work through issues I might not be here! I respect Cate as an actress but her elitism is showing…
All I can say is Metal saved my life several times I was in a Dark place and when I listened to metal it really uplifted me in powered me to fight and pull myself out of what was going on I’m 49 and still headbang like sex my metal has gotten harder and darker kinkier lol
Hey I just wanna say I like this newer format where we see you at the desk. I also still like the traditional format you've used. I think a healthy mix of both would be really cool here on the channel. Keep up the stellar work!!!!
Not even a fan of Margot, but if she's a maggot or just a metalhead, she's one of us. Thanks for standing up for us, Margot. We're standing right there with you. Screw everyone who trys to dunk on us metalheads for liking what we like. I can sh!t on pop fans for daaayyys, but I don't. That much. As much as I used to.
Lol I can't believe we're glossing over the most baffling, goofy thing she said, which was "Does anyone like heavy metal music?" Like WTF DOES THAT EVEN MEAN????
She should have said, "absolutely not, those millions of fans who have bought millions and millions and millions and millions of records, and have gone to hundreds of thousands of concerts were doing it just to confuse you Cate/Kate"
In all of my years as a metal fan (thanks to my dad playing Sabbath for me when I was wee), I have always felt safe. I went to a Metallica show during the black album and a guy decided to start hitting ladies in the pit. I felt someone lift me up out of the pit and stood in front of me to protect me and a few other guys took care of the a-hole in the pit. I did get hurt at a Morrissey show. His fans are rude AF. It really gets me when people badmouth metal due to their bias and ignorance. 🤘
It's always amazed me in mosh pits how people can go from smashing the crap out of you to trying to save you if you lose your footing. Then once they're sure you're safe they start beating the crap out of you again. Good times.
As a female who goes to a variety of different shows, I agree with you. Metal pits tend to contain the most protective and genuine people. I suspect that it's all the crowdsurfing that works as a teambuilding exercise lol I always end up having such wonderful people around me who treat me like a longtime friend. Other shows, it's usually feels more hostile and cutthroat.
I don't think Cate was trying to be disrespectful. She actually reminded me of my parents when I first got into metal. To people used to hearing softer, non distorted music, I can see how metal can come off initially as a wall of loud noise, much like a monster truck rally would. But hey, after hearing me listen to my music enough times, my mom grew to like it. She even liked some of it enough to buy her own metal albums. So who knows, maybe Kate is a metal fan in the making.
I'd never apologise for what I love and at the same time i'd never look down on anyone else's passions and opinions. Greetings from Trinidad and Tobago. 🤘
Bro you killed me with "what the f*** did monster trucks do" also I got to tour the Grave Digger shop last summer, it's in the outer banks area, highly recommend 🤘🏼 but back to topic Margot being genuinely herself no matter what is what makes her own the greatest entertainers but also it lines up with loving metal right? Like I always say, I love metal so much as artist and as a listener because it's open game, nothing is off limits, we are all broken so express that! 🖤
When I met my (ex) wife she was into pretty much everything except metal, I got her into it pretty quickly just by taking her to live shows and exposing her to the real and raw culture of metal. She was mocked by her friends but after 2-3 years my brothers and I planned our annual trip to hit the metal festivals and we found ourselves needing two extra vehicles for all the females we had "converted". For the first time we were outnumbered by the ladies and it was a thing of beauty. We're still best friends but now she has re-married and converted her new husband (a die hard country lover) into a metal head. Just thinking of how many lives changed from me putting on "The end of heartache" and "my curse" by killswitch engaged when I first met her... it's wild! (We're all good friends to this day and going to shows/ festivals is basically our version of family reunions) "Rock out with your cock out and Jam out with your clam out" 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I guess theses people didn't hear about what happened when MGK went up against slipknot and there fans Slipknot has the most loyal down right biggest fan base of this generation now I seen this clip blow up so far and you can tell by her reaction she does genuinely like metal and slipknot she stood up for all of us and in return we got her back for life she is part of the family now.
First time viewer, you have a very fair and level way of expressing your views which is refreshing, yeah I've been listening to Slipknot since "99" and I live in a small town, I get that strange way people perceive metal heads, I have to say I like cate as an actor but it's hard not to be offended by her comments.
They say that mathematics is the language of the universe. I disagree. I believe it is music. There are so many different types of music that tickle everyone’s ear differently. Music is an expression of the people who are writing it. I have been a metal fan all my life but I don’t down anyone who is not. Like what you like without judgement.
it's very weird to see ppl hating on cate blanchett, she's just old and trying to understand. the monster truck comment maybe stems from the media bcs when i was young every scene from a tv show about monster trucks always has a heavy metal background music. i think that's why she acted that way.
As a fashionable girly girl who loves clothes, cute animals, and Barbie, I often get called a "closet rocker," but I'm very open about my love of hard rock and heavy metal. Go Margot!
I think my favorite part is that, instead of people getting mad about the criticism, a majority of the comments are just happy we have Margot Robbie in our community 👏
Just bumped into this video and your channel. Instant fan. Especially with the professionalism and overall composure u carry yourself with. It's refreshing from all the yelling and boisterous demeanor I'd see in many other reviews/critique channels. Subbed.
How dare she ask a question?? The nerve! The absolute worst part of the rock community is they think they ‘chose’ the best genre. You didn’t choose, neither did anyone else. You’re not cool because you acknowledged your taste. And no, she made zero connection between elitism and monster trucks. Well done on that monumental leap. Grow up.
Where did she defend Slipknot? She literally states more people approached her at that concert than anywhere else. She never defends anything she just tell people about how she was when she was “emo”
When she asked if she also liked monster trucks, it wasn't because she considered them trashy, it was because it was perceived to have a more masculine fanbase, much like heavy metal. About 75% of the fans are guys vs 25% girls. but go to a Goo Goo Dolls concert, and the numbers flip entirely. There are girls who love metal, but there's more male fans. She was digging, trying to find out if Margot was attracted to hobbies that usually appealed to boys.
I don't think she was necessarily trying to disrespect anyone. I honestly think it's just not a genre she has any connection to. She is just assuming that Heavy Metal and Monster Trucks go hand in hand.
From what I gather, the “monster trucks” comment is more or less her mocking Margot’s femininity because trucks and metal music is generally considered a masculine thing
Dear god… she never scrutinized anything. Monster trucks are just an extreme of something that already exists in a normal level and she made that comparison with music. That’s it.
Thankyou & appreciate your time to show , an honest, respectable Robbie reveal how ignorance of others, that if in a position of power or who have greatness attached from their success can believe, wrongly have knowledge or falsify facts on topics and give another's interest such stigmata is unfair, biased if not experienced yet manipulate others or damage such excellences for the wrong reasons! Another example of to gain, through the shame of one's expertise or appear of better stature against another! Robbie standing up being true, an Australian with heart who would stand up for another, no matter the calibre, but for truth. 🕊️
I didn't know a single actor or actress's name before this because I don't watch movies. But now I know Margot Robbie, and she's my favorite actor or actress because of this. What a chad. Putting up with being openly ridiculed by celebrities to defend Slipknot.
