Maria Callas will forever be the high priestess of Opera whose place will never be surpassed by anyone. She is still compared to other singers without success. She will forever be a Callas that no one can replace. Nobody cant double Callas she said herself. Its still so thrue.
Maria Callas WAS Tosca. The others sang Tosca. She set the bar too high. There is Maria Callas and then the rest of the pack trying to catch her. They haven't managed it in over 50 years. Proof? We are still talking about Callas in 2021 and not the others! RIP La Divina.
No one and I mean No One has been related to this.. This is brilliant, magnificent, like it's everything anyone can think of attempting to this kind of singing.. Well my fav is Joan Sutherland but when it comes to Callas I don't compromise, but legend will always be Her, the Queen of Opera, Maria Callas..
I only wish Puccini had lived long enough to see what these two greats made of their roles. None better ever. Although I don't know why Gobbi was given a profile out of a Parisian puppet show. It is just distracting.
She has a powerful ally in Tito Gobbi, but oh my god! She doesn't relent for a second: even during the applause following her soliloquy she remains totally in character, intense, shattered, and in the depths of desperation!
The extraordinary success of Maria Meneghini Callas could appear, at first glance, to be one of the ... to read, and of whom--it is curious to note--only a small number has actually heard the voice which is at the root of this ...
For me, Gobbi invested too much into coming accross as a bully. I think smoothly deceptive is more appropriate. After all, he literally slips into Tosca's space and psyche in act 1, then, he builds toward his conquest through threat, barbarousness, and finally outright attempted rape in act 2.
D the Magneto Well think again. You have truly missed some of the best singing in the world and the best interpretation if you pass through without listening to Callas. There's a reason why all the female singers look and listen to her recordings because she is the standard that has yet to be surpassed. Once you hear her Lucia, Amina, Anna Bolena, Medea, Mimi, Tosca, Lady Macbeth, Aida, Norma, is there anyone else worthy to listen to? The answer to that question would be no!
Where did you get the idea that I passed without listening to those performances ? How could I have had an opnion about her, hadn't I listened to her performances ?
Well,Callas is Callas.I december Birgit Nilsson singing Viss d arte lying ön the floor.Singing superb without vibrato, like Tebaldi än with al beautiful high b and superb pianissimo. Some say Nilsson was too cold, she was not.Nilsson,Tebaldi were gloriuos Toscas, acting skilled opera sigers.Callas played her self.Nilsson show her round ,sexy boobs in the deep decollage.Nilsson had her own, real jewels in this role, not Swarowski.Nilsson and Tebaldi, huge voices without vibrato. No inte like them today.
