Here is our tribute to one of our biggest heroes, and lifetime achievement award winner, Mari Boine. Performed live at Spellemannprisen and NRK1, february 25th. We are honored to be asked to do this.
You and Mari Boine have done to me what you both seem to be put on this Earth for. You made me interested to find out more about the Sámi culture and history. Cause tbh colorful clothes and reindeer was the only thing I knew about it. Music is universal though. And if it does something with your emotions, you keep coming back to it. Thank you for honoring your culture and also for opening the door for people who are not really familiar with it.
Ella Marie, you are no less than Mari Boine!! your band is wonderful and you are a gift sent to us all. I knew nothing about Sami and now I'm interested and I want to learn your language. keep up the good music and vibes! love from Israel!
Dear ISAK ,, what for a great honor for Mari Boine that her traditional vibes is living in the next generation. Higher is not possible in that way! You are so a beautiful fruit, growing up with powerful roots!
At once the song from Mari Boine goes directly to your heart . But THEN , the camera pans to Ms Boine , close to tears and fist in the air and I am moved beyond the Beyond . These are crazy times we are living through . Fight the power everyone and don't buy into the fear ! It is BECAUSE we are divine and powerful that "they" must create these distractions to cause division . We are winning ! That's why they are trying SO hard to put fear into us in order to control us . Takk Fyrir !
I just love the song and the performance. Actually it is an understatement to say I loved it, this performance just touched my soul. I can't express my dissatisfaction with the fact that this talented singer is so underrated, like come on, she deserves so much fame and love. Please support her everyone.
I do not know how I ended up here at RU-vid, but this its very wonderful! ❤ I wish i can that language, and understand that what she sing! Greetings form Germany :)
A beautiful performance story that touches the soul through and through - it is the call of freedom and courage that each of us has only been enslaved. It's time to wake up, it's time to be a free man!
No idea what the lyrics mean being from the UK but it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. If a song can do that in a language you don't understand that tells you how incredible it is.
oh my gosh how beautiful.... the join from Sameguten Ante followed me from my childhood , but learning about joik as adult is really a gift i appreciate beyond comprehension... wow...
The song/yoik was originally made as a soundtrack for the movie The Kautokeino Rebellion, which is about a real event in 1852, where the Sami in Kautokeino after a long period of oppression and exploitation, attacked representatives of the Norwegian state. Elle, who had a small child, a son, was punished with many years in prison. Two other rebels were punished with death, an event that has left a strong mark on Sami society for over a hundred years, and which led to them not daring to protest against the superior authority until 130 years later. From Mari Boines (original artist) official site: ELLE And so the spring river opened up again and so we let ourselves drift with the flood Finally, the night of ice had to give in My dearest son of the wind Surely I flew with the bluethroat (the bird of a thousand languages) Surely I danced with the northern light In the strongest of breaths, we exhaled as one My dearest son of the wind And so, the lips of the silenced ones burst out in a speech the stream of words started once again flowing over the frozen riverbanks as we found each other again My dearest son of the wind When you ́re walking alongside the herd when you ́re guarding your reindeer with their proud antlers The whole sky comes alive and starts moving My dearest son of the wind
